First of all, keep in mind that FE’s design still carries the “essence” of a high-end machine. With Note FE, you can choose familiar black or blue coral personality, eye catching. In the included accessories, noticeable Clear Cover covers help to protect the phone better. With a product for “fan”, it is reasonable for Samsung to offer accessories.
Good camera quality is also a noticeable point on the FE. It inherits the features of the Samsung series: fast shutter speed, high definition, bright and light colors, fluttering eyes. Note FE exhibits distinct advantages when shooting at night, in poorly lit environments. Night shots of this handset are comparable to the Sony Xperia XZ1 or HTC U11.
Users may find it unfortunate that Note FE is not equipped with a dual camera, support for portraits such as Note 8. However, this is not a significant shortcoming.
The FE’s display has good display quality, high contrast and deep black. At 5.7 inches and QHD resolution, the 518 ppi pixel density delivers crisp, high-definition images that look crisp under the sun. Wide viewing angle, high contrast, so the image is deeper and more impressive. Incorrect color rendering is often considered to be a weakness of the Super AMOLED screen, but on Note FE you can select the basic display mode for colors close to the sRGB standard.
The curved screen is a controversial detail. Some people like the effect on the curved screen edge, but some people do not like it because the picture is “flat” when looking straight. One of the big differences from Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is that Note FE does not support HDR displays, so it will not display HDR content on popular services like YouTube or Netflix.
Always-on display is very useful when allowing users to quickly capture the message and status of the machine. OLED technology is well suited to the black background of the Always-on Display and does not consume significant battery power.
Compared with the high-end models, this phone is less than the smooth playback of heavy games. For games like the Dead Trigger 2 or Warhammer 40K: Freeblade, the 2017s like the Note 8 or Xperia XZ1 easily reach the frame rate of nearly 60 fps, feeling the smoothness of the game. Note FE only reached about 45 fps in the Warhammer game, while playing the game is sometimes jerky. For Dead Trigger 2, which is a heavyweight graphics game, Note FE is well-suited for medium frame rates over 50 fps. With CrossFire: Legends, the results are similar.
Pin is probably the biggest limitation of Note FE. As the battery capacity is reduced by about 10% compared to Note 7, the battery life of Note FE is also a little bit. When used in practice, the machine usually uses about 14 to 16 hours, so that the battery is almost full (less than 15%) with the average intensity of use, the screen brightness is more than 2 hours. For the less-used Note FE battery is enough to use a day, but if you regularly play games or surf the 4G network, the battery will drown.
Pen S on Note FE owns much of the same features as Samsung Galaxy Note 8: writing on screen lock, live screen translation, screen capture or GIF creation, just lack of dynamic message and color. The pen supports up to 4096 different levels of power, the equivalent of Note 8 and helps you write more accurately.
In terms of software, Note FE has been upgraded to the Samsung Experience 7.1 version, with gestures and operations similar to the Note 8 or S8 series. The interface of the software is clear, easy to see and less color than before. Note FE also added Bixby and Samsung Pay virtual assistants, new technologies and services introduced by Samsung.
