Batman: Arkham Origins – After the success of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, Rocksteady “gave up” to Warner Bros. Games Montreal in the role of designing “catwalk” for the Batman.

But like Rocksteady in the early days with the Batman: Arkham Asylum project, gamer skepticism for Warner Bros Games Montreal is inevitable.

For a “fledgling” studio, creating a quality debut was not an easy task, but when assigned to design the next version of a huge monument it was like “a huge burden”.

So whether Warner Bros Games Montreal can overcome Rocksteady’s huge shadow?

Can Batman: Arkham Origins be on par with the previous two games?

WarnerGames Montreal’s first step is very wise not to continue the story of Batman: Arkham Asylum, but take the time when Batman “started the profession”.

Although new to the profession with a long period of tireless practice before, of course, he has made many “hot faces” in the criminals here.

Deciding not to let Batman get in the way again, Black Mask hired eight top assassins, Deathstroke, Deadshot, Bane, Copperhead, Electrocutioner, Firefly, Lady Shiva, and Killer Croc to defeat Batman in the night Christmas.

Batman on the one hand must search for the Black Mask to put an end to everything, on the other hand, have to deal with the assassins chasing him all night long.

The details in Batman: Arkham Origins take place at a moderate speed and always hide inside mysteries, dark conspiracies that must come when the Joker – Batman’s eternal enemy appears, everything seems to explode.

The knots and openings in the storyline combine very smoothly with the action scenes that make the player feel like he is watching a blockbuster movie about Batman on the silver screen and will attract you until the last minute.

In addition to the main details, the small details are also carefully invested and cleverly integrated into the main storyline such as the Joker’s life story, the rivalry relationship between Batman and James Gordon, or Harley Quin by The Joker leads the way to sin …

The little stories in a big story make for a very emotional Batman game!

Uses the Unreal 3 engine like previous versions, Warner Bros Games Montreal has added the already very successful graphics of the previous two versions with lots of effects, modern technology that makes Batman: Arkham Origins one of the best games using this almost 10-year-old engine.

And surprisingly, the configuration that the game requires is not high and works stably, very rarely the frame drops.

Gotham City in Batman: Arkham Origins has been expanded to a massive nearly double that of Batman: Arkham City but still retains a surprising level of detail.

The scene of Gotham on Christmas Eve exudes a cold and full of danger, the small areas in the game are also carefully designed by the developer.

The appearance of the characters in the game is carefully cared for, Batman in Batman: Arkham Origins is completely dressed in armor, not a tight suit like the previous two versions, villains like Deathstroke, Joker, Bane, Copperhead … although changed compared to the original, but also made many impressions.

Along with the beautiful image, the sound is also “top”, although the voices for Batman and Joker are no longer a pair of identical cards Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, Warner Bros Games Montreal has chosen another couple equally excellent that is Roger Craig Smith and Troy Baker.

Both of them conveyed the souls of two great figures in the entertainment industry.

The other actors have also done their jobs very well.

After spending about 15 hours of gameplay to complete the main storyline, you will have to spend a lot more time if you want to explore 100% of the game.

Most of the emissions come from the “Most Wanted” list, including the faces of criminals like Mad Hatter, Penguin … all contain their own stories for you to understand more about the character world surrounding Batman.

Riddler does not appear in Batman: Arkham Origins and is replaced by Enigma (which was the predecessor of Riddler), so now the Enigma Data Pack replaces the Riddler Trophy, which is scattered throughout Gotham city and you take a long time to collect all of them.

Besides, the challenges in Batman: Arkham Origins will also hold you back for quite a long time.

Changing the image of Batman full of experience in the previous two versions with a … impatient and thoughtful Batman is the right decision, but the way of transmission has not satisfied players.

The young Batman is still too experienced in each action, the fighting screen still shows the toughness, the strength that he could not achieve at the time of “entering the profession”.

It took until the end of the game to see a little bit of difficulty the enemy was creating for him.

One thing that I regret in this Batman: Arkham Origins: you will only clash with 6 assassins, the other 2 for some reason are “pushed” to the list of “Most Wanted” and the clash with them was also extremely bland, leaving no impression!

Batman: Arkham Origins is the first version of the Batman Arkham line that owns multiplayer and is made separately by Splash Damage, once famously outsourcing multiplayer for famous games such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Doom 3, and its own game: Brink.

In this game, players will be divided into two sides fighting each other under a third-person perspective, one side is led by Bane, the other is directed by Joker, Batman will together with Robin form a neutral faction stealth combat.

If Batman and Robin are just silently, then Bane and Joker seem to be the focus of the battle, Bane possesses absolute strength compared to the rest, while the Joker uses a pistol with fire.

Batman and Robin just need a few shots of the gang to “die”, let alone clash with the two leading terrorists.

This makes multiplayer too unbalanced.

Although done by a private studio, the combat system has a lot of problems from poor hiding, too rough movements, or too rigid gun mechanisms.

Warner Bros The Montreal Games did not dare to take the risk, so they “immobilized” the gameplay from the previous two versions into Batman: Arkham Origins, so almost nothing has changed in the game’s gameplay from direct action or sneak. While the already-branded “Free-flow” combat system still retains its appeal, gamers still need something new rather than just adding… two new weapons.

Even the upgrade system for Batman is only clear in the interface, the rest is almost 80% similar.

The idea of bringing in the cases will make Batman: Arkham Origins more attractive, but unfortunately they pass quickly and too linearly.

To find solutions to the cases, Batman is provided with the Detective Vision system that allows him to simulate the whole scene and reconstruct it in order.

However, it would be a lot better if the company developed the player to answer the question, not for Batman to always make suggestions for himself and then answer the questions he asked himself.

If so, what else is there for players to brainstorm?

The largest weak point that Batman: Arkham Origins encounters is the city in the game, Gotham is large, but without any shadow of the people!

In Batman Arkham City, Gotham city is isolated from outside areas to “confine” criminals so people are evacuated, this makes sense.

And in this Batman: Arkham Origins, when he couldn’t resort to that scenario again, Gotham also loses the vitality needed to make the game more alive.

Besides, Batman: Arkham Origins also encountered many bugs that affect the game experience, they appear on missions, or while traveling in the city.

Typically breaking into a tower during Penguin mission, Batman can’t… crawl into the ventilation pipe even though it’s clinging to the pipe wall!
