The opportunity for sound enthusiasts to own a Chord Electronics music player is suddenly becoming more feasible.

England is a country with a long-standing hi-end audio industry, which has produced many legendary sound brands such as Leak, Quad, Tannoy … In the last few decades, hi-end UK has exported. Nowadays, the young producers own the technology as well as the master production philosophy – including Chord Electronics with sophisticated equipment, creativity, high level of processing and excellent sound quality.

Chord Electronics has grown steadily over the past three decades to become one of the world’s leading audio brands. Over time, the company has continued to expand its reach with a wide range of consumer segments, from “heavy” audiophiles, hi-end headphones, PC / Desktop Audio users and especially with the DAC / Mobile AMP.

Integrating modern electronic technologies with sophisticated artwork, Chord Electronics’ “chintz” aluminum ingots such as 2Qute, Hugo TT and Dave DAC have become the dream of so many people – perhaps because of the level “Heavenly” price: Hugo TT – £ 2,995 or Dave DAC – £ 7,995.

So, when Chord Mojo was released for just £ 399, the chance for me and most of my audio enthusiasts to own a high-end music player branded Chord Electronics suddenly become more feasible than ever.

Digital:

Output power: 600 ohms 35mW or 8 ohms 720mW @ 1kHz

Output impedance: 0.075 ohms

Dynamic Range: 125dB

THD @ 3v – 0.00017%

On the side are three digital USB ports, Coaxial coaxial and Optical optical ports. The machine will automatically identify the connection port, in order of preference: microUSB -> coaxial -> optical port to simplify user manipulation. As such, Mojo will easily connect to computers, smartphones (Android via OTG cable, iOS via Apple Camera Connection Kit cable) to the popular hi-end DAP.

One of Chord’s inventions is the three glass balls, which are three unique controls: the power button, volume up / down. Interestingly, when turned on, these three marbles also light up beautifully: the source button cum always the source of sampling (sample frequencies), the two buttons increase / decrease the volume also change color when adjusting – The unique and extremely sophisticated Chord Electronics.

No matter what port the user is using, Mojo is capable of handling PCM digital music formats from 16-bit / 44.1kHz up to 32-bit / 768kHz as well as DSD64, DSD128 and DSD256. Numbers are quite impressive. This high-end DAC / AMP player can play all PCM, WAV, AAC formats; AIFF, MP3 and FLAC are popular nowadays

The accessory is just a very short microUSB cable. Maybe Chord wants to box as compact as possible and microUSB cable in the market too cheap. However, in my opinion, it would be better if Mojo was given a scratch-resistant leather case – beautiful and fashionable.

In charging mode or when in operation, Mojo tends to generate quite warm heat. Therefore, Chord recommends users not to recharge just in use, although the device has built-in circuit to automatically shutdown when overheating. In terms of battery life, Mojo can last from 6 to 8 hours of continuous operation, with a full charge of 4 hours – just enough for a day of usage.

Inside the Chord Mojo is a Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA processor that is refined by Chord Electronics engineers to optimize the sound, rather than using existing DACs such as iBasso, FiiO or Aune. That alone is enough for users to believe in the power, Mojo’s ability to handle sound when placed next to competitors in the same segment.

Connecting to the source is also easy, Windows users will need to download & install drivers on its Web site, Macs. For iOS smartphones, you need to buy additional Apple Camera Connection Kit or LOD cable like Fiio L19 and the same is USB OTG cable (with Android devices).

With an output impedance of 75mΩ, Chord is confident that their device will pull all headsets with impedance from 4Ω to 800Ω through both standard 3.5mm headphone jacks. In fact, Mojo perfectly treat hardcore midrange headphones like the HD600, HD650, DT770, DT880, … But it will be too much for Mojo to shine with HD800: still enough to pull out The sound, detail as well as sound are narrowed to a certain extent – I did not expect anything more in a portable DAC / AMP like this.

Smooth, smooth, good detail, smooth and rich music – similar to the Hugo – one of the best portable DACs and amplifiers. Mojo’s bass was not very impressive, it was not too much to play EDM, Dance was definitely decisive, diffused, not tailed, clumped and especially very clear.

The midrange and treble strips are not too fancy or abnormally inflated, all for the purpose of reproducing the most realistic and detailed sound possible. The initial feeling with Mojo will not make you dizzy, but the more you listen, the rustic, close, natural that Chord brings will make audiophile ears completely conquered. To be fair, Mojo’s vocal field is not really immense, despite the ability to separate layers of instruments, recreate theatrical space and is very good and clear.

It is also unforgettable to coordinate with IEM – the most important function of a “Moblie Joy” device. With no background noise, no hiss, Mojo is not a bad choice for Fities 335 or Shure 545 – ultra sensitive hiss. Finally, with line-level power up to 3V and master audio processing capabilities, Mojo can radically shine with the “location” of a Desktop DAC on your desktop.

Please talk about whether Mojo is good or bad, a high-end brand such as Chord Electronics introduces a DAC decoder and smartphone amplifier at a “cheap” price. Owning a sophisticated, creative, unique design, high level of processing and sound quality – Mojo deserves the perfect choice for those who want to enjoy mobile music, anytime, anywhere.
