DJI Osmo Mobile 3 is a complete makeover compared to the previous 2 sessions. The more compact design and the axes on this version 3 have been renewed by the manufacturer. In previous versions, the Pan, Roll and Till axes were located at 3 points in the space, making the gimbal both cumbersome.
The new design puts these axes on the same plane, making the gimbal much more compact. Not only that, DJI also arranged a coupling on the Pan axis so the gimbal can be folded down, stuffed easily into a pocket or a backpack, very convenient when moving. This folding design allows users to no longer have to carry large and bulky gimbal protective boxes as before, while minimizing occupied area.
The Roll Axis motor on this 3rd version is integrated directly into the phone holder by DJI. Thus, users can rotate the phone vertically or horizontally without having to remove the phone as before. Another worthwhile point is that plugging the charging cable or attaching a mic to the lower edge of the phone is much easier because it is no longer covered by the gimbal.
The control buttons remain the same as on previous versions, including the joystick, rotary button, power button, zoom button and mode button at the back. The buttons are placed on a 45-degree angled surface, which is equivalent to the 45-degree angle that the thumb creates when we hold the gimbal. On the Osmo Mobile 3 version, DJI listened to the user and returned to the USB Type A port to conveniently plug in the phone while recording or even take the gimbal as a backup battery. In addition, the charging port for the gimbal has also been upgraded to Type C plug standard. This change is very necessary and timely because the Type C standard has confirmed its advantages due to convenient plugging.
Gimbal’s grip part is where the battery and control circuit board are located. The grip is significantly smaller than the Osmo Mobile 2, but the battery claims it can be up to 15 hours in a row. During practical use, with a trip lasting 3 days, I only need one charge to be able to use Osmo Mobile 3 throughout the journey.
According to the manufacturer, this gimbal uses 2 18650 type battery cells with a total capacity of 2450mAh. It takes 2.5 hours to fully charge with a 10W charger.

Despite the smaller and more compact design, the features on Osmo Mobile 3 are still fully inherited from previous generations. You will have a button to switch between Story, Sport, Time Lapse and Slow Motion modes; zoom in / out button, lock / unlock rotation and flip back and forth between selfie mode or normal movie recording.

Due to the change in shaft design, the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 can be used quickly without having to adjust the Roll axis as on previous versions. DJI Mimo software has a beautiful interface and is easy to use, there are also many Presets for you to choose from, creating creative shots. In addition, this software also supports you to edit videos and export live videos very conveniently. Unfortunately, Mimo does not allow live streaming to familiar platforms like Facebook or YouTube. Osmo Mobile 3 is equipped with Blutooth 5.0 connection so the operation with DJI Mimo software is completely stable and smooth.
The ActiveTrack 3.0 feature works as expected. Tracking objects accurately. This is a very useful feature if you are a vlogger but still want to take advantage of the quality of the rear camera on your phone instead of using the front camera.
