Advanced design

The Fujifilm X-T2’s design inherits a lot from Fujifilm X-T1. The body is designed in SLR style with raised jaws and viewfinder located in the middle center above, coaxial to the lens. Compared with the previous generation, the X-T2 is a bit heavier, with a specific dimension of 132.5 x 91.8 x 49.2mm. The main body material is magnesium alloy. The finish is very high quality, most surfaces are treated with anti-slippery grit. Connectors and removable storage compartments are equipped with a rubber seal that makes the machine resistant to adverse weather conditions.

The front of the X-T2 is almost unchanged compared to the X-T1, keypad position, snapping mode, focus-assist lamp … remain the same. The grip is no bigger than negligible. The back of the machine is home to a whole host of new features, including a joystick to quickly select the focus point, and the screen can be flipped horizontally or vertically. The top of the machine is still a collection of rifles and swivels to quickly adjust parameters such as shooting speed, ISO, bright compensation, shooting programs, metering mode … Fujifilm equipped with mechanisms to wear. To lock the rotation (shooting speed, ISO) and open them by pressing the center button. The bottom of the machine has a battery compartment, a tripod nut and contacts for connection to the add-on grip. When installing the grip, users do not need to remove the battery pack already in place. The two sides are the connectors and two memory card slots inside the tight-fitting lid.

Powerful configuration

The X-T2 is equipped with a 24.3MP APS-C sensor. This sensor integrates X-Trans III proprietary technology, combined with the X-Processor Pro image processor. The sensitivity range of the machine is 200-12800 (in the extended mode 100-51200). 325-point AF system with the fastest exposure time of 1 / 32,000s (electronic shutter) or 1 / 8,000s (mechanical shutter). Continuous shooting speed of 14 frames per second.

When controlling the electronic shutter exposure, the X-T2 offers silent options, which means that the camera can capture without noise, which is useful in special photographic contexts.

The X-T2’s (EVF) viewfinder has a resolution of 2.36 million colors, a 0.77x magnification, 100% frame coverage, and a 100fps refresh rate in particular. This is a very well structured EVF with great size, high detail, accurate color and almost no latency. The rubber cushion is very smooth, easy to light, easy to clean design. The screen of the machine is 3 inches in resolution of 1.62 million colors, allowing to flip back, face up and open to serve landscape shooting situations.

Experience shows that the X-T2 is a very powerful machine. The biggest weakness on the predecessors is that the slower shutter speed has been thoroughly overcome, even better than expected. The camera is very fast and offers a variety of modes. When focusing continuously, users can customize the focus method through specific illustrative situations. With instant focus, the system is sensitive to moving subjects, fast and accurate even when the subject skimmed through the frame. The focus area can be flexibly changed with the joystick, increasing or decreasing the width by rotating the gear. Taking the time to thoroughly explore the X-T2’s focus system and master it, the photographer will certainly not be bored of any genre, from sports to wildlife, X-T2 can handle good.

Generally machine operation with X-T2 is very fast. Most of the buttons on the X-T2 are customizable, giving them the functionality they want, instead of having the default effects pre-installed.

The most important is still the image quality. Sensors and processors outperform the previous X-series. The X-T2 image is rich in detail, light and color reproduced well, the image still has a greenish, deep, and emotional feel to it. The X-T2 has 15 color-coded color profiles, including the all-new Acros for high-definition black and white. The ability to handle noise and ripples (moiré) is also commendable. High ISO images are easy to see and colors are not blocked. The X-Processor Pro processor worked well. Image processing speed is much faster than X-T1. Increasing the amount of memory and compute power has greatly improved latency.

Fujifilm also added to X-T2 the ability to control Grain Effect. Previously, the level of noise was fixed by each color profile, but now X-T2 users can add or subtract nostalgic or intentional artistic creations.

X-T2’s video capabilities are also focused. The camera supports the highest quality video at ultra-high resolution (4K) with a maximum frame rate of approximately 30 fps. Each continuous burst in 4K mode should last only 10 minutes, if longer than the machine will be overheated. One thing in particular is that the color profiles of the film simulator are also used when shooting video, which is really helpful when it comes to helping users make simple movies with their favorite shades like Chrome Classic or Velvia. However, on the X-T2 experience here has not seen the appearance of “log gamma” feature to record the wide contrast range, although Fuji has introduced X-T2 will have F-Log. The hardware of the machine is sufficient to support this feature, so hopefully F-Log will appear in the forthcoming firmware update. With Fuji’s upgrades, the X-T2 is one of the best mirrorless camcorders today.

Powerful, but there are some weaknesses on X-T2. The addition of new features has made the menu complicated. The focus setting options are quite messy, some basic functions but hidden deep … Compared to the old menu on the X-series system. It is advisable for anyone who buys X-T2 to read this manual to understand how to install the X-T2. Also, perhaps because X-T2 has to shoulder so many powerful processing features, the battery life is short. If you plan to use X-T2 for serious work, then buy extra HP and battery backup. Also note that the X-T2 must be used with the correct battery type NP-W126S. Although it is possible to replace the battery with old X-series machines, the X-T2 will often overheat when operating.

Another interesting detail is the X-T2 is equipped with two SD memory card slots. The camera offers a variety of storage options: one for saving a photo card, one for JPEG and the other for RAW, parallel or standalone recording on each card. SD card slot, X-T2 is the position of a professional camera.

Besides, the X-T2 also supports connecting to smart mobile devices via Wi-Fi. Wireless features include: Geotagging, viewing and transferring images, taking pictures remotely, and exporting images to the Instax printer.
