DESIGN AND FINISHING:

GK10 has a unique heart-shaped design, along with an IEM face with an eye-catching abstract effect. However, to get this beauty, this product has to trade off the level of perfection – the shell is made of glossy plastic, quite “creaky”, and does not bring confidence to the user. The size of the GK10 is quite large, it may not fit some of you who have small ears or cause discomfort when wearing because, after a long time of wearing, the headset will gradually slip off. This headset is not very soundproof, especially in noisy environments like outdoors.

SOUND QUALITY:

This product review is based on the manufacturer’s available accessories, earplugs: Final E size L, original manufacturer’s earplugs; Dac: ikko Zerda ITM01, Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen; Amp: Samsung Galaxy Note 10+; Spotify and FLAC files.

Before going into the detailed review of the sound quality of Geek Wold GK10, there is a small note that this is an “easy but difficult” headphone model with low impedance (8 ohms) and high sensitivity (106dB).

The overall sound quality of Geek Wold GK10 is warm

Bass range:

The bass range on the GK10 is quite warm and rich, especially in the mid-bass range, very suitable for those who listen to pop, ballad music… However, the sub-bass part is not deep enough, and the frequency range is not pulled down so it cannot reproduce the lowest octave and vibration for music genres such as rock, electronic music, and hip-hop… The warmth and average response speed of this mid-bass range make the overall bass range of the GK10 somewhat knit together, unbalanced, not clean, and losing a bit of detail.

Mid-tone

The mid-bass range blends into the mid-range quite a lot, so the vocals of the singer and the instruments feel thin, dry, lacking in weight, and not clear, especially the deep voices of most male singers. In return, the high mid-range on the GK10 is reproduced quite well, with many details, without feeling stressed, tired, and jarred when listening for a long time.

Treble

The handling of the high treble range of the two piezoelectric drivers is good – bright but not much emphasis on words pronounced in the form of ‘s’, ‘ch’, and ‘t’; The response speed is very fast, the frequency range is extended much to help the GK10 get airy. In contrast, in the low treble range by the BA driver “in charge”, although the number in this range is evenly distributed, the quality is somewhat incoherent due to the slower response speed than the two piezoelectric drivers, creating a sense of rough for percussion instruments such as gongs, drums, etc.

Retrieve audio details:

The detailed reproduction of the GK10 is not too impressive due to its unusual way of customizing the sound quality, although this product is equipped with two unique piezoelectric drivers that no other company can do in the low-cost segment.

Soundstage and imaging:

The soundstage of the GK10 can be summed up as wide in width but not wide in depth. Thanks in part to 2 piezoelectric drivers, the soundstage is quite airy. However, because of the slow response speed of 2 dynamic drivers, 1 BA driver, and a large number of mid-bass bands, the image is narrowed, and the instrument is not separated layer by layer, woven together on the multi number of music genres.

Timbre:

With the choice of driver type for this tribrid configuration, Geek Wold had to trade for a non-seamless timbre for the GK10, partly due to the large difference between the response speed of the piezoelectric driver and the other two types of drivers. This configuration is partly due to the lack of balance in the overall sound quality.

COMPARISON SECTION

With Final Audio E3000:

In terms of sound quality, the E3000 and GK10 have quite similar directions such as the warm mid-bass range, and the sub-bass part is “slipped” quite clearly. The GK10 reproduces the overall treble range better than the E3000 thanks to the fast response speed from the piezoelectric driver. However, technically, the GK10 is somewhat inferior to the E3000: the soundstage of the GK10 is narrower, the instrument is not clearly separated and often woven together, the way to retrieve sound details is not good, and the image is less neutral. These problems are all the opposite for the E3000.

With Moondrop SSP:

With a price difference of only $5, these two models of headphones have their highlights and exchange advantages and disadvantages that the opponent does not have such as the high mid-range and low treble range of the very hot SSP compared to the GK10 for some users, or the mid-bass range is closer to neutral on the SSP than the GK10, or the technicality of the SSP is slightly better thanks to the relatively balanced sound quality and the use dynamic drivers effectively…. However, to be able to claim a higher position than competitors in its price range, SSP is finished with very good alloy material, its compact body is minimalist, suitable for more objects, and not more difficult to pull than GK10.

SUMMARY

Equipping the headset with 3 types of drivers is not always the best solution, especially in the low-cost segment. But with the heart-shaped design shape, attractive abstract color IEM face, and this unique driver configuration, the GK10 is an interesting headset model.
