With a price of $40-140 cheaper than other versions, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 Windforce can be a bit less eye-catching at first when you are looking to buy an RTX 2070 graphics card. Not aiming to be beautiful. The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 Windforce aims to bring performance and power to you at the best possible price.

The big draw to Nvidia’s RTX GPUs is that they include discrete RT and tensor core hardware that deliver significantly enhanced performance in ray-tracing and machine learning-enhanced intensive tasks.) in real-time, as Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS).

Gigabyte gave the RTX 2070 Windforce a custom cooling solution that lives up to its name despite the very attractive price tag. The propeller is made of plastic and feels fragile when applied; it is much more fragile than the Nvidia Founders Edition and EVGA RTX 2070 XC. More specifically, these propellers will slow down when you’re not playing games or not “waste” your GPU. That is a pretty cool feature that Founders Edition lacks because running more quietly is always preferable.

A full-length heatsink sits below the guard plate, enhanced by a pair of synthetic copper heat pipes that make direct contact with the GPU for better heat transfer. Below that, a large metal plate helps transfer heat away from the GPU and MOSFET memory areas, and finally, a metal backplate with Gigabyte’s embossed logo. Next to the GPU, you will also see the Gigabyte logo with RGB LEDs, and you can customize the colors through the Aorus Engine software.

Advantages:

– Good performance with 1440p and 4K (if not very demanding)

Overclocking, Temperature, Power and Fire Strike Tests

I also tested the Gigabyte RTX 2070 Windforce using 3DMark’s Fire Strike engine with Fire Strike running at 1080p, Fire Strike Extreme running at 1440p, and Fire Strike Ultra running at 4K. They all render the same scene but with more graphics effects as you go up to Ultra, so Extreme, and Ultra make the GPU work even more.

All three versions of the RTX 2070 GPU deliver similar results. The Founders Edition falls behind Gigabyte Windforce slightly in raw GPU scores despite being slightly factory overclocked by Nvidia, possibly due to suboptimal cooling resulting in a slight effect on the results.

The most demanding performance consumption test was repeated by the F1 2018 game, the first part of the race where all cars were on-screen simultaneously.

Test the heat by leaving the EVGA monitoring tool from the Precision X1 open during the five-lap F1 2018 power consumption test, noting the highest maximum temperature measured.

Windforce with three custom fans on the Gigabyte card runs slightly cooler than the dual fans of the Founders Edition card, although not as cool as the ICX2 cooling inside the EVGA RTX 2070 XC. All three provide similar noise levels, not too loud and annoying, but you will still know the card is running when you play games. However, the RTX 2070 Windforce has a slight advantage when you are not playing games; the fan will not spin, which is quieter than the other two versions.

All three versions can be overclocked easily with Nvidia’s automatic overclocking tool, the Nvidia Scanner API. Despite the basic specs and low price tag compared to the other two versions, Gigabyte still allows you to increase the power limit of this card. Some manufacturers will let you overclock up to 114% performance; EVGA alone allows you to push the RTX 2070 XC up to 130%.

Almost no difference with the three versions, Gigabyte Windforce’s score of +202 leads to a real-world boost clock of 1,753 MHz, base spec of 1,620 MHz. With Nvidia’s GPU enhancement technology, the RTX 2070 card will surpass the benchmark, and all three versions can achieve 2.0 MHz.

For a good price, you’ll still get the same power as the EVGA XC and Nvidia Founder Edition versions despite the basic specs.
