GPD Win 5.5 is a Windows-based PC (UMPC) or a Windows gaming machine with a dedicated gaming key system and an integrated joystick. It is well done and offers a very enjoyable user experience.

GPD – GamePad Digital is a computer brand originated in Shanghai, China and it has quite a lot of similar models like this Win 5.5, small machine and integrated game button separately. Some of its products have also been raised on sites such as Kickstarter or Indiegogo.

Back in the Win 5.5, this machine has a clamshell design, size 15.5 x 9.7 x 2.35 cm and when you first hold it feels like an O2 Xda Exec phone in the past. The lid is made of metal, the body is made of hard plastic.

A Win 5.5 compatible desktop computer with all necessary connectivity ports at the rear, such as USB 3.0 (USB-A), microSD card reader, mini HDMI, 3.5 mm audio jack and USB-C concurrently Charging function – use with 5V – 2.5 A removable charger and cable for fast charging. The buttons L1, L2, R1, R2 are also integrated at the rear edge similar to the layout on the gaming console. These keys use the Omron switch, which makes the mouse switch very popular in Japan.

The bottom of the machine has a fan adjustment button, it is located in a very accessible position and can be quickly adjusted between 3 modes including on, medium fan and maximum fan. Inside is a 5.5 “multi-touch screen, IPS panel with HD resolution (1280 x 720 px). With this resolution on a 5.5” screen, it’s hard to see more pixels, so the image is sharper. Right below the screen is a button-operated system. The first is a dedicated gaming keypad with D-Pad, two joysticks and a familiar ABXY 4-button cluster. Here we have a switch that switches the input mode of this gaming key system including Dinput, Mouse and Xinput. In Mouse mode, the joystick on the right allows for cursor control. Unfortunately, these two joysticks do not support down, just rotate the navigation so when you want to select something on the screen, you have to press L3 and R3 on the keyboard below.

Speaking to the keyboard, Win 5.5 has a very small keyboard but enough for us to input. We can only use two thumbs for input, the keys have a convex design that is quite easy to press and it has the full function keys similar to a regular laptop.

In addition to the main system, the keyboard also has extra keys to increase the volume, the power button and the Xbox but I do not know how to use this key.
