amazon HONOR BAND 5 reviews
Masculine design, comfortable wearing, beautiful screen
The Honor Band 5 has a 0.95-inch AMOLED screen with 120 x 240 pixels resolution, similar to the Mi Band 4. The screen displays a very prominent color and deep black, to say it is as good as the current smartwatches. The screen has a high maximum brightness; the display information is visible even when used in the sun.
The screen of the Honor Band 5 has a rectangular shape and a flat surface, unlike the Mi Band 4’s screen has a more ellipse and curved screen border. The two devices are about the same size and weight, about 22g (excluding the strap). However, the Honor Band 5 attaches to the core with a plastic pin, not hugging the core like Mi Band 4, so it looks more slender and tidy. In addition, the Honor core is slightly curved, so it feels a bit more fit than Xiaomi.
Band 5’s strap is made of TPU plastic, has a nice diagonal pattern, and uses a traditional piercing style. The traditional way of wearing this is easier to wear than the Mi Band 4’s wire-hiding type, but it is inconvenient to be entangled in sports activities.
The Band 5’s screen displays information on time, steps, heart rate, sleep, fitness types, and incoming messages. The screen interface is simple, the operation is quite smooth, and it can change the watch face right on the bracelet without entering the application like other bracelets. You only need to hold down the watch face for a while to switch between 8 different watch faces. However, beyond these eight watch faces, users cannot customize or add or remove. In this regard, the Mi Band 4 is much more diverse when it comes to 70 dials available for change, allowing for comfortable customization to create unique watch faces.
Another point to mention in the design of the Band 5 is water resistance to 5 ATM standards (water-resistant to a depth of 50 meters), which can be worn when swimming or bathing.
Count steps more standard Mi Band 4, tracking sleep details
Due to the 6-axis motion sensor, Honor Band 5 can track step count, distance and estimate calories consumed.
From the bracelet’s screen, you can see the number of steps and details such as calories consumed, distance, and walking time. In particular, you can also see the number of times the sports alert wear band. Mobility alerts are periods of inactivity, like sitting in one place for too long.
In terms of accuracy, the Honor Band 5 counts steps fairly well. In particular, this bracelet does not count when we sit on a motorbike or car.
That is the point where we think Band 5 is better than Mi Band 4. The Mi Band 4 still gets a lot of mistaken steps when it comes to riding a motorbike. Specifically, when riding a motorbike about 10 km and not walking, Mi Band 4 still counts about 400 steps, while Band 5 does not count steps in this period.
Along with the step count, the Band 5 tracks sleep based on analyzing data from the accelerometer and heart rate sensor. That is done automatically by the bracelet in the same way as a step is counted. Of course, to monitor sleep, you need to wear it when you go to bed. The strap is light, soft, so you can wear it comfortably without causing it to get in the way. However, unlike step counting data, the band only displays the amount of time you spend the night. If you want to find out more information about sleep, you must use the Huawei Health app.
Along with information about sleep time, the Huawei Health app also scores sleep quality and provides an in-depth analysis of sleep. You can see how much time you spend deep sleep, napping, and dreaming (REM), as well as the number of times you wake up during sleep. In addition, the Huawei Health app has basic advice on exercise, diet, and rest to improve sleep quality.
Monitor 10 types of movement, measure heart rate and blood oxygen level
Band 5 has built-in tracking of 10 indoor and outdoor activities, compared to only six types of activities of Mi Band 4.
Band 5 can track tracks that include running outdoors, running indoors, walking outdoors, walking indoors, biking outdoors, cycling on the bike, free exercise, swimming, rowing machine, and climbing machine. However, note that the band does not automatically recognize the type of movement, so you need to turn it on manually when starting the workout.
Band 5 does not have GPS, so you need to get the GPS from the smartphone connected to the band to track and record outdoor motoring activities such as walking, jogging, or cycling. The combination of GPS from the phone, the band, and the Huawei Health app provides a lot of information about the types of movement being tracked. For example, with the type of outdoor running, you have the running time, the distance of the running distance, the average speed (pace), calories consumed, heart rate chart during running, the number of steps/minute, average stride length.
Like outdoor walking, you will also have quite a lot of relevant information: running distance, running time, average speed, calories consumed, heart rate chart (average heart rate, max heart rate), number of steps/minute, stride length.
By combining the GPS from the phone, the data obtained becomes more reliable than relying solely on the motion sensors of the bracelet.
Honor Band 5 has a heart rate sensor. On the bracelet, you can press the heart rate measurement at any time to know the heart rate at the time of measurement. On the Huawei Health app, you can turn on the option to have the bracelet monitor your heart rate continuously in real-time (note the battery consumption) or monitor your heart rate 24/7 with smart mode (less waste battery).
In addition to providing a daily heart rate chart, Band 5 also has alerts for users when the heart rate rises. The heart rate data obtained from Band 5 is quite close to the Mi Band 4 and Apple Watch Series 4. The heart rate measurements between these three devices are usually only 3-5 beats/minute.
The Honor Band 5 bracelet also has a SpO2 sensor to monitor blood oxygen levels, a rare feature on cheap bracelets. The SpO2 sensor allows the bracelet to detect oxygen levels in the blood to give warnings, useful for adventure activities such as hiking or people suffering from oxygen-related illnesses.
This bracelet also integrates quite a lot of features similar to smartwatches. You can view the weather information and read notifications from applications connected to your phone. Good display quality makes it easy to read the information on the bracelet display despite the small screen size.
Also, in the “More” section on Band 5, there are other features such as timer, stopwatch, phone finder (phone will play sound). A pity that this bracelet does not currently have music control features like Mi Band 4.
The Huawei Health app currently supports iOS, and Android devices, have a beautiful, intuitive interface, and provides many details that aren’t present on the bracelet’s screen. However, the software has a drawback: it is not synchronized with the account loop like the Samsung and Mi Band bracelets. The Health app itself has a pedometer that works in tandem with the bracelet. So the step count data on the app and the band will be different, easily confusing. Asynchronous accounts will also lead to another problem: the old data will be lost when you switch to another phone.

The battery is comfortable to use for a week, 1 hour full charge
Band 5 has a 100 mAh battery, smaller than the Mi Band 4 with a 135 mAh battery. In actual use, the Band 5 lasts about 8 days of continuous use, with daily intensity walking and running for about 30 minutes, receiving notifications from the Gmail, messaging, Facebook and Messenger applications. Thus, if compared with the Mi Band 4, this bracelet has a few days less battery life.
However, the Band 5 is better than the Mi Band 4 at charging time. The bracelet can be fully charged in about 1 hour via laptop USB port, while Mi Band 4 takes up to 2 hours.
Summary
Honor Band 5 is clearly a formidable competitor of Xiaomi Mi Band 4. Compared to competitors, the Band 5 has the advantage of a slimmer design, a more comfortable grip, a more accurate step count, a sleep meter that provides more data, more tracking of a variety of movements, and a charging time twice as fast.
In addition, the upcoming Honor bracelet also has a blood oxygen sensor, which is not available on the Mi Band 4. However, the Mi Band 4 also has the advantage of battery life, a variety of watch faces, software that syncs with the account loop is more convenient and especially highly customizable, the mod community is large and allows for a lot of extra unique features.
