Design

As a hybrid between tablet and laptop, the HP Elite X2 1012 G1 has a small bunker design compared to a regular 12-inch tablet, but small, lightweight and unique in the role of a laptop.

The G1 has a solid, chic, and stylized metal frame styled in some pretty eye-catching locations. It’s the black back ribbon band – where the rear camera is located, or the diamond cutter that runs around the body looks quite stylish and sophisticated. The highlight of the G1 is a lightweight base with openings that are reasonably arranged with soft cuts.

Beside the stand, there is a small detail but different from the usual form of a fingerprint reader – a module found on high-end laptops from HP. This tool helps increase the security of the machine and is a good match for the business.

G1 is not equipped with multiple ports. The right side of the machine has a 3.5mm headphone socket, USB 3.0 port, memory card slot, and Type-C charging port. With a stylus like a pen, Active Pen gives users quick notes (press the pen button to open the OneNote application quickly), draws or edits images conveniently. In particular, with the Microsoft Edge browser built on Windows 10, the Active Pen is really useful and makes the G1 more versatile. HP attaches the strap and taps on the cover for the user to attach the stylus to the machine. There are also up to 4 pen heads for replacement suitable for different purposes of writing and drawing.

The G1 is equipped with a 12-inch touch screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,280 pixels and a pixel density of 192 PPI providing sharp and detailed images, true color, and high contrast. The high-brightness screen of up to 340 nit combines the anti-glare layer on the surface to allow the G1 to display good content outdoors (still a little glossy).

For the needs of surfing the web, watching movies, or processing graphics, G1’s visibility is good. However, if the screen resolution is slightly higher (2,736 x 1,824 pixels like the Microsoft Surface Pro 4), G1 will display more perfectly. The G1 is equipped with a touch-sensitive chipset for a high-speed response, smoothly with a hand or pen.

The G1 is equipped with an Intel Core i5-55YYY Skylake processor, HD Graphics 515 graphics card, 8GB LPDDR3 RAM, 256GB Samsung M.2 SSD, and Windows 10 licensed. The PCMark 8 Battery Test rated G1 has 5 hours of video playback (brightness, 50% volume) on battery life. Elite X2 can operate continuously for nearly 6 hours with screen brightness below 50%. A pretty good time compared to the Surface Pro 4 (only 4 hours with the same settings) and the equivalent of XPS 12. However, when the screen is bright and views videos only through YouTube, the battery capacity of G1 dropped dramatically from 82% to 69% after nearly 30 minutes.
