A good smartwatch will perform two tasks: the Watch is the basic thing to replace a regular watch, and the smart part is the auxiliary user features. If you ask how the Huawei Watch GT 2 duo performs the ‘watch’ function, the answer would be better than expected!
We have two versions, distinguished by 46mm and 42mm upper dimensions. The 46mm version looks like a dive watch with a GMT of 24 time zones. This ring does not have a rotation function to control like the Samsung Galaxy Watch but gives the 46mm Watch GT 2 a more luxurious bunker look.

The body of the Watch is made of black painted metal, looking very sturdy and strong. Outside are two buttons that are prominent on the body of the Watch, so it is easier to press, especially when we are not looking at the clock. The company uses a 1.39 AMOLED screen with a resolution of 454 x 454 is quite sharp, with enough brightness to be used in harsh conditions.
The version I use more is the 42mm Watch GT 2, partly because it has a small wrist, partly because I like the design of this product more – like a fashion watch.

We have lost the digital circle, but the 1.2-inch (390 x 390) screen is close to the edge for an elegant, luxurious look.
The 42mm version is a leather strap, which the company claims are genuine leather with metal fasteners. I think that this leather belt is not very high quality.
However, the Watch has a standard 20mm cord size, so we can easily replace it with a different one.

The strongest point of the Watch GT 2 duo in replacing the normal Watch is the battery life. According to Huawei, the 46mm version has a battery life of up to 2 weeks, while the 42mm version gets one week (7 days) due to the use of Kirin A1 chip and the LiteOS operating system developed by Huawei. Optimize well from hardware to software.
46mm version, according to evaluation from many foreign sites, gives the actual duration of about 12-13 days. The 42mm I use from November 14 to November 19, the remaining 5% battery reaches six days with Continuous frequency use (turn on all notifications, stay connected to the smartphone even at night). These are very impressive numbers compared to competitors from Samsung and Apple, usually, only have a duration of 1-2 days.

Despite the impressive battery life, the Huawei Watch GT 2 (especially the 42mm version) still has impressive thinness. A slim watch has advantages: it is difficult to scratch the glass surface because the entire Watch is closer to the user’s hands, avoiding good impact.
Another advantage of the Watch GT 2 is that the ‘flap to turn’ feature is more sensitive than the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active. Perhaps because of good battery life, Huawei adjusts the accelerometer on its Watch more sensitive and easier to turn on than Samsung – so that when using the Watch on the street, I never have to touch the screen. The ‘smart’ part is another story.

If only Watch GT 2 is used as a ‘watch,’ then this product is the best choice today in the smartwatch on the market. But having bought a smartwatch, users will have certain expectations of the smart features, and this is when the two products show their weaknesses.
First, the interface of Watch GT 2 still has a jerky and lag phenomenon. When switching between interfaces, it feels like the screen has a lower refresh rate than other smartwatches on the market, markedly less ‘smooth.’

The small but perhaps worth mentioning weakness is that the Watch GT 2’s charging dock is a magnet with contact pins rather than wireless charging. I tried using the wireless charging dock, and the power-sharing feature on the smartphone is not working, so we can only use the dock that Huawei provides.
Like other smartwatches, Watch GT 2 is integrated with features including health monitoring, heart rate measurement, stress measurement, integration of 15 exercise modes in different subjects, especially rather than having 2GB of internal memory for storing music to be used with a wireless headset via Bluetooth. So that whenever users leave the road, they forget the smartphone, they can still enjoy music.
If you are satisfied with that feature list, then Huawei GT 2 will not cause any trouble. But those who want to download more applications will not be able to do it, simply because this pair of watches is the first product to use the LiteOS operating system of Huawei, it has not yet built an app store for them.

Not downloading more apps is one thing; Huawei Watch GT 2 can’t even install different watch faces. Both versions already have some built-in watch options, but that’s all there is; there aren’t thousands of alternatives like the Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch.
The lack of perfection of the LiteOS operating system also manifests itself in small things like every time a message notification is displayed; we do not have the option to respond quickly, the clock ‘notices’ to the user. If Facebook messages have stickers or images, Watch GT 2 only shows the sender’s name; we don’t know what they sent!

Hard to recommend

Like the Huawei Mate 30 with the same company, the Huawei Watch GT 2 duo is equipped with very powerful hardware: rugged and luxurious design, sharp screen quality, and much better battery life compared to competitors in the market. But the experience of being a technology device is very much in the software, and unfortunately, Watch GT 2 can not do it fully.
