No need to introduce too much about iBasso – manufacturer renowned audio player with line-mid as iBasso DX50, iBasso DX90, iBasso DX100 or portable DAC / AMP iBasso DZero be favored players.

Last year, also unveiled iBasso new DAP next DX80 portable DAC / AMP D14 Bushmaster in an effort to regain the segment under $500 ahead of the fierce competition from Sony, Astell & Kern FiiO or both. But with engineers experienced, sound carriers from Japan decided to try a product segment completely new: the headset in-ear (Universal IEM) with the “firstborn” iBasso IT03.

IBasso IT03 Specifications. Notably, with low impedance of only 8 ohms and sensitivity of 105dB, the IT03 is quite pleasant to combine with the source, from smartphone to high-end music player today.

The iBasso IT03 is a Universal IEM (Universal fit) headset, but in terms of looks, the in-ear has the same design as a more customizable earpiece with large sized housing and lines curved bend. The entire housing is made from two pieces of high-grade acrylic painted glossy black, making IT03 light weight.

However, the strange thing is that the familiar iBasso logo is located on the housing – which lets people identify you wearing a headset – again imprinted gray on black is difficult to see. Is this the “intention” of the Japanese audio producer, when the IT03 was not too rambling.

The IT03 is quite large, but with the housing in the shape of a Custom headset, the curved, curved sections make it easy to attach, fit and sound.

In fact, with the right choice of tip, such as the soft Ortofon (about $10-$15), you simply put the IT03 lightly on the ear to enjoy a sense of comfort, while the sound exterior is effectively suppressed.

Like other headphones in the same segment, IT03 cable can be pulled out and it uses the popular MMCX connector standard today. Thanks to this, users can easily repair and upgrade their high-grade fiber optic cables to get the expected sound.

The IT03’s neck strap is quite thin, beautifully twisted. Unfortunately, despite its low impedance, high sensitivity to hit the smartphone, iBasso has “forgotten” the design of an additional microcontroller integrated cable or mediacontrol. Over time, the ability to process sound on smartphone is changing clearly, for example the LG V10 or Marshall London recently introduced.

In fact, the iBasso mid-range DAPs like the DX50 and the DX80 are well suited for warm and slightly darkened ear buds. The fast experience shows that the IT03 also possesses the characteristic sound of the Japanese sound company: the bass strips are relatively thick, the bass strikes with good force and good control.

Bass heavy in volume, sub-bass down to deep vibration, mid-bass hit the whole mass to create a range of bass: not neatly decisive, speed just moderate. The other 2 strips are still familiar: mid a bit forward, separated and fine detail while the treble is not very prominent, quite gentle and technically inclined, smooth rather than thorny and strong.

As recommended by iBasso representatives as well as some people who have been experiencing IT03, this in-ear still needs a “runtime”: burn-in from 50-100 hours to maximize the potential.
