The iRobot Braava Jet m6 is a powerful, expensive robot that can sweep and mop your floors until they’re shiny.

Robot vacuums are great, especially if you have a lot of carpeting or rugs, but if it’s mostly hardwood or tile, you might want to consider using a robotic mop. They are not much better than the latest version of iRobot Braava m6. With long battery life and 1,000 square feet of coverage in a single session, the m6 is suitable for both apartments and larger homes. And if you have a mess that doesn’t need wiping, that’s okay because the m6 also scans. It can even detect carpet and map out your house to send it to specific rooms. At $499, it’s more expensive than most of the competition, and deep stains will still require some manual intervention, but the m6 is the best robotic mop to keep your floors clean frequently.

Design

Braava Jet m6 is compact, with dimensions of 3.5 x 10.0 x 10.6 inches (HWD). It weighs 5 pounds, making it easy to grab and move around the house. The top panel houses the rear docking sensor, camera, and handle. The top is also home to the water tank cover, on which you’ll find the Home, Clean, and Spot Clean buttons, as well as the RCON (room compartment) sensor. The light around the lid is solid when the robot is fully charged and blinks when it is charging.

The front panel features precision jet nozzles and padded push buttons. Flip the m6 upside down to find the charging contacts, wheels, pad reader, slide, and cliff sensor.

Performance

I started experimenting with using the m6 to dry-sweep my living room and kitchen. I slide the scan keyboard at the bottom, wait for the app to recognize the keyboard, then tap Clean. While my apartment was fine from testing many robot vacuums, the pad managed to pick up a surprising amount of dust and hair lurking around the kitchen and under the couch. It also shows professional navigation steps thanks to its camera and sensors, so I never had to rescue it from any snags.

After scanning the m6, I swapped out the wet wipe and some cleaning solution that came with it (you can also use water). When mopping, the m6 sprayed out a specific area and skimmed it a few times before going ahead and repeating the process, picking up more dirt than I expected. Once finished, the pad was completely covered in filth (I know), and my floor felt noticeably cleaner.

The mop doesn’t seem strong enough to tackle deep stains, but I didn’t have any to test. The good news is that if you run it often, you probably won’t.

Thanks to the laser navigation sensor, the m6 can recognize the carpet. In testing, whenever it came close to the rug in my living room, it turned around and returned to the hardwood floor. The Smart Map feature also works well. After four or five runs, it learned the layout of my apartment and generated a floor plan in the app, allowing me to label different rooms and send the robot to specific rooms.

The M6 ​​also works in tandem with iRobot’s Roomba i7 and Roomba s9 robotic vacuums. You can link them in the app, and when vacuuming is done, the m6 will go out and clean the newly vacuumed areas.

Battery life varies depending on the cleaning mode you use, but either way is good. In testing, I was able to clean for about 160 minutes when switching between mopping and sweeping modes.

Conclusion

The Braava Jet m6 is the smartest mopping robot we’ve tested and is likely a better buy than a vacuum if you have many hardwood or tiles in your home. iRobot’s Braava Jet 240 is $200, and Braava 380t is $300, a solid, significantly cheaper alternative. Still, the 240 Jet is geared towards smaller spaces like bathrooms and kitchens, where the 380t lacks app connectivity, smart mapping, and a host of other features. The iLife V8s is another solid option that doubles as a vacuum, but it lacks smart home functionality. That makes the Braava Jet m6 the most advanced robotic mop you can buy.
