amazon Just Cause 4 reviews
Just Cause 4, like previous Just Cause games, always gives players freedom in their vast context.
In this part, the game brings more weapons, more means of movement, more “toys” and a larger world for players to spoil.
One of the most powerful additions to Just Cause 4 was the fact that Avalanche Studios took Rico’s Grappler to new heights.
Now, Grappler is not just a hook shooting glove as before, but also integrates a multitude of “toys” with a series of upgrades for players to open and equip.
These upgrades can be unlocked through completing sidequests from NPCs such as Javi, Sargento, and Garland.
With Grappler being changed like this, Booster will now be attached to Grappler itself instead of in the GE-64 bomb as before.
Not only that, Booster also has many customizable capabilities such as activating itself after some time, changing the direction of movement and the speed of Booster …
The next “item” to be added to Grappler is the Airlifter. These are bubbles that can be attached to an object to lift it (from small things like people, furniture … to “giant” things like tanks).
The last feature added to Just Cause 4 is the Grappler Retractor.
This is a “toy” introduced from Just Cause 3, which is used to pull two objects together and create many special effects such as exploding and repelling them when touching each other.
With only these “toys” integrated into Grappler, players can create many special combinations that you cannot find in other games, giving you a feeling of extreme freedom in the execution of their action phases.
For example, the player can attach a customizable Airlifter moving in the direction of looking at a tank, then attach the Booster to the tank to accelerate while moving in the air, your tank will become a “cannon giant iron in the air!”
Just Cause has never been a strong story and character game, but the content of its predecessors is always reasonably guided and some characters still make the point and complete the role well in my game.
However, Just Cause 4 leads players into a rambling story, ridiculous with a series of characters … unforgettable!
In Just Cause 4, the game offers a somewhat serious storyline and focuses more on protagonist Rico Rodriguez.
This will be a bright spot if the scenario of the game is not too bad and somewhat awkward.
The first thing to mention is that the change of voice actors of some characters in the game has changed more or less the character’s emotions, some become moodier than their predecessors.
If in Just Cause 3, Rico’s voice is made quite expressive with the right tone up and down, in Just Cause 4, Rico’s voice only brings “one nuance”, not up or down too much even when sarcastic conversations take place.
The minor characters that players will encounter in the game are not too prominent and tied to Rico.
Besides, the event routes in the game are built very sketchily and illogical, for example, the Army of Chaos was only established within … five minutes but possesses weapons and military-grade technology!
How magical!
Not only the characters, but the surrounding scenes are also used very dark color frames, in stark contrast to Just Cause 3.
This is how the game tries to bring the dark and serious atmosphere of the plot into the world around the player, but this only makes the world look blurred and lifeless.
As a game that emphasizes the freedom of the player, Just Cause 4 hides so many bright features behind a dense “wall” created by the constriction of Avalanche Studios and the repetition of boring quests.
Throughout the game, you always have to heavily defend something like consoles or minor characters.
This wouldn’t be too bad if the enemy appeared was distributed fairly, but the game “throws” at you countless enemies with tanks and helicopters while you’re busy defending one certain statue.
However, if you accidentally “death” during defense, the game will restart you at any point and the target will immediately have more health!
You can use this “trick” quite a lot in the game, otherwise the guy Rico will not be able to withstand the “heat” from the enemy when surrounded from all sides!
Just Cause 4 offers players a wide variety of enemies.
However, their power is extremely uneven, and the way Avalanche Studios positions the enemies will make you always ask yourself the question “Why?”.
One of the most inhibitory in the game is the snipers with the ability to aim marksmanship and range… far to the point of terror! Even if you use Wingsuit to run away, they only take about three seconds to locate and shoot you down at a great distance.
Not to mention that these names also appear everywhere, even in caves with no light.
As noted above, “unlocking” Rico’s Grappler upgrades can be done through completing side quests from Javi, Sargento, and Garland, but there is highly designed missions’ absurdity.
For example, to “unlock” some cars, you have to find and drive them through a certain ring on the map to film footage for Garland.
Sometimes the cars you are looking for are located right next to the ring you have to drive, making it very easy to do.
However, there are times when they are placed somewhere on the map and you can’t even find Solís!
One of the factors most promoted by Avalanche Studio for Just Cause 4 is the extreme weather system such as thunder, tornado, sandstorm, and blizzard that will increase the authentic experience for players.
While a quick look will make the game interesting and make Solís more soulful, these weather phenomena are only present in certain regions of the map and are tied to the storyline.
Not only that, the game also uses blizzards to prevent players from locked areas until they have completed their respective missions. What a disappointment!
