Following Monster Monpiece, a card game had the opportunity to introduce to readers a detailed review. Moero Chronicle (original name Moe Chronicle) is the second project that the duo “hardware” Idea Factory and Compile Heart implemented in the Genkai Tokki series.

Moero Chronicle launched exclusively on PlayStation Vita in the Japanese market in mid-May 2014.

Have you ever had or even been suffering from “girl shyness”? It sounds funny, but indeed, even in the real world, many people have difficulty, from mild to severe, communicating with the opposite sex. If you’re that person or know someone like that, you’ll probably sympathize with the main character of Moero Chronicle, a guy who is a total failure at conversing with women.

LO is an ordinary village boy living in Monstopia, a world where humans live in harmony with nature and monster girls of all kinds. There is only one problem that prevents LO from living a “normal” life, which is that he never succeeds in any attempt to communicate with women because once with a girl, his head LO’s brain fell into a state of overload with all sorts of “oh my god” thoughts. After all, the only friend of the opposite sex LO has is Lilia, a monster girl with LO when he was just a boy.

Then, unfortunate fate, one day, LO’s wish to live a peaceful life in the village where he was born and raised was suddenly ruined for some reason. The “female” girls monster” suddenly became agitated and began to attack humans. Right now, what the world needs is a hero. LO is the “chosen one.” Together with Lilia, LO sets out to conquer the monster girls and find out why they are no longer as gentle as before.

With Moero Chronicle, Idea Factory, and Compile Heart have no intention of raising their plot profile. Like many other games of this duo, the content of Moero Chronicle is mainly based on light, humorous dialogue situations, with the main highlight being female characters with high “cute.” Yes, the plot of this game is not a work of art enough to make you unable to take your eyes off or will remember forever, but at least enough to inspire you to follow.

Completely different from Monster Monpiece, which is the name of the card game genre. Moero Chronicle is a role-playing game with turn-based gameplay in the first-person perspective (you can only see the opponent but cannot see the enemy faction members in each battle).

Besides the “side jobs” such as exploring the toy map, finding items, etc., your main task is to conquer the female monsters and other types of monsters on each game screen. The captured female monsters will become teammates directly fighting with you (you have the option to create a party of up to five monster girls before entering each stage). While other monsters are tamer will become “assistants” who play the role of supporting the female monsters in various ways in battles.

Of course! Why can’t it? You can customize the costumes and accessories of each female monster to best suit your aesthetic eye as well as the direction of character building that you pursue. In addition, besides fighting with them, activities such as chatting, giving gifts, or further “stimulating” the female monsters will help you strengthen your relationship with these girls, bringing your party to your team benefits when fighting.

The “stimulation” mechanism that you need to use to attract as well as “upgrade your relationship” with the female monsters in Moero Chronicle is the full inheritance of the same mechanism that players need to use to “go to life” cards in Monster Monpiece. For their part, the monster girls will be responsible for fighting with normal attacks or various damage and support skills. In addition, the common factor between the four elements assigned to skills and each character also plays an equally important role in deciding the outcome of each match.

In general, the combat mechanics of Moero Chronicle is designed with the thought of sticking to the gameplay philosophy that Idea Factory and Compile Heart have been pursuing with their role-playing games for many years now: simplicity, accessible and puts player fun above.

One of the biggest shortcomings of Monster Monpiece, as the writer mentioned in the detailed review of that card game, is that although the development team has designed a rather diverse system of mechanics form and complete, that still doesn’t give the gameplay the depth it needs. Sadly, with Moero Chronicle, that disadvantage has not been overcome. The battles that players face in Moero Chronicle are all too easy for anyone, even if you are a “newbie” in the role-playing game genre with turn-based gameplay. Just level up regularly according to the game route outlined, and you will safely overcome all the game’s challenges. That means that the effort to build the game’s combat mechanism system (if any!) of the game making team almost “waste” when the game is difficult to force players to think about what to do in battle.

The above problem exists in normal matches and in the levels themselves where you have to confront the female monsters, the battles that should be the highlight of Moero Chronicle.

After all, what is worth calling the attraction of these matches and the whole game is just the part where you need to “torture” and controller to interact with monster girls. But, how long can you put up with the boring cycle of easy battles and “muscular” “conquering” levels when the only real “reward” you will ever have? Is it possible to see beauties that are “not human”?

There is a solution for you to “improve the fun” in Moero Chronicle, that is… choose a greater difficulty. But the writer would like to warn that you will have to face battles not fair, clever games will only make you more frustrated!
