Design

Overall, the X9 still has a design philosophy as simple as its predecessors. The X9 is available in two colors: black and red, but it will definitely add more colors as the X3 and X6 are all “shiny” headsets.

The housing is quite simple, made of plastic but solid. The rough diamond shape is quite similar to the “compatriots” from TTpod China – TTpod T2

Inside the plastic, the X9 has two diaphragms located next to each other. Each speaker is smaller than the normal Dynamic

The cord of the headset can be extracted using Shure’s MMCX standard, but the plug is much larger than standard 2-pin headphones.

The string of X9 is made quite sure, the joints are rubber bearing. The 3.5 plug is made of L-shape to prevent folding

The headset MMCX is completely immersed inside, looking pretty solid. With such a wire, the X9 can be wired with the famous Shure from the US

This Fiio wire is made exclusively for Shure SEs, but can be used with the X9!

Sound

Moxpad is famous for producing high-quality headphones, with plenty of bass to match pop and dance music. And with the X9, Moxpad has followed this tradition, with some minor changes to fit the consumer. Overall, this is a headphone with warm, thick sound and a lot of bass

Bass

What I like the most, is also what the ear is most prominent is the ability to play bass. The X3, as well as the X6, are two earphones, but to the X9, it adds a bit more to make the headphones even more exciting. The first thing is the volume, the bass of the X9 pretty much enough to call it a bassy headphones. Even this amount of bass has a feeling more than the predecessor X6. Trying on the “Lean On” dance track, the X9 delivers more bass than almost all of the headphones in the under $50 we hear.

One of the earphones that can measure the depth of the X9 is the SoundMAGIC E10s twisted wire remake, and the other earphones have average bass but not the X9. Maybe this is the result of using two drivers. The TTpod T1 also has two drivers, but probably does not play bass so does not have the bass like X9. One of the elements that makes this bass stand out is how it is presented. The bass of the X9 is quite deep, sub bass down almost no limit. Of course, if up to the high end headphones, especially the Earsonics, we still have the bass down even deeper, even more smoothly but this is rare in the headphones under $50.

The sub was played in faded almost the last note, spread in the background music and then off. With the less bass, this song will be almost mid bass, not as heavy as the X9. The play of the X9 is also quite compact and feel dense, certainly not hollow bow feeling. When playing down, the bass usually has a little resonance, not turn off, making the bass becomes more majestic. But this also has a downside. When X9 plays high-speed metal or rock, high-frequency pedal blues are slightly sticky, not as clear as high-speed bass. But the company has also designated it as a headset for Dance, Pop and Electro, so listeners needing higher bass rates will have other options. With such bass, the basshead will be satisfied in both volume and substance!

Mid

The mid-section of the X9 also suffered some effects from the high bass (high bass) as previous Moxpad products, but not too much. With the X6 and the heavier X3, the bass was heavily encapsulated into the mid section so the vocalist became thick and heavy. At X9, the company limited the singer to a little more escape. Overall, this is still a warm and thick mid section

Mid’s X9 also hit a lot on the low mid, but was added a bit at the high to keep the sound free. Trying to sing French La Mer, the singer Trenet is very thick, but still have the clarity needed. The high midrange encapsulates a slightly lower bass than the lightweight headphones. The female voice is quite high, not rolled off too early to cause a sense of loss, there is a bit more escape than the X6. So the voices of high-profile singers such as Whitney Houston or Celine Dion sounded a bit more vocal although overall still warm, dense and thick. The high mid section was not high enough and hit to produce sibalance, including the highest chords in Careless Whisper by singer Yao Si Ting, a singer who was brought out to try sibalance. With the song When you believe, the vocalist tends to slightly back towards the music, making it feel soothing and comfortable.

But the strength of mid X9 is still in the Pop and Dance categories. The autotune sounds like Adam Levine’s sense of non-glare, harmony with the bass, so Maroon’s pop sensations do not go off. This is not the most prominent midrange, but there have been minor changes from previous releases so that listeners can hear more genres. With X3 and X6, listeners are limited to Dance, Pop, Electro, but with X9 the listener can hear Ballad, a little Jazz. Bass and warmth, comfort is also an advantage of the headset when listeners can listen for hours without feeling tired!

Treble

With deep bass and dark tone of course, the treble is not the strength of the X9. The treble of the X9 just stopped at an average, do not make a lot of points compared to the traditional treble. Try with Lucy Durack’s Dream A Little Dream of Me, which is played in a warm and sweet way, not bright and cool. Treble up not very high, to some time will roll off. The advantage of the X9 treble is that it does not suffer from a nasty sibalance. This treble will best suit the background of vibrant music, never to create a jarring sensation. Jazz or vocal need to have treble to emphasize the X9 can not be perfectly expressed.

Ability to change sound when changing strings better

With the change of wires, users can change the tone of the Moxpad X9 as you like. If you feel the bass is not enough then users can replace a copper wire. Or if you want the X9 to have a bit more treble, brighter and more bass to play faster songs can replace the silver wire of Fiio, or high-end, the wire of the Shure SE535. The sound of the X9 also changes when changing strings, so investing more strings is probably not a bad idea. The only downside is that when I use the X9 with the SE535 wire that is too thick and too hard, the ear can easily slip out of the ear than the stock strap. Perhaps the softer fibers such as Fiio’s will fit better with this headset, both in terms of sound, wear and economy!

With the expected price not too high compared to its predecessor X6, this is a worthwhile upgrade product. The X9 has several small upgrades in its design to enhance its aesthetics, durability and convenience. But the bigger thing is the improvements in sound quality. The X9 still has the same warmth as its predecessors, but has taken a step further in the bass, as well as a slightly more open sound.
