Better design

In general, Nokia 5.1 Plus will still carry a familiar design language we have seen on other Nokia products like Nokia 6.1 Plus. The machine is completed from 2 glossy glass surfaces, combined with a metal frame that definitely gives a luxurious and firm feel when held in hand. However, the frame of the device feels like “real” like the metal frame on the Nokia 6.1 Plus, which is also lighter than the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Nokia 5.1 Plus’s glass face has an almost identical design compared to the Nokia 6.1 Plus with a convex dual camera cluster and is placed vertically in the middle of the device. At the bottom is the familiar Nokia logo with the “Android One” logo at the bottom showing this is a version running on Google’s Android One platform with the original interface and long-term support from Google. This glass back of Nokia 5.1 Plus is easy to stick to dirt and fingerprints, however it is easy to clean.

On Nokia 5.1 Plus, Nokia will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top edge of the device. The plus of this device comes from the fact that the device has switched to using the newer USB-C connection port, along with the ability to support 2 sim or 1 sim 1 memory card.

Quality display quite

On the screen, Nokia 5.1 Plus owns a 5.8 inch LCD “rabbit ears” screen, the resolution is reduced to HD + (720 x 1520) instead of Full HD + as on Nokia 6.1 Plus. The quality displayed on this screen is just not too good and not too bad.

Due to owning an HD + screen, some entertainment experiences on Nokia 5.1 Plus may not be as good as devices with sharper screens. In addition, the screen of the device still provides a good brightness when used outdoors, along with the colors are displayed faithfully, not too bright like AMOLED screen.

Compared to “brother” Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 5.1 Plus has “rabbit ears” with a bigger notch part, although it is only to put in that speaker, selfie camera and other sensors.

The larger notch section will lead to a visual limitation of the icons, typically the percentage of battery will not be displayed immediately in the status bar, but users will have to drag down the notification bar to view batery percent.

Good configuration compared to price range

With the launch of Nokia 5.1 Plus, Nokia wants to focus its products on the segment of mobile gamers. It has a decent performance in price range with the MediaTek Helio P60 chip instead of the Snapdragon 636 as on the Nokia 6.1 Plus. With the Helio P60 chip comes with 3GB of RAM and the powerful optimization comes from Google’s Android One platform, the device will still bring a sufficient performance, even can play the title game cult currently with medium to high graphics levels such as PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9.

During testing with PUBG Mobile, this game automatically identifies and installs the average configuration level for Nokia 5.1 Plus. With the average graphics level, parachute jumps, shooting, driving are still smooth, with no drop in FPS. Occasionally in some places with many house details and having to handle many tasks, the new machine has a slight stalling phenomenon, this problem does not affect too much to the gaming experience of the machine. Users can also set a high level of configuration for this game, however the FPS level will not reach 30FPS as standard.

Experiment with the second game, Asphalt 9: Legends, with this game, users can keep the graphics level high without any lag lag during the game. We will still be able to see jagged in game graphics, but it seems that this is due to Gameloft optimization problem, and Nokia 5.1 Plus will still “weigh” the game smoothly. Experience on the racetrack with supercars is extremely amazing.

Scoring with AnTuTu Benchmark, Nokia 5.1 Plus easily reached nearly 120,000 points with more than 57,000 CPU points and nearly 23,000 GPU points. With a performance test with 3DMark, the device reached 742 points, a figure not too low nor too high.

During the performance test, the machine did not experience overheating, only warmth in the camera area and will quickly cool down when not in use.

The camera is still very good, erasing the font correctly

The camera is not really a highlight on Nokia 5.1 Plus, however, it is still equipped with dual camera cluster with the first sensor 13MP f / 2, supporting autofocus with phase and 5MP second sensor for measuring Depth, support for portraits to remove fonts. In addition, the device will also have an 8MP f / 2.2 selfie camera on the front.

In terms of camera quality, with full daylight conditions, photos from Nokia 5.1 Plus main camera have good quality, high-detail images, true colors, not too bright.

Going to low light conditions, will be a challenge for Nokia 5.1 Plus. Photos taken in this condition are of poor quality, the camera of the camera tries to increase the light, causing the image to be slippery, losing quite a lot of detail.

In addition, Nokia also integrates some other features including manual manual mode, panorama shooting, both front and rear cameras at the same time and Google Lens.

Battery life

Nokia 5.1 Plus is equipped with a battery of 3,060 mAh capacity like on “brother” Nokia 6.1 Plus. This is not a big number in the current smartphone market, but with only one HD + screen, Nokia 5.1 Plus brings a quite impressive battery life.

Specifically in the test of battery life with mixed tasks including surfing the web, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube with 4G LTE network and both heavy gaming (PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9) for a long time, Nokia 5.1 Plus can last for 4 hours with continuous screen brightness. This is quite an impressive time with the intensity of use many heavy games.

The battery life test is fully used with 4G network, with the use of Wi-Fi, the device can also bring a more impressive battery life.
