Design

Partron Croise.R from the very first version has a necklace design, and the company gradually upgraded this design in each version. In the PBH-400, the neckline was thinned considerably, reducing the total weight to 20g. One good thing about the necklace design is that it can integrate a small vibration motor into the control unit, which vibrates to indicate when a call comes in, or the headset goes out of range wave.

The PBH-300, PBH-400 is waterproof IPX4, is not enough to fully immerse but still has the ability to prevent sweat or rain. A small upgrade point, but very handy in this pair of headphones are the strings are flat, have the ability to fight better than round wire.

The control unit is moved to the right side of the neck, including the power button cum stop / play music and receive calls, two volume control cum transfer. In addition to holding down the power button and (-), the user can switch back and forth between the audio modes (Equalizer) including: Bass, Normal and Treble.

With its compact design, the PBH-400 still has 8 hours continuous playback and 300 hours of standby time. With a frequency of 1 hour a day, users can use it for a week.

Headphones can be used alone, or users can download more of the company. The main task is to enable / disable vibration and LEDs, or control the ability to read messages of social networking applications. However, currently the best support application for the Korean market.

Experience

The PBH-400’s most powerful sound enhancement point is the Superior Fidelity SF, which is made up of three 46nm thick layers instead of the conventional one. 10Hz – 40kHz. In addition, due to the special design, the sound is higher than 10Hz not sound echo, which makes overall sound cleaner. The technology was developed by Professor Shin-Ryeol Lee, who has 10 years of experience in the field of sound research. This is not a new technology, which has been applied to a pair of headphones called Sonicast DIRAC, but the Partron PBH-400 is the first pair of earphones to incorporate this speaker system with wireless headphones technology.

Applying SF to a wireless headset also has a major drawback: Bluetooth connectivity often compresses information between the source and the headset, resulting in significantly reduced music quality. And that’s when the ability to compress apt-X music works. The apt-X is a much better compressed audio codec than previous standards, which retains the maximum amount of information that makes the SF membrane more capable.

But perhaps nothing more than the actual experience! The PBH-400 was not the first pair in the Crois line. Two products of PBH-200, PBH-300 were tested and written in the past, and summarized in 3 words “difficult to clean”. This pair has a balance between the strips, but the left side is not too many highlights, so sometimes lack of personality. These earphones can perfectly hear all kinds of music, but not in any particular genre, so it’s a great pair of headphones. With the PBH-400, the company has a few minor changes to the headset to keep the “easy” listening characteristics, but for each strand of personality and more prominent, breaking the same boring tone before.

First of all we have to discuss the Equalizer function, which helps to increase the Bass, keep the Normal and Treble. Users can customize the sound to match the music, but with the original sound quality of the headset is very good.

+ Bass

The upgrade that most users expect is the bass stripe. The PBH-300’s bass range is not too bad, just enough volume and not too strong, with more focus on mid-bass, so there is a slight bloat.

With the PBH-400, the drum sound has been pushed deep, reaching the sub-bass, giving the feel of a thicker and less roll-off. Especially after 100 hours of burn-in, real drum (not electronic bass) in Emily Browning’s Down and Dusky Blonde was soft, round and warm. I appreciate the bass of this pair of earphones, keeping the control of the predecessor.

+ Mid

The bass-head would probably love to change the bass strings, but the band I’m most pleased with is the mid, especially the way the PBH-400 shows the instrument. The midrange of the headphones is generally clean, but smooth and avoids glare in the high-mid segment. On vocal performance, headphones have a stronger tendency toward female vocals thanks to their slightly richer sound, which produces subtle and airy sound.

On the instrument panel, the headphones impressed me with the way the guitar was reproduced. Try Sawing of the Strings, a high-speed bluegrass version by Alison Krauss, the distinctive guitar sounds and high-revving guitars. There are two points to making this, the first is the neutral PBH-400 neutral, so the instruments, including the guitar is not changing the tone and keep the nature.

The second is the sound of the headset is quite good, so the sound feels like a real thing, smashing the user. I usually do not talk about the sound of low and midrange earphones, because honestly speaking, most are not good at this, but with the PBH-400 the sound is pretty good. Of course, if you dare to invest a larger amount of money, you will be able to reproduce more prominent images, a typical example is the WI-1000X, but at less than $100 is difficult to beat this pair of headphones.

+ Treble

Treble is quite similar to the mid range, which is very clean and natural. This is not the highest treble range, especially when compared with the Balance Armature. But with PBH-400, the company is aiming for easy listening, a sound that can be heard long term so this sound band is very suitable.

The winds in the instrumental Miracle of the group Above & Beyond are not sharp, but quite thick and sweet, the melting speed is not fast. This is not the “bright spot” of the headphone sound quality, but it is technically not a weakness. But of course, users can use the “Treble” Equalizer to push this band, for me the harmony in the default mode is worth more than the brightness of a band.
