Razer is renowned for its Gaming Gear brand that looks after the looks and design, not just the product but the box itself. As the company’s mainstream product, BlackWidow Ultimate is no exception.
Every year, Razer releases one or two new versions of BlackWidow with some changes and improvements. In the lower right corner of the box has the 2016 EDITION text very large in traditional blue, highlighting the black background to distinguish it from the old.

Design
BWU 2016 still looks boldly the predecessor of 2014. But Razer has brought a very worthwhile improvements that gamers long awaited: That is the omission of unnecessary button buttons Macro to help return key layout. The shell material is also Razer improved, no longer as fake fingerprints like the previous version. The plastic layer of this 2016 touch feels completely different, softer and without fingerprints.

Like all Razer Gaming Gear products, the BWU 2016 uses the Razer Synapse 2.0 driver to control the leds, as well as customize the keyboard. The software interface has 3 tabs: Customize, Lighting and Gaming Mode.
The first tab (Customize) is the general picture of the keyboard. Gamers can create and use different profiles in this tab.
The second tab (Lightning) is where the user adjusts the brightness of the keyboard. BWU 2016 is greatly enhanced by Razer, providing a much more intuitive interface than previous versions. A total of 6 bright modes:
– Breathing: Lights slowly turn on like breathing.
– Reactive: The LED will light on the button being pressed and then turn off.
– Ripple: The light emitting from the key is pressed.
– Static: Static bright mode.
– Starlight: Lights turn off any like star sky.
– Wave: Lightship mode like the Chroma version, but only green instead of 16.7 million colors.
On the Gaming Mode tab, users can turn on the BWU 2016 gaming mode: All Windows keys, Alt Tabs will be locked, and F lines will become the corresponding Multimedia buttons.

User experience
The BWU 2016 uses the same Razer Switch as its 2014 predecessors and Chroma. Razer offers users two different versions of Switch:
– Green Switch version: For click click sound, typing feel “good”.
– Orange Switch version: For people need absolute tranquility, but not type “ok” by Green Switch.
The feel of the BWU 2016 seems to be stronger than the old version. The version in my hand uses the Green Switch, typing text and using the usual extreme, can be addictive after a short time.
In the game arena, the ability to Anti-Ghosting 10 keys at the same time is enough perfect (equal to the number of people’s fingers), all the complex keystrokes encountered when playing the game are smoothly received.
Conclude
At the end of the year, Razer finally listened to the gamer to create the most complete version of BlackWidow Ultimate, the most significant of which was the revised keyboard layout. The traditional macro keys have been removed, making the product more user-friendly with the new BWU lineup. In addition, the shell material has improved, no fingerprints as before.
