Resident Evil HD Remaster – Since the beginning of the PS4 and Xbox One era, many old titles have reappeared under the “Remaster” (or Remastered) label.

They are all reworked games, with changes in graphics, or the addition of new features.

However, with Resident Evil HD Remaster, we have a new “definition”, as this is a remake game based on … another remake.

The reason for this is when Capcom decided to remake his classic Resident Evil – which was released in 1996 and released it exclusively on the GameCube in 2002.

This is a true remake because it owns a completely new graphics platform, much more beautiful than the original.

So when it was released, it received a lot of support from gamers.

As for Resident Evil HD Remaster, many people just see this as a way of “milking”, when saying that Capcom only refurbished “beauty” for a “remake” game that is over 10 years old.

Is this true?

At the time of its release, Resident Evil was considered a pioneer game for the “Survival Horror” style.

As a branch of an action-adventure game based on horror elements, the above genre is not too focused on violent acts, but instead, they focus on navigation, puzzle, and survival under strict conditions.

The main characters are not equipped “full”, even the number of items, ammunition collected is very scarce.

Therefore, the highlight of this genre, as well as the Resident Evil series, is to create “fear” for players.

Due to retaining all the content from the original GameCube, Resident Evil HD Remaster perfectly recreates the horror that created the success of the game series, which is slowly fading because of the later versions.

If you are a beginner to Resident Evil, this first release will be the source of all the events that take place in Raccoon City after that.

Players will play as Chris Redfield, or Jill Valentine – 2 members of the special team S.T.A.R.S, tasked with investigating the mysterious disappearances.

After the opening series of events, the two will be trapped in a large mansion, full of zombies. Finding a way out of the mansion, solving the mystery is the player’s main task.

Depending on the character the player chooses, they will have different advantages and disadvantages.

Jill can carry more items, but her stamina against attacks is lower, in contrast to Chris.

And unlike later versions, when two characters will have two separate play parts with the same storyline, there are only some details in the way to find the way and solve the puzzle.

Solving puzzles while facing zombies is extremely challenging.

This is even more difficult when almost all puzzles are of the type of high difficulty and very logical, while the support or suggestion is not much, making the player always have to maximally brainstorm.

These are also the points that create a very unique feature of the first Resident Evil versions, something that the later versions will never have.

In addition to graphics, Capcom also improves an equally important part is the character control mechanism.

In the original version, the mechanism is called “Tank Control”, meaning the character can only go forward and back, the left and right buttons only help the character rotate the circle.

And now, the three-dimensional control mechanism has been added to the Resident Evil HD Remaster, along with the customization of the buttons, allowing the character to move easily in 360 degrees according to the player.

Therefore, whether a new player or a “veteran”, they can still easily re-experience the Resident Evil HD Remaster.

This is a type of control that was very common with ancient games.

For those who have admired the graphics of the remake on the GameCube in 2002, surely when “returned” to the Spencer mansion in Resident Evil HD Remaster, they will be surprised again.

Still those scenes, the same characters, but now become more detailed and clear, along with new light effects help the game “creepy” more.

Especially when the resolution is raised to 1080p, and the frame standard is 60 fps.

Therefore, players will have a feeling of “smooth” when experiencing Resident Evil HD Remaster.

Not only that, on consoles, Capcom has added a 16: 9 aspect ratio option for today’s widescreen displays, but they still retain the 4: 3 aspect ratio, for those who like to enjoy. Again, this classic game in the most “classic” way possible.

However, the graphics of Resident Evil HD Remaster are not impressive when compared to today’s games, some scenes have sketchy details or unobtrusive fire effects.

This is understandable and easy to sympathize with when the GameCube version was released in 2002, and the age of Resident Evil is nearly 20 years.

To compensate, Resident Evil HD Remaster allows players to change the appearance of the two main characters.

In it, there’s both Chris and Jill in the BSAA uniform from Resident Evil 5.

The only unfortunate thing in the Resident Evil HD Remaster is, perhaps, that the year-old “creepy” cutscenes are gone.

Instead, the cutscenes made by the game engine are quite “dry”, the voiceover is bland …

And perhaps, with a rather sluggish game beat, Resident Evil HD Remaster may not be suitable for most younger generation gamers, or those who only play Resident Evil 5 or later, because they are used to it the aggressive nature that Capcom applies.

That is why the Resident Evil series has become out of horror ever since …

It seems that with Resident Evil HD Remaster, Capcom has successfully proved one thing: don’t change what makes a monument, even the smallest!
