Redundant Battery Charger Romoss Sense 6

– Capacity of 20000 mAh – 74Wh@3.7V

– Input 5V-2.1A

– Output port for slow charging 5V-1A

– Fast charging output port 5V-2.1A

Test 1: Test the maximum supply

The equipment used for the test includes the J7-t advanced USB tester and 35W load simulator. This test to check the load capacity of the product to see if it is the same as the parameters given from the manufacturer.

According to the manufacturer, the output ports of Romoss Sense 6 have different capacities, one port is 1A and the other one is 2.1A. However, the test results show that both ports can give the charging current about 2.4A, higher than the manufacturer’s specifications. However, it is recommended not to rinse with this high flow for a long time because it will reduce the life of the product and have a high risk of fire.

Raise the load on the 2.4A, the Romoss Sense 6 drops the power to 4V. With this voltage, the device is no longer guaranteed to charge again.

Test 2: VS voltage test

Uses multi-function load balancer with EBD-USB + computer connection. Software on the computer will control the discharge load while simultaneously measuring and recording parameters such as discharge current and voltage.

I set the scan mode from 0.1A to 3.0A, each step is 0.1A with 10 seconds duration, the voltage cut at 4.0V. Software on the computer will control the load discharge starting from 0.1A, after 10 seconds will increase to 0.2A and keep on until until 3.0A or voltage drops below 4.0V.

The results show that when the discharge current increases, the voltage drops accordingly. With the discharge current from 0.1A to 2.4A the Romoss Sense 6 and maintain the voltage level of 5.0V. When the discharge current is greater than 2.4A, the voltage drops to 4.0V. This result is similar to test 1.

Test 3: Check the actual capacity

The equipment used for the test includes the J7-t advanced USB tester and 35W load simulator

I fully charge Romoss Sense 6 and then discharge by simulator load with discharge current 1.5A, measure the capacity of discharge with J7-t. Normally, to measure the capacity more accurately, it is recommended to set low discharge but not have time so I set at 1.5A, the average is equivalent to when charging the phone.

During operation, the hottest temperature measured was only 40 degrees while the ambient temperature was 30 degrees.

After about 9 hours, Romoss Sense 6 is completely exhausted and can not supply power to J7-t anymore. So I have to plug the J7-t into the charger to review the parameters.

Thus, the total actual discharge capacity is about 68.6Wh, which is equal to 93% of the manufacturer’s parameters.

Test 4: Check the charging capacity.

The equipment used for the test includes an advanced J7-t USB tester and 18W charger.

In this test I will check how much energy it takes to recharge Romoss Sense 6. This test is not really necessary because practically nobody cares about the charging capacity of input.

After nearly 14 hours, the four lights on the product stop flashing and light completely, check the J7-t see the current consumption is only 22mA. I think that Romoss Sense 6 is now fully charged. We see the charging capacity is 95.2Wh, which is equal to 138.8% of the actual capacity of the product.

Conclude:

Romoss Sense 6 works exactly as the manufacturer’s specifications, impressive load up to 2.4A. Actual capacity is 93% of the specifications, quite good compared to other rechargeable battery products.

However, the Romoss Sense 6 has a long charging time, up to 14 hours, so many times will be passive to the user during the time required.

Test 4 shows that the energy required to fully charge a spare battery or a phone will usually be much larger than the capacity of the battery cell in the charger. Therefore, using a phone or tablet to test the battery capacity of the backup battery is completely inaccurate.
