Design
As the smallest product, it is easy to understand when XB12 has a very small box, to reach in the palm. Looking through the enclosure, we can also see that the speaker will be water resistant (namely IP67).
The inside also doesn’t have many accessories, only the micro USB charging cord. The pair of high-end 1000x headphones has moved to USB Type-C, but this year’s eXtra Bass still stops at the micro USB standard.
The speakers are really small, just equal a cup of water! The exterior is made of young rubber, giving the grip a very good grip and also giving it a high resistance to water and dust. The only point that users have to pay attention to is not to put speakers beside sharp objects, young rubber can be scratched causing bad over time.
Despite the ultra-compact design, XB12 advertising agency has a playing time of up to 16 hours, extremely impressive! With regular usage frequency, speakers easily pass milestones 1 week, and even up to 2 weeks for those who use less.
The version I have here today has a very youthful green look, in addition to white, black, dark blue, pink and red. Unfortunately the XB11-like cam version is gone.
XB12 only has a single speaker diaphragm and exits on the top, but at the bottom there will be a passive vibrating membrane to make the sound more dense, not too thin like the products from China.

Sound quality
Similar to XB10, XB12 because it uses only a single diaphragm and not 2 as higher range products, it is also possible to achieve the ‘super bass’ sound as usual. Instead, the speaker will depend on the passive vibrating membrane at the bottom to push the bass higher, not to sink into the background.
Of course, compared to XB22 and XB32, XB12 cannot match the amount of bass, but when compared to all speakers with the same size (volume), XB12 is still slightly more significant. Bass is quite good, focusing on hitting the mid bass very hard to create excitement, and also because the sub bass section cannot be made stronger. Vicetone’s Navada song keeps the tempo fast, with each drum beating down to create a force to the ears, the punchy is not completely lost. If you really need strong bass, serve the most powerful Dance songs, I will still try a little more to upgrade to XB22 or XB32.
The speakers will pick up points in the rear components, because of the bright sound and less bass. The mid part of XB12 is quite bright, and when compared to XB22 and XB32, it is much more advanced. According to my memory, this new version has a brighter mid-light than XB10, so when used in open spaces or with loud noise, this component is not much weakened. Kayne West’s voice in Stronger is clear, a little lacking in thickness (due to the lack of boldness from the bass up), but compared to a speaker held in hand, XB12 has done so well.
The treble part of the speaker is not bad at all, it is also slightly brighter than XB10 like the singer voice. This sound will still have a roll off when high up, so it will not be too powerful, but it is just enough to make the main range of the bass and mid speakers sound. With Pop songs like Thunderclouds of LSD, the treble is good enough to create a quick, auxiliary rhythm for the bass to make them more vibrant.
Summary
It’s hard to say that the XB12 is a completely new speaker compared to the previous XB10 version, but certainly no one will complain, because the previous version has received a lot of praise. Although there are not as many basses as big products, as well as removing backlight, but XB11 and now XB12 are eating points in compactness (very high mobility), youthful design and strong sound style, healthy.
