Sony Xperia Z5 still features Sony’s familiar Omni Balanced monolithic design style for almost three years. Still a smartphone that looks square, beautiful in style and simple, front and back flat, less detailed, with waterproof, dustproof.

Design

Compared to the Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 + (Sony Xperia Z4), the metal bezel surrounding the Xperia Z5’s body is more seamless and complete. As the metal frame is coated with smooth paint to prevent stains, have the same color with the back and add Xperia logo engraved on the side. But the feel of the Xperia Z5 is boring and less comfortable than the previous model.

New details first appeared on the Xperia Z5 fingerprint sensor. It is placed on the right edge to replace the circular source key featured on many previous Z models. Compared to the usual fingerprint sensor layout on the phone, the Home button of iPhone or Galaxy, or on the back of some Huawei models, Oppo, the layout of the Sony brings uncomfortable experience.

Sony Xperia Z5 is only convenient for opening with the right thumb or left index finger. Sensors are immersed so opening the screen also need more force when needed. If placed on the table, usually will have to pick up the new finger touch button, less inconvenient than the back. The speed and read the fingerprint of the Xperia Z5 is quite sensitive, the equivalent of the Samsung Galaxy S6 or Apple iPhone 6, but due to the layout of the border lead to operation slow or error.

The metal frame on the new Z “genuine” and refined more carefully Z3 or Z3 +. But when compared to other high end products, such as the Apple iPhone 6s or Samsung Galaxy Note 5, the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, Sony’s sophistication and seamlessness is not equal. The cover around the 3.5 mm headset jack is quite clear, easy to stick to dirt if used for a long time. The four plastic vertically framed vertically at Z3 and Z3 +, but still open.

The Xperia Z5’s most interesting design is color. The back of the machine is not clear in the type of glass is opaque. Thanks to that, the fingerprints are easily solved by Sony. Yellow and green are the new colors of this Xperia model. Both are more beautiful and attractive than the black, white, which is already familiar on smartphones now. Still available in black, but the Z5’s back is not as glossy as the Z3, but it’s grayed out like graphite, quite similar to the gray on the iPhone 6 and 6s.

Camera

Along with looks, the camera on the Xperia Z5 is refreshingly made and changes compared to the old Z. The three major differences are the 23 megapixel camera, instead of the 20.7 megapixel from the Sony Xperia Z1, the cross-focus technology for fast capture and capture speed and new camera software.

The Xperia Z5 is the best camera phone today with 87 points, slightly better than the Galaxy S6 edge (86 points) and better than the iPhone 6 or Xperia Z3 + predecessor (same 82 points).

In practical experiments, the Xperia Z5 shows good and fast autofocusing under all conditions, accurate white balance, good flash light and controlled image noise. Image stabilization is considered to outstrip the competition.

However, the machine also has some disadvantages such as blue sky is not reproduced real and some areas are inclined too light when shooting outdoors. Like the Sony Xperia M5, the Z5 encountered sharpness at the edge of the image compared to the center and the selfie camera caused the skin to be revered.

After much criticism of the software, Sony finally improved the interface of the default camera app on the Xperia Z5. If you are still using the old interface, just go to What’s New and select Update.

Compared with the camera software on the Xperia Z3 or Z3 +, the Xperia Z5’s interface is airy and easier to customize. Users only need to swipe their hands to switch to Manual shooting mode or record video, using effects, reducing the action as before.

The Super Autorior, has been able to change the resolution, to a maximum of 23 MP at a 4: 3 aspect ratio or use the 16: 9 aspect ratio at a lower resolution of 20 MP. Because it is limited to 8 megapixels. With manual mode, the white balance, bright compensation bar takes only one click to display.

However, compared to the well-known smartphones such as the iPhone 6, 6s or Galaxy Note 5, the LG G4, the Xperia Z5’s still photography interface is not as familiar to users as it normally is. In the settings of the Manual mode. While for those who prefer photography and need more professionalism, Manual mode is limited to manual focus, does not allow setting shutter speeds to be exposed or saved in RAW format. …

The camera is flat, not protruding due to lack of optical OIS lens. However, the video-shake resistance of the Xperia Z5 is better, more stable than the iPhone 6 and 6s, and does not lag behind many models with OIS anti-shake.

In the 4K video mode, the Xperia Z5 still shows a fast warm up after about 30 seconds of operation but not hot as Z3 and Z3 +. Heat alarms start appearing for longer 4K video shoots, up to 9 to 10 minutes. Then the camera automatically switches off to cool off. This is a better improvement at Z5 than the previous product.

Performance and battery life

Hot is a significant issue on the Xperia Z5. General configuration with Xperia Z3 +, are using Snapdragon 810 chip, but Xperia Z5 works more stable than Z3 +. The temperature is still increasing when users play the game, using the camera continuously, but it does not cause noticeable discomfort when holding the Z3 +. Sony has improved on the hardware itself by adding heat sinks to help keep the chip cool. This makes the Z5 thicker than the Z3 + to 0.4 mm while the battery capacity is reduced.

Performance on the Xperia Z5 is hardly reprehensible except for the heat caused by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip. With 3GB of RAM and Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system, the Xperia interface is streamlined, using mostly graphical effects from the original Google interface, making the experience smoother and quicker. Compared with Samsung or LG, Sony’s interface is smoother and more beautiful, can change Theme if you like

Capable of managing RAM and running multitasking on the impressive Z5. Users do not care how many applications are running in the background, but can open multiple mini-application windows running simultaneously called Mini Apps. However, except for the heat, the software experience and performance of the Xperia Z5 is not significantly different from the Xperia Z3 and Z3 +. If you are concerned about configuration, upgrading to Z5 is not necessary.

The compliment on the Xperia Z5 is in the battery, though not as good as the Xperia Z3 when it comes to reducing storage capacity. Even using two sims, the machine still gives uptime for more than a day. Compared to the dual sim rivals in the premium segment, the LG G4, the Z5’s battery is much better. It’s also better than the iPhone 6s and Galaxy S6 when the same amount of time consumes about 25% more. In battery test, while watching video, web browsing continuously with PC Mark tool, Z5 reached 6 hours 22 minutes.

Sound and screen

Sound quality on the Xperia Z5 is similar to the Xperia Z3 + and Z3. There are dual speakers facing the front like the Z3 but the Xperia Z5 is neatly placed and close to the edge of the Z3 +. These speakers give good effects when playing games, watching movies when facing forward. The sound is crisp and clear but the volume is not as loud as the HTC BoomSound.

In return, the ability to play music and coordinate with the new headset is the real advantage of the Xperia Z5 and the Xperia series in general. The product supports Sony’s high quality Hi-res Audio, which integrates DSEE HX audio technologies like the Walkman series.

Basically, it makes the Xperia Z5 able to handle and play 24-bit / 192kHz music, which is higher than the regular CD (16-bit / 44.1kHz). Lower quality tracks like MP3s can also be improved, for better sound and better with software. The best thing about the Xperia Z5 compared to other Android smartphone is the optimal mode of sound with each type of headphones.

The screen is not so focused on the Z5 because it still delivers excellent display quality like the Z3 and the Z4 while the resolution is still at Full HD. No need for 2K pixel resolution like the Apple S6 or LG G4, the Xperia Z5 gives you clear, crisp images thanks to a host of popular Sony technologies, such as the Triluminous platform or the X-Reality processor, Mobile Bravia Engine.

When placing the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, the models also use IPS LCD panels and equivalent resolution, besides the Xperia Z5, you will have the feeling of not wanting to use the iPhone anymore. Screen from Sony’s smartphone is really beautiful and much more attractive, vibrant color, high contrast and very clear, white tone also shows more accurately.
