amazon Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro reviews

Liberty 2 Pro is an upgraded version of the Liberty model from 2 years ago. However, if Liberty model has been received many positive reviews due to its cheap price and good sound quality, Anker decided to take the chance and invest in Liberty 2 Pro version which is oriented to a high-end segment with a price of $150, competing with products such as Samsung Galaxy Buds +, Jabra Elite 65t.

Price is the first advantage of Liberty 2 Pro, but when in this high-end segment, users’ need is quality.

The question is that:  Are this earphones worth the price? Let look into the following review below:

What’s in the box?

– Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro true wireless earphones

– Charging port

– USB-A to USB-C charging cable

– 6 sets of ear tip (not including the set from the earphones)

– 2 sets of ear wing (not including the set form the earphones)

– Documents and user manual

One of my first impressions with Liberty 2 Pro, is that Anker’s products are equipped many accessories. Besides, normally, other brands will only equip 2 extra ear tips (size S and L), compering with Liberty 2 Pro has up to 6 extra sets of different sizes to ensure this earphones fits all users. Furthermore, 3 pairs of wing tips (1 pair frome default and 2 pairs of extra) will help the earphones more firmly on users’ ears in case of sports practice.

Designs:

Firstly, Let’s talk about design of the Liberty 2 Pro’s charging port because, in my opinion, this is the most unusual charging box which I have ever experienced: Rough skin reduce the impact of sweat quite well, but the large volume makes it difficult to put it in the pocket of customers’s pants.

The charging case cover is sliding style, and I appreciate Anker for they have incorporated it as a switch button to turn on/ off the earphones. Once I slide the cover up, the earphones will immediately ready for connection and when I put it to my ears, the connection is completed. Also, after putting the devices back into the box and close the lid, it will also disconnect and temperaly pause the sound you are listening.

Below the lid is 3 LEDs that illustrate the remaining battery of the charging box. However, according to Anker’s announment, the Liberty 2’s charging box has battery life up to  4 more times for earphones because the capacity of the charging box is 500 mAh. Consequently, it is difficult to know how much battery each of these lights represents.

Behind the charging box is the USB-C charging port equipped with a rubber cover, which prevents dust and water from getting inside and damaging the port. If you worry about prying it off every time you charge it, don’t because the Liberty 2 Pro has the feature known as Qi wireless charging. For more details, next to the charging port is a button that helps to resets the Bluetooth settings to help you connect with other devices faster, instead of having to find the connected device and choose “disconnect”

The housing of Liberty 2 Pro has large size:  the ear protruding quite a lot and is easy to see when be used. When it comes to form-factor, these earphones is not completely in-ear like Samsung’s Galaxy Buds +, nor does it have long “stem” legs like Apple’s AirPods but it has many similarities with Sony’s WF-1000XM3.At present, Liberty 2 Pro only has a single gray-black version, perhaps Anker should consider adding new colors aimed at female users.

The point I like most about the design of the Liberty 2 Pro is the two controlling physical buttons above the earphones. Unlike most other products on the market today, with Liberty 2 Pro, you do not need to worry about unstable touch controls physical buttons that cause the earphones to plunge deep inside your ears every time you press. With a compact and elegant button, having ability to distinguish the users’ orders and not affect the wearing position, Liberty 2 Pro can be said to be the most standout earphones at the present.

To control, customers have clicked twice time on the button on the right housing to move to the next song, similar ability which is seen in the left housing helps users to return to the previous song. In addition, press any button one time will order the device to play or pause the music and if you hold for about 3 seconds, the virtual assistant would be turned on. However, you can change this settings with the SoundCore application, such as changing the function to increase or decrease the volume.

Fit and comfortable to wear

With a kit of all sizes, it’s not surprising that the size of Liberty 2 Pro fits very well with every demand. Initially, you will take a bit of time to get used to how to wear this earphones properly, but when you have worn it correctly, it will turn out to be very comfortable.

The Liberty 2 Pro clings to users’ ears very firmly, thanks to a pair of wing tips. Even when jogging or other excecises, the devices will show no signs of loosing, let alone falling out. Besides, the IPX4 dust-and-water-proof standards faciliate Liberty 2 Pro the ability to withstand sweat when practicing, or small raindrops.

However, Liberty 2 Pro is quite large and heavy so people wearing it for a long time will feel tired. During the experience, I listened continuously for a little over 3 hours before having to take it out rest my ears.

Connection and software

At the moment, the latest Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity is almost be required for every true wireless devices, let alone the premium segment like Liberty 2 Pro. Bluetooth 5.0 will provide better connection quality, farther and more energy efficient, while still able to compatible with all previous standards. This earphones supports three decoders (codecs), aptX, AAC and SBC, so no matter what type of device you are using (Android, iPhone, …), the audio details as well as the delay will be guaranteed to be the best.

During about 1 week of Liberty 2 Pro experience, I had almost have any problems with connectivity and signal quality of this device. For example, I could leave the phone in the living room and listen to music in the bedroom with the good signal. Also, signal lag is about half a second, which is the limit of the technology that we have to accept at present time.

About software, Anker has Soundcore application on both Android and iOS platforms that users can download it if they want and it is not a required software. By this application, we can track the remaining battery life of the earphones, change the features of the shortcuts as mentioned before, or adjust the sound quality with the equalizer.

The number of equalizer profiles of Liberty 2 Pro is said to be very… exuberance: besides 22 default profiles, Anker also integrates 7 more profiles (there will be 3 more in the future) which are made by manufacturers who have been awarded Grammy (to be honest, I don’t know any of them). However, among all of these profiles, I only really appreciate the “Soundcore Signature”, which is the default profile as soon as I took this earphones out of the box. However, HearID is the “secret weapon” of Anker corporation.

Basically, HearID will measure the sound frequencies your ears can hear to create a profile that best suits each individual. This is not a new technology or new feature but HearID is considered to be one of those rare things I feel really useful, and I can feel the difference clearly.

The process of setting up HearID is very simple:  you have to find a very quiet place then press on the screen once you can hear the sound. The measurement takes only about 3 minutes for both ears and I recommend that because it will help you to take the most potentials of the earphones

Sound quality

One of the advantages of having large size: Liberty 2 Pro has 2 drivers inside its housing: one dynamic driver 11mm (handling the bass) and one driver Knowles balanced armature (processing mid, treble sound). The two drivers are stacked on the form that manufacturer calls “Astria Coaxial Acoustic”. Whatever it seems to be, Anker has succeeded with it. To judge the sound quality fairly, I chose the default Soundcore Signature equalizer profile, and listened to music on the Spotify platform with a premium account.

Most noticeable thing on the Liberty 2 Pro is probably the upper-mid band: It has no recess phenomenon (vocal sound sinking than instruments’ sound), which tends to move forward. V-shape overall sound. Instrument details are fine and be separated clearly. With this mid range, Liberty 2 Pro expresses the female voice better than the male voice, emphasizing on the airy.

The bass range of this headset is only at satisfied standard but not fulfill the customers’ need. The bass is thick and punchy, people can feel the “thumping” sound when listening to dance or hip-hop genres. Although not encroaching on other bands, the bass of Liberty 2 Pro loses control of volume sometimes. If you listen for a long time, the listener’s ear will quickly feel tired. Furthermore, if you use the HearID profile, the out-of-control situation is gone.

The soundstage of Liberty 2 Pro is spacious, very airy and comfortable. The most disatifying point on this earphones is that it does not have active noise cancellation (ANC) feature. This technology allows users to enjoy sound without being disturbed by outside noise. Of course, how much this feature is worth depends on your listening habits: if you only listen to music in a quiet and private office or may be in your bed before sleeping, active noise cancellation may be unnecessary.

Battery life

With its large size, Anker was able to integrate a 65 mA battery for each earpiece. The battery life of Liberty 2 Pro is very good: about 8 hours for each charge in my test. That’s better than 4-5 hours of Airpods 2 or even Airpods Pro, on par with Sony WF-1000XM3 when active noise canceling is turned off.

The 500 mAh capacity charging box can be recharged 4 more times for Liberty 2 Pro, bringing the total continuous music time of this earphones to 40 hours. In addition, the ear also supports fast charging: 15 minutes of charging for about 2 hours of playing music and fully charging in 1 hour 30 minutes, if using wireless charging, it will be a bit slower.

Conclusion

This time, Anker has decided to “play a big deal” with Liberty 2 Pro, and with what these headphones are providing to customer, they absolutely have the right to be confident with their decision. The impressive battery life and sound quality that made me unable to leave the ears were the two undeniable strengths of Liberty 2 Pro. Of course, it would be more awesome if the size of the charging box and the earphones could be designed to be smaller and having active noise canceling on the next version would certainly make me look forward.  But If you appreciate the value of sound quality and experience, Liberty 2 Pro makes me very pleased

Advantage:

+ Comfortable and fitting design

+ Impressive battery life

+ Clear sound quality, exuberance in details

+ HearID works very well

Drawbacks:

– No active noise cancellation

– The size of the charging box and the earphones are still large
