amazon Apple Watch Series 7 reviews

The most important questions you need to ask about your brand new Apple Watch Series 7 don’t revolve around the Apple Watch Series 7, but around the Apple Watch you’re wearing.

That is to say, if your current watch has no problems, then the Series 7 is not attractive for you to upgrade. If you’ve been waiting for some special feature to buy yourself the first Apple Watch in your life, you will be disappointed. Last year, the Series 6 made many people feel the same way, and perhaps we will have to accept the fact that is happening with this product line: Apple will regularly release small updates that are not expected to be released. If you’re planning on replacing your current watch, it’s pretty cool, but if you say they’re a reason to upgrade, the answer is once again… “no”!

Upgrading aside for now. To be fair, the Apple Watch Series 7 is an excellent watch. The larger screen and faster charging speed are two standout features and both deserve praise. The Apple Watch has been on a separate level since its inception: for iPhone users, there is no better smartwatch than the Apple Watch, and for Android users, there is no better smartwatch as the Apple Watch.

Design and display

Apple Watch Series 7 does not get the design overhaul as rumored. Instead, it looks virtually identical to previous Apple Watch models and is still compatible with all bands in the series. The most subtle changes are in the overall size and eye-catching curves.

In addition, the Series 7 also comes in a few new colors, including midnight (slightly blue), starlight (a combination of silver and gold), and dark green (in most lighting conditions, it looks great) more like…grey, but sometimes you can still see the green clearly).

The biggest change is the screen, now 20% larger than the previous generation. When Apple first increased the screen size on the Series 4, it was thought it would make a significant difference in the experience and was completely worth the upgrade. On Series 7, the screen is nicer, better, but not enough to claim the same.

Apple says the always-on display on the Series 7 is brighter in ambient mode when viewed indoors. Meaning: the maximum brightness of the screen remains the same, but when you are indoors, the screen will not be as dark as before.

Another design change on the Series 7 is that it’s more durable than before. Quartz dials are now thicker and more resistant to cracking. The watch itself is also equipped with IP6X dust resistance for the first time, while continuing to be water resistant to a maximum depth of 50 meters.

Apple didn’t add any new health sensors to the Series 7. Its watch still tracks heart rate and monitors blood oxygen levels as well as electrocardiograms. Keep in mind that they should not be used for medical diagnostic purposes because the Apple Watch is not a specialized device.

Charging speed and battery

Apple Watch Series 7 still has 18 hours of battery life, just enough to last you all day long – maybe two days if the always-on screen is turned off and no exercise.

How good it would be if Apple did more to improve the battery life of the Series 7, especially when this watch model is upgraded (slightly) in terms of design. They can keep the same screen size as last year, in exchange for longer battery life. Of course, the Apple Watch battery isn’t a waste of money, but if only it could be improved like Apple did with this year’s iPhone!

Instead of a larger battery, we get faster charging thanks to the redesigned charging dock to use USB-C. A lot of people already have a USB-C charger, but they’ll probably need to buy another one (or a multi-port charger), because as usual, the Apple Watch Series 7 doesn’t come with a charger.

Apple claims that the charging speed of the Series 7 when using the new cable will be 33% faster than the old cable, and it seems they are not joking. That makes using the Apple Watch as a sleep tracker even more convenient because you can quickly charge it the next morning with ease.

However, if Apple integrates the Qi fast charging standard, it will be even better. Qi charging docks are available on the market, and the prices are also quite affordable – if you add a charger for the Apple Watch, obviously the cost and complexity will increase a lot. Older Apple Watch charging docks can still charge the Series 7, obviously, at a slower rate.

WatchOS 8

WatchOS 8 has some Series 7-only features, mainly because its larger screen allows for that. For example, when reading a message, the number of words that can be displayed on the screen will be more.

The Series 7’s two customizable watch faces are “Contour” and “Modular Duo”. If the Contour face has numbers on the edge of the screen and looks extremely bad on previous generations with larger screen borders, the Modular Duo face allows you to have two fully displayed horizontal functional clusters instead of just one as before.

The larger screen also allows you to type in a new way: using the mini keyboard. You can tap or swipe this keyboard and have autocorrect do the rest. This keyboard is as effective as any smartwatch keyboard currently on the market, but things are easier if you use dictation through Siri whenever possible. Not sure if Apple’s keyboard is as good as the FlickType keyboard that was removed from the App Store in January 2019?

Those are features exclusive to the Series 7, but WatchOS 8 has a few other things worth mentioning. It can automatically detect outdoor cycling (and does a great job, detecting when you’ve stopped at a red light).

Apple says WatchOS 8 will also fine-tune how it measures calories if the watch believes you’re riding an e-bike. There are no options to change that, it simply probes to see if your heart rate is below normal cycling standards, and your climb speed is higher than normal. There’s also no indicator on the display to let you know how the calorie measurement has been fine-tuned.

WatchOS 8 also has a new photo viewer that lets you send photos directly from the watch. In addition, the “Mindfulness” app with the “Reflect” feature will remind you it is time to meditate for a while. Perhaps this is a bit redundant feature, because meditation is a private activity, for many people it is also a spiritual or religious activity, so tech companies would better limit their involvement interfere in that.

Finally, the most unique feature on WatchOS 8: allows you to set multiple timers at once. You can do it in a timer application. You can ask Siri. You can also tell Siri to name each timer and view all set timer in chronological order. So cool – why didn’t people come up with this until 2021? And why iPhone still can’t do it?

Seriously, the ability to set multiple timers on the Apple Watch is really cool, especially when you’re cooking. You won’t need to strain your ears to hear what’s going on in the kitchen anymore when there’s an unexpected thing to go upstairs to work!

Ending

Apple Watch is the best smartwatch for iPhone users, by far. There are many types of sports bands that meet the requirements that the Apple Watch cannot, like Garmins which are more suitable for serious athletes, or Fitbits for those who prefer simplicity. But in terms of a computer on the wrist, the Apple Watch Series 7 can only be competed by previous Apple Watches.

If you’re using an older Apple Watch, the Series 7’s features may not be enough to convince you to spend money on an upgrade. They’re all nice, but not necessary. If there is something that makes you unhappy with your current watch, and you are not short of money, then why think? Other than that, the Series 3 is still pretty good and the price is too cheap, but you should not buy it. The Apple Watch SE will be more than worth the money.

As mentioned at the beginning of the article, don’t expect Apple to roll out major updates year after year for their smartwatch. Small improvements may not be what you’re hoping for (you want a brand new Apple Watch with a beefy battery, right?), but that doesn’t make the Series 7 a snob, by all features it owns.

The Apple Watch Series 7 is a great watch, and the best smartwatch yet. If it’s time to change your watch (or buy your first smartwatch), you’ll fall in love with it at first sight.
