Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a game from the United States but imbued with the classic … JRPG style, so what can we expect from a product painted with an extremely eye-catching “arcane punk” cartoon style come from Airship Syndicate?

There was a huge amount of turn-based combat in the 3v3 format, with an… countless number!

The way the combat system works in the game is not too complicated: the basic actions of each character in the party are performed as soon as the player chooses – usually with stereotypes such as basic attack or increases defense/dodge for the next turn (s).

Special skills possess stronger effects, impact more on the game, but they have longer “cast” times (can be pushed down after the next character, or pushed to the bottom turns), and consumes Mana to perform.

Little Gully, but the character … the most effective tank in the game with a great deal of shield-building and minimizing damage taken from opponents, Calibretto possesses many healing and “debuff” spells. “Making this giant robot an effective support character, Garrison is the main sword tip with high DPS, Red Monika “steals” with debuffs and direct killings of single targets odd …

All of these characters depend on each other in many different ways, especially with moves that can maximize the ability to “torture” the enemy if they are involved in a debuff.

For example, Knolan’s Ice Blast will “generate a larger number” if the Sunder can be imposed easily with Calibretto’s Gut Punch, Alumon’s Blood Boil will always cause critical damage if the opponent is in state fiery moves – can be created from Calibretto’s ultimate Cannon Blast or Knolan’s Fire Storm.

A team that works in harmony with each other will always be effective, and Battle Chasers: Nightwar is extremely skillful in supporting the player’s 6 characters with moves with the potential to effectively coordinate with each other, albeit. Players have a choice of any one (but don’t cry if you don’t bring a healing character with you!).

One feature that can be said that makes Battle Chasers: Nightwar unique is Overcharge and its management … Micro Mana.

During the battle, characters can generate a certain amount of Overcharge (each character has a different Overcharge threshold) from the basic skills and be superimposed on the main Mana bar – they are essentially temporary Mana and will be minus when the player uses a special move.

Mana management and Overcharge collection in combat become another interesting problem: the easy battle with “trash mob” is not worth your Mana, but it is a good opportunity for you to “plow” a little Overcharge. Gives the support character and heals the crew member to prepare for longer and more challenging battles.

The main map of Battle Chasers: Nightwar possesses a lot of potential enemies in the player’s way, but the new Dungeons are worth the game for you to focus on the most.

With the number 8 in total, the Dungeons in the game gather from 10-12 randomly arranged areas but there is no shortage of side puzzles with brilliant rewards for those who are keen or quick, Traps are ready to “pry” a bit of your blood if you accidentally, pieces of paper that own a piece of content and show the events that are happening behind the main characters’ perspective are scattered throughout the game screen, as well as dozens of battles that allow players to use their Dungeon Skills to their advantage and lead to the final boss battle with a distinct attack.

The reward proportional to the difficulty chosen by the player will also be the motivation for players to re-complete these Dungeons many times, especially when the battles here bring the most balanced and most exp shop with squads more than the battles that get in the way on the main map.

The writer’s first impression of Battle Chasers: Nightwar was extremely satisfactory – a very nice performance with impressive sonic visuals, relatively tightly designed combat mechanics, and viewable Dungeons as the game’s biggest highlight.

However, the problem of Battle Chasers: Nightwar lies in … numbers.

Within the first 4 hours, I had the feeling that the game had done everything to throw the maximum number of battles with “trash mob” possible in my face.

19 hours later, although the number decreased slightly, mainly due to the option to skip battles where enemies were too low in rank for the party, in general the frequency of fights spawned was still ridiculously high, making the writer unable to stop thinking that the Airship Syndicate wants to waste time and force the player to “training” insignificantly by being bound within the framework of combat.

The writer did not know if this was a characteristic of the turn-based JRPG genre or not, if it was true, Battle Chasers: Nightwar did a great job in making me … completely disenchanted with this game genre.

There are many ways to make training fun, but making dozens / hundred matches meaningless and wasting time is not one of them.

Is it interesting?

I don’t think even connoisseurs of Dungeon and Dragon will confidently say yes.

Finally, although Battle Chasers: Nightwar possesses many interesting boss fights due to the amount of “unique and strange” skills and the unpredictability of each encounter, there are also many battles behind beat makes the writer have … headache.

The game patch released minimizes the experience balance between seamless Dungeons, but I still have a feeling that this change is not enough, especially when the level gap of the enemy at Junkertown and the mine are three levels – a number that might not seem like a big deal but creates an oddly high difficulty barrier.

The game does not seem to want you to go straight to the main storyline but have to “derail” a little to plow, and this makes the writer even more annoyed by the repetitive nature of the game.

Oh and if you run into a bunch of infinitely healable hordes on a big hot air balloon unless you get past the 3 or 4 levels, don’t waste your time fighting them.

This is the moment that makes the writer give up and make sure the game “cheats” for the enemy to use the powerful move continuously without spending Mana – who balances the 3v3 strategy game like this?
