amazon EARFUN AIR S reviews

Unlike Apple’s iPhone, the Air S must be said to be a comprehensive upgrade, worth buying off the previous EarFun Air pair!

EarFun is a company with very strong beginnings, but the company is not “short of breath” and is constantly launching great products for the low- and mid-range wireless headset market. The latest product is the EarFun Air S, which doesn’t have the “Pro” suffix in the name but has a very “Pro” feature that is active noise cancellation!

As usual, the headset is placed in a square box with 2 main colors, yellow and white. Looking closer, we can see a few small wavy lines to decorate so that the box is not boring.

The front of the company prints the most remarkable features of this pair of headphones, of which the most notable is the active noise cancellation feature ANC.

The kit in the box includes 3 rubber pads, a user manual as well as a Type-C charging wire

The charging box of this pair of headphones is completely different from EarFun Air but more similar to two more high-end products, EarFun Air Pro and Air Pro 2. This box is also a bit large, but it has to be done to ensure guaranteed 30 hours of use (6 hours of headphones + 24 hours of additional charging) of the Air S.

Besides the ability to recharge with a Type-C port, we also have Qi-standard wireless charging, a feature that is so familiar with EarFun’s mid-range and higher products.

And here are our headphones! The Air S is still like other pairs of headphones from the “air” family, it is a pair of headphones with a tail, unlike the Free line, which is a compact In-ear headset inserted into the ear. The headset in general has a fairly simple design, with a color tone quite similar to the EarFun Air Pro SV pair designed by the company for the Japanese market, but the tail is made more complete. EarFun’s products are generally designed to be simple, and practical rather than beautiful!

The outside has a touch to control music, and volume, turn on active noise cancellation and turn on the Gaming Mode feature. More specifically, this is the company’s second pair of headphones after Air Pro SV equipped with software, so that can change the operation of this touch surface to the user’s liking.

The final feature in the external design of this pair of headphones is IPX5 water resistance, which can resist the user’s sweat when exercising, and withstand light to moderate rain.

As mentioned, this pair of headphones has a special feature that is supported by the software that the company previously designed first for the Air Pro SV pair. With this software, we can manage battery life, quickly turn on and off active noise cancellation, Gaming Mode, adjust EQ, switch touch operations, and update software if there is new software.

Surely EarFun products from now on will use this software, for a more complete and complete user experience when interacting with smartphones.

One thing that I like about EarFun is that the company regularly updates the chips inside its products, all using the new generation Qualcomm chip to ensure connection problems. With Air S, we have a QCC3046 chip with Bluetooth 5.2, apt-X is also combined with Gaming Mode to create low latency, ready for watching movies and playing games. The headset is also equipped with the ability to connect multiple devices and quickly switch Multipoint Connection, too, great!

The feature that many people have been waiting for in this pair of headphones will of course still be ANC active noise cancellation, so how effectively does it work? In general, the noise resistance of this pair of headphones stops at a decent level, when activated, I can still hear faintly the voice of the opposite person and some car horn sounds on the street, but the headphones cannot be eliminated all the noise.

The sounds that occur often and do not change much are handled by the Air S quite well, avoiding distractions when enjoying music. If the rating is on a 10-point scale, with 10 points being the best noise cancellation on the market from Sony, I would rate the Air S from 6 – 6.5, there are still things that can be upgraded.

For sound reproduction, the Air S uses a large 10mm wool composite diaphragm. Overall, this pair of headphones still follows the direction of EarFun’s sound quality, which is thick, warm, and slightly inclined to the bass range to get the excitement for Pop and Dance songs.

I appreciate the bass range of this pair of headphones, it has an average amount of only 1-2 steps above the average, not exceeding the uncomfortable threshold. Thanks to that, in songs with both background drums and vocals like Besame Mucho by Diana Krall, the bass does not encroach on the mid, still interrupts where it needs to be interrupted.

Bass when listening to feel the weight, feels like there is a force on the ear, not flaring. To say that the Air S can separate each bass layer for outstanding detail is not yet, but at the mid-range price for a pair of TWS, that’s already good enough.

The mids and highs are generally quite good, both are slightly back (quite small) compared to the bass because the bass still has more ground to play anyway. The singer’s voice with Air S is quite similar to the name of the headset, not too thick but airy, comfortable, and laid back. For me, the ear can still brighten the high-mid part a bit, the female vocals will become more prominent.

The laid back and comfort continue in the high range when it has a moderate brightness, enough to create a wide soundstage space for treble assignments at the edge of the sound. It does not suffer from sibilance at all, even when showing real treble sounds like hi-hat, real cymbal in jazz, or electronic treble in EDM music.

EarFun remains unstoppable!

Perhaps every time I review EarFun’s products, I repeat a sentence: this continues to be a great product from the Chinese audio company. Air S continues to be another product that shows its position in the mid-range wireless headset segment, a product worth owning and experiencing every day!
