amazon LG 27GN800-B reviews

The new LG 27GN800-B is part of the company’s UltraGear Series, and it’s packed with exciting features for gamers and creative professionals alike – especially its high refresh rate and wide color space.

This 27-inch IPS panel is designed for gaming and has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels – QHD is a smart compromise to keep prices low, but it also means current titles will be on display at higher quality settings.

The monitor’s 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response rate, and 350cd/m2 maximum brightness come in handy during long gaming sessions, and the same comfort lasts when you want to use the monitor for demanding task creation.

Design & Features

In terms of design, this gaming monitor captivates gamers, but with a different design from the LG 27UN850-W UltraFine monitor, we reviewed a few days ago. A vibrant RGB ring at the rear of the display, where the base attaches to the panel, makes the display look refined on both the front and back. LG calls the LED Sphere Lighting 2.0, but no matter where you decide to view it from, it still looks good.

The 3-sided virtually bezel-less display offers more viewing space, and the rear LED looks bright enough to bounce off nearby walls or the surface of your screen. Aside from the flashing lights, the rest of the display is textured plastic, supported by a V-shaped stand.

Port selection is good: a pair of HDMI ports, a DisplayPort, and a headphone jack – but its 38-inch sibling, the LG 38GL950G-B lets you connect your PC to a monitor via a USB 3.0 (Type-B) port upstream, and it also includes a pair of downstream USB 3.0 ports that you can use to charge smartphones and other devices.

The LG 27GN800-B UltraGear is a mid-range gaming monitor, but it can also easily shine as a productivity monitor. You could easily mistake it for a TV, as the 16:9 aspect ratio is quite wide, displaying a quality picture on a wide canvas.

Back to the game, this monitor has credentials in order, topping the list is a bright QHD resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and of course a 1ms response rate.

In addition to good gaming, the 27GN800-B also supports adaptive sync – Nvidia G-Sync is compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium support, and that makes sense for such a high resolution. In games like Metro Exodus, for example, you’ll average 50 fps, but thanks to G-Sync, everything feels like you’re playing at the native frame rate.

Screen tearing is a common problem when gaming, but adaptive sync technology like G-Sync helps to reduce screen tearing that occurs when a game’s frame rate doesn’t match its refresh rate. As a result, G-Sync monitors like the LG 27GN800-B UltraGear have variable refresh rates and can synchronize min and max refresh rates for smooth gameplay.

Conclusion

Simple design, gamer interface, and clear display are what you get with the LG 27GN800-B UltraGear gaming monitor. As such, it adds player-centric features and performance including 144Hz refresh rate, G-Sync compatibility, 1ms response rate, QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution, and wide aspect ratio (16:9). That’s pretty much what you’d expect from such a beautiful monitor offered at a reasonable price.

Like all monitors, our review unit has a few flaws that are hard to overlook, especially the lack of a USB port and built-in speakers, but that’s not a deal breaker as they’re completely out of the question does not affect performance. Again, there are cheaper options like the Scepter C275W-1920RN with similar features and even better looks, but the 27GN800-B still has some charms that make it unique and mesmerizing.

That said, the LG 27GN800-B UltraGear is a good monitor and your games will look great on an immersive widescreen and movies look great, if not good. For gamers and creators looking for an affordable QHD IPS monitor that looks great and performs well, this is a perfect choice.
