Moondrop SSP – the latest headset model, a variant of Moondrop SSR. We will explore Moondrop SSP together through this article to see if this is the next hot-hit product from Moondrop.

BOXING AND ACCESSORIES OF MOONDROP SSP

Moondrop SSP’s boxing method is simple but makes me quite excited. The box of Moondrop SSP has a much more eye-catching and dynamic color than the previous SSR version.

The space purple tone with the illustration and the stylized SSP logo is quite cool. Moondrop is trying to convey to users the personality of SSP that will bring in a mischievous nature, color to distinguish it from its predecessor SSR.

Inside the box, the presentation of the SSP is still made the same as the previous version. We will have a pre-wired Moondrop SSP placed in a very thick foam layer. Next to it is a small paper box containing accessories, including one carrying bag and 1 set of ear tips, two sizes S and L (Size M is available on the ear).

DESIGN AND FINISHING OF MOONDROP SSP

Moondrop SSP inherits the housing design from Moondrop SSR.

The biggest difference of Moondrop SSP comes from the outer coating. The paint color of Moondrop SSP is navy blue with a smooth matte surface. I find this paint more stubborn and masculine than the glossy paint on the SSR.

The distinctive heart-shaped exterior combined with a gilded snail is a highlight for Moondrop SSP.

The housing of Moondrop SSP still uses the same alloy material as on SSR. The finishing details are extremely solidly reinforced.

Another difference in appearance on Moondrop SSP compared to SSR is that the dust net has been changed. Moondrop SSP uses a circular perforated metal dust shield instead of the mesh layer on the Moondrop SSR.

The size of the Moondrop SSP is the same as the SSR, very compact and suitable for girls’ ears.

The included wiring is no different from the SSR. Silver-plated copper wire using 2-pin connector and 3.5mm plug.

The part is marked on the right with a red circle.

Overall, the design and completion of Moondrop SSP are at a very good level. With the new color scheme, even Moondrop SSP looks much better and cooler than SSR.

MOONDROP SSP’S WEARING AND MIXING

Due to the compact housing size similar to the Moondrop SSR, the Moondrop SSP is easy to wear and fits almost all types of ears, especially female ears. Moondrop SSP has the same weight as Moondrop SSR, also quite light, so wearing it for a long time does not cause ear fatigue. If you want the most comfortable experience with Moondrop SSP, I recommend using upgraded ear tips like Ortofon or Spinfit for the best wearing feeling.

Moondrop SSP has 16 Ohms impedance and 112dB sensitivity, slightly lower than Moondrop SSR but still very easy to pull. You can use Moondrop SSP with most sources from Phones, computers, to music players without having to have a separate amp.

SOUND QUALITY OF MOONDROP SSP

Moondrop SSP stands for Super SpaceShip Pulse. Right from the name makes us feel different from the Reference-quality of SSR.

The overall sound quality of Moondrop SSP is cheerful, V-Shape is light. The mid-range is slightly pulled back but still retains the typical negative color of SSR.

Bass range:

The bass of Moondrop SSP is not violent but still has a soft, moderate tightness. The bass is quite deep but does not pull the tail much. Mid-bass is emphasized, neatly hit, relatively rounded, smooth. Bass has a fairly fast response time; on tracks with fast bass in Metal, Moondrop SSP can handle it well without sticking together. I appreciate the Moondrop SSP’s bass range in this price range.

Mid-range:

Mid is very smooth, neutral. Vocal has a moderate thickness, showing both male and female voices well. The singer’s voice will be slightly back from the stage due to the V-Shape tune. The high-mid part is still emphasized just enough to make the voice fly and airy. The sibilant phenomenon is very well controlled.

The detail in the music is not outstanding, but it is good enough for the price range. Instrumental sound is not discolored, reproduced clearly, and with separation.

Treble strip :

Treble on Moondrop SSP has a moderate amount, focusing a lot on low-treble to enhance the sound details. However, the treble is rolled off quickly when going high, so the sound has not reached the jingle, shimmering level. Anyway, it’s very difficult to ask for everything with a dynamic driver when we already have good bass and mid-range.

Stage space:

The soundstage of Moondrop SSP is still quite airy, not too wide, but enough not to feel suffocated. The stage depth is improved, the height is average. The ability to reproduce the instrument’s position is quite accurate, but the image is not clear.

COMPARISON WITH MOONDROP SSR

Because the appearance of these two products is so similar, even the hardware uses the same driver, so we will not compare this part but only focus on the sound quality.

Put on the scale, the sound quality of the SSP is a more fun version of the SSR.

Bass range: Moondrop SSP’s bass has more volume, impact, and tension than Moondrop SSR. Moondrop SSR’s bass is somewhat flat and lacks bounce.

Mid: Mid-range of Moondrop SSP, I believe, will be more suitable for most users than SSR. The reason is that the mid of SSP is a bit laid back; it sounds more relaxed. The high mid is slightly reduced compared to the SSR, so the sound is somewhat warmer and more emotional.

Treble range: The Treble of Moondrop SSP is a bit gentler on the SSR. It’s less jingle but matches the overall emotional sound quality of SSP.

The stage space on Moondrop SSP has better depth but is narrower than Moondrop SSR. The ability to separate the instrument and reproduce the sound of the two does not have a significant difference.

EPILOGUE

Moondrop SSP will be a more mainstream version of Moondrop SSR. It inherits all of the signature design that makes the success of the Moondrop SSR, but the sound has been tweaked for fun, suitable for a wider range of users.
