Open the box

MSI packs the RX 5700 XT in a distinctive red-and-black rectangular box. The front of the box has the name of the card and some basic information about the product.

Opening the box, we see the card is solemnly placed in the middle. Above it, we will have a pair of documents containing the manual and driver disk. But in my opinion, you should go to the AMD website to download the driver.

Heatsink Design

At a glance, you will see that the heatsink design of the RX 5700 XT is still a bit of Vega’s direction. The dimensions remain the same. The only difference is that the surface has straight grooves instead of the bold “Nokia 1202” design of the previous generation. This new design improves the appearance and creates a more comfortable grip for the user. The MSI logo is placed in the center of the squirrel cage fan.

The highlight of this radiator design is a slight curve. It has caused quite a lot of controversy among critics and has become the subject of endless photo manipulation of the online community. However, AMD has defended that decision. They wanted to change the design a bit, to avoid being molded too much. In addition, the curve also has the effect of increasing the efficiency of the squirrel cage radiator.

On the side of the card, we have the auxiliary power ports with the Radeon logo with glowing red LEDs, not RGB LEDs.

Connectors and backplate

As I said above, the RX 5700 XT has 2 auxiliary power sources: 1 6-pin and 1 8-pin. In addition, AMD requires a real power supply of 600W or more to power the card.

At the back, we have a metal backplate, with the same design language as the front. In addition, we have more red lines with the Radeon logo on the bottom edge, near the auxiliary power heads

In terms of output, we have 3 DisplayPort 1.4 ports and 1 HDMI 2.0b port. The absence of a DVI port or other ports on the top makes it possible to install a single slot bracket when installing a water cooling block. Thereby creating neatness for the case.
