amazon TP-Link Archer AX10 reviews

This dual-band router delivers stable 2.4GHz, and 5GHz performance and shows good signal range in tests. As often happens with low-cost routers, you won’t get features like USB connectivity and multi-gig ports, and it doesn’t support 160MHz channel widths or WPA3 encryption.

Nice little design

The Archer AX10 is a small router finished in glossy and matte black with textured mesh panels and the TP-Link Logo. Like the TP-Link AX50, the TP-Link AX10 has a low and long case, measuring 260mm wide but only 135mm tall. That makes it easy to fit into your home, and the four antennas only project 155mm upwards. The front edge houses a series of LEDs indicating power, both radio band, internet connection, Ethernet activity, and WPS activity, and the rear panel houses four gigabit LAN ports, a WAN port, reset button (RESET), WPS button, power button, and a power jack.

The Archer AX10 is a quad-stream dual-band AX1500 router capable of maximum data rates of up to 300Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 1,201Mbps on the 5GHz band. It is powered by a 1.5GHz triple-core processor, 256MB of RAM, and 16GB of flash memory, and uses 802.11ax technology including OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access), allowing multiple users to share the same channel for more bandwidth-efficient use, TWT (Target Wake Time) to help reduce client power consumption, MU-MIMO concurrent data transmission and direct to signal beamforming client machine. However, it does not support 160MHz channel bandwidth or WPA3 encryption.

The router can be managed using a web-based control panel or with TP-Link’s Tether mobile app for Android and iOS devices, but the web control panel offers more advanced settings options. It opens the main screen with a network map showing the router and the number of connected clients. Tap the router icon to view more detailed information such as IP address, wireless SSID, CPU load and memory usage, and LAN port usage.

In the first interface, there will be a Network map, Internet, Wireless, and Advanced. The Network Map button takes you back to the main screen interface, and the Internet button opens an interface where you can configure your internet connection and MAC Address settings. Use the Wireless button to edit your SSID, Wi-Fi password, encryption type, and guest network settings. Here you can also enable Smart Connect so that both bands share the same SSID and password, and let the router choose the best band for optimal connectivity.

Selecting Advanced takes you to a screen where you can access all of the settings mentioned above, as well as more advanced settings including access control settings, Port Forwarding, VPN, and IPv6 servers. This is also where you’ll find parental control and QoS (Quality of Service) settings.

The Parental Controls feature is also too simple compared to the AX50. You can only filter the web by specific keywords. Finally, the AX10 router doesn’t include AntiVirus, a valuable feature that protects the entire network from malware and online threats in real-time.

Easy installation, stable 5GHz speed

The intuitive, easy-to-use interface makes setting up the AX10 easy, even for first-time users. Start by powering off your modem and connecting the AX10 to it using the included LAN cable (also connected the desktop PC to the AX10), powering on both the router and the modem, opening a web browser on the desktop PC, and typing tplinkwifi.net in the address bar. This launched the web console setup screen, prompts you to create an admin password, set the time zone, select the connection type (DHCP, Static, PPPoE, L2TP, or PPTP) and personalize the SSID and password your wireless password. After testing the connection and updating, you’re ready to test.

TP-Link claims speeds up to 1.2Gbits/s on the 5GHz band, while the 2.4GHz band promises up to 300Mbits/s. The four rear-mounted antennas support 4×4 MIMO to help maximize connection speeds, but multi-user MIMO is not included in the package.

In the test with close space, the 2.4GHz bandwidth speed of the AX10 is 79Mbps. The AX10 performed better in our 5GHz bandwidth speed tests. Its 755Mbps speed is excellent, just behind the AX11000, when this router hit 782Mbps.

It’s a Wi-Fi 6 Router for just over $45

TP-Link Archer AX10 is one of the most affordable routers on the market. TP-Link Archer AX10 brings Wi-Fi 6 networking to your home for just over $45, although you don’t get all the benefits this new technology brings, as it doesn’t support 160MHz channel width or WPA3 encryption and USB connectivity, multi-gig port. That said, you’ll be hard-pressed to find these features on any router under $45. In mind, as well as its steady speeds on the 5GHz band, the AX10 is a decent choice for budget-friendly Wi-Fi 6.
