amazon Treatlife Smart Wi-Fi Color LED Bulb reviews

The Treatlife Smart Wi-Fi LED is a super affordable, hub-free color light bulb that you can control with your phone and voice.

The price of smart bulbs is falling, with many good white-only options in the $10 range. Treatlife Smart Wi-Fi Color Bulbs are sold separately for $12.99 or under $10 when purchased in packs of two or four, making it the most affordable color light bulb we’ve seen tested — not to mention more affordable than many white-only bulbs. It offers rich colors and adjustable whites and support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. It lacks support for IFTTT apps that allow it to be activated by third-party smart home devices like cameras and motion sensors, and it doesn’t support Apple’s HomeKit home automation platform, but you will have to spend twice as much for a light bulb.

Features and Applications of Treatlife Bulb

Treatlife bulbs are priced at $12.99 each, $19.99 for a pack of two, and $35.99 for four. It is an A19-shaped LED with an E26 base, which will fit into most standard light fixtures and measures 2.3 inches across, 4.5 inches long, and produces 810 lumens worth of light output, equivalent to 60 watts. The bulb is dimmable and capable of producing 16 million colors, with a broad adjustable white temperature range from 1200K to 9600K. It has also got a WiFi radio built-in, so no hub is required.

The bulbs are controllable through the Smart Life mobile app (Android/iOS) that also controls other Treatlife devices such as the Smart Plug. Alexa and Google voice commands also work. However, it does not support Apple’s HomeKit platform, nor does it work with IFTTT-type applications through which it could interact with third-party smart devices. It also lacks energy usage reports as would the TP-Link Kasa Filament KL50 Smart Bulb.

The app opens My Family screen, where controls are shown for all Treatlife devices currently installed in the room. The bulb control panel presents the bulb’s name and contains buttons for Power, Brightness, and Color Temperature. Tap the Brightness button to bring up a slider panel for setting the level of brightness. Tap the Color Temperature button to bring up a slider panel for setting the white temperature level. Tap the light bulb icon to open the Dimmer screen, where four white temperature presets can be selected or a custom temperature can be chosen through the white wheel. Swiping right will reveal the Color Display Pre-sets: blue, green, orange, and red, along with a Color wheel to create custom colors for the lights.

At the bottom of the screen are the On/Off, Dim, Scene, Music, and More buttons. The Dimmer button takes you to the Dimmer screen mentioned above. The Scene button takes you to a screen where you can choose from preset lighting settings, including Night (red-orange), Read (bright white), Do Work (cold white), Relaxing (warm white), Gentle (green), Colorful (green, blue, yellow and red change), Vibrant (red, blue change, green, blue) and Gorgeous (fades from blue to yellow to green).

Tap the Music button for the app to access your phone’s microphone, promptly change the bulb color to whatever music is playing, and tap the Add button to create an on/off schedule and use a countdown timer.

There are a few buttons on the bottom edge of the My Family screen. The Smart Button opens a screen where you can create Touch-to-Run controls that let you do things like change colors or switch to a specific white temperature setting with the touch of a button. You can have these buttons appear at the top of the My Family screen for quick and easy access. You can also create automation so that your bulbs react to weather conditions, and when your location changes, you can turn them off at sunrise and on at sunset or react to devices suffer from other Treatlife. Finally, the Profile button lets you access account settings, edit home information, run a network diagnostic utility, and sign out of the app.

Install and use Treatlife bulbs

Installing Treatlife bulbs is easy. I installed the mobile app from my last review, but if this is your first Treatlife device, you will have to download the app and create an account.

I screwed in the light bulb, switched on the light, and the bulb started flashing. I tap on the + icon on the top right of the app, select Smart Bulb from the list, and confirm if the bulb is flashing. I was asked to pick my Wi-Fi SSID and enter the password, and within 15 seconds, the bulb got connected. I gave it a name, and that’s the end of the setup.

In the test, Treatlife bulbs showed intense colors. In the channel of colors, at the low end of temperature is a soft, yellowish-white, and at the high end it glows a bright bluish-white. The bulb responded instantly from the app commands, and I could easily ask Alexa to turn it on or off, change colors, or adjust brightness levels.

Affordable color smart bulb

The Treatlife Smart Wi-Fi Color LED bulb is able to create different mood lights in millions of colors and in several white temperatures without hurting your pocket. It has its Wi-Fi radio, so no hub is needed; your color can be changed, and you can turn this bulb on/off with voice commands via Alexa and Google. At under $10 per bulb when sold in bundles, it is surely a good deal even if it lacks access to third-party smart devices. If you want a full-color smart bulb that talks with cameras, motion sensors, and door locks, think of Zee Smart LED Bulb. It is a little expensive compared to the Treatlife bulb, but it runs on IFTTT apps and provides support for Alexa, Google, and Siri voice commands, along with Apple HomeKit and SmartThings home automation platforms.
