Treatlife Smart WiFi Color LED Bulb

The Treatlife Smart Wi-Fi LED is a super affordable, hub-free color light bulb that you can control with your phone and voice.

The price of smart bulbs is falling, with many good white-only options in the $10 range. Treatlife Smart Wi-Fi Color Bulbs are sold separately for $12.99 or under $10 when purchased in packs of two or four, making it the most affordable color light bulb we’ve seen tested — not to mention more affordable than many white-only bulbs. It offers rich colors and adjustable whites and support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. It lacks support for IFTTT apps that allow it to be activated by third-party smart home devices like cameras and motion sensors, and it doesn’t support Apple’s HomeKit home automation platform, but you will have to spend twice as much for a light bulb.

Features and Applications of Treatlife Bulb

Treatlife bulbs are available for $12.99, in a pack of two for $19.99, or four for $35.99. It’s an A19 shaped LED with an E26 base that will fit most standard lighting fixtures. It measures 2.3 inches in diameter, 4.5 inches long, and outputs 810 lumens, equating to 60 watts. The bulb is dimmable and can produce 16 million colors, and it has a wide adjustable white temperature range from 1,200K to 9,600K. It also has a built-in Wi-Fi radio, which means it doesn’t require a hub.

You can control the bulbs using the same Smart Life mobile app (Android and iOS) to control other Treatlife devices, such as the Smart Plug. You can also control it using Alexa and Google voice commands, but it doesn’t support Apple’s HomeKit platform or work with IFTTT apps that allow it to interact with third-party smart devices. It also lacks the energy usage reports you get with the TP-Link Kasa Filament KL50 Smart Bulb.

The app opens the My Family screen with controls for all your installed Treatlife devices. The bulb control panel shows the bulb’s name and has buttons for Power, Brightness, and Color Temperature. Tapping the Brightness button launches a slider to increase and decrease the brightness level. Tapping the Color Temperature button opens a slider that allows you to adjust the white temperature levels. Tapping the light bulb icon opens the Dimmer screen, where you can choose from four white temperature presets or use the white wheel to choose a custom temperature. Swipe right to open the Color Display with blue, green, orange, and red color presets, as well as a color wheel that lets you create custom light colors.

At the bottom of the screen are the On/Off, Dim, Scene, Music, and More buttons. The Dimmer button takes you to the Dimmer screen mentioned above. The Scene button takes you to a screen where you can choose from preset lighting settings, including Night (red-orange), Read (bright white), Do Work (cold white), Relaxing (warm white), Gentle (green), Colorful (green, blue, yellow and red change), Vibrant (red, blue change, green, blue) and Gorgeous (fades from blue to yellow to green).

Tap the Music button for the app to access your phone’s microphone, promptly change the bulb color to whatever music is playing, and tap the Add button to create an on/off schedule and use a countdown timer.

There are a few buttons on the bottom edge of the My Family screen. The Smart Button opens a screen where you can create Touch-to-Run controls that let you do things like change colors or switch to a specific white temperature setting with the touch of a button. You can have these buttons appear at the top of the My Family screen for quick and easy access. You can also create automation so that your bulbs react to weather conditions, and when your location changes, you can turn them off at sunrise and on at sunset or react to devices suffer from other Treatlife. Finally, the Profile button lets you access account settings, edit home information, run a network diagnostic utility, and sign out of the app.

Install and use Treatlife bulbs

Installing Treatlife bulbs is easy. I installed the mobile app from my last review, but if this is your first Treatlife device, you will have to download the app and create an account.

I screwed the light bulb into place, turned on the light, and the bulb started flashing. I tap the plus icon in the upper right corner of the app, select Smart Bulb from the list and confirm that the bulb is blinking. I was prompted to choose my Wi-Fi SSID and enter the password, and within 15 seconds, the bulb was connected. I named it, and the installation is complete.

Treatlife bulbs delivered strong colors in the test. Soft and yellowish whites are appropriate at the low (warm) end of the temperature spectrum and bright and bluish at the high (cool) end. The bulb responded immediately to app commands, and I had no trouble turning it on and off, changing colors, and adjusting brightness levels with Alexa voice commands.

Affordable color smart bulb

With the Treatlife Smart Wi-Fi Color LED Bulb, you can create mood lighting in millions of colors and multiple white temperatures without spending a bundle. It has its Wi-Fi radio and doesn’t require a hub, and you can change its color and turn it on and off with Alexa and Google voice commands. When purchased as a bundle at less than $10 per bulb, it’s a great value, even if it doesn’t integrate with third-party smart devices. If you want a full-color smart bulb that works with devices like cameras, motion sensors, and door locks, consider the Yee Smart LED Bulb. It’s more expensive than the Treatlife bulb, but it uses IFTTT apps, works with Alexa, Google, and Siri voice commands, and supports the Apple HomeKit and SmartThings home automation platforms.
