amazon What Remains of Edith Finch reviews

Indeed, What Remains of Edith Finch takes the player in the footsteps of the heroine Edith back to the old roof on a secluded rural island away from the bustling metropolis. That’s where all three generations of Edith lived. The puzzling thing is that all of them suddenly die prematurely for various reasons but for some reason the main character is not known. As Edith, the last survivor of this clan, players will discover what is called the “Curse of the Finches” and explore the industry.

The story is so, but the way the game plays is explored and led by the story. I quite like the storytelling in What Remains of Edith Finch. Characters and dialogue are displayed in the corners or items in the environment of the game screen. In fact, these positions are also responsible for leading the player in the story. You just follow the letters to discover the house of the finch family.

If you’re looking forward to a quiz game with many dark puzzles, What Remains of Edith Finch will disappoint you. In fact, the problem seems to be a bit difficult to find a way to enter each room of late members. This is not the key. Instead, the player must make use of the mysterious paths of the house through storytelling, picture books, or music boxes. When exploring in the house, Edith recounts the story of their house, family, and their happy lives until mysterious deaths take place.

I like this story. It is a story full of emotions, strongly influenced my experience. When the player finds a moment related to the character in the room, you will have the opportunity to learn the truth about the mysterious death of that family member. Each story brings the player to a different gameplay experience, which makes me move from surprise to surprise. There is no experience like I expected, all of which are astonishingly enthralling with engaging storytelling, incorporating such rich gameplay.

What Remains of Edith Finch always made me enjoy the experience. Developers always know how to create attraction with players. You can hardly imagine how the next story will lead you or be prepared to accept it. For example, there is a story told by a young late-family member, who takes the player into the first-person view. It’s like a dream, this part of the game not only bends, but also completely removes the laws of nature. In the first place, you roam the rooftops, and after a few seconds you jump down to the bottom of the sea and then quickly move to the ground. The excellent gameplay design of the development team made me initially play the game, but ended up completely immersed in it, ending up only when the credits screen was over.

Although each character’s story is about death, how storytelling creates a sense of how beautiful their life is. Not only that, sometimes it’s just a very personal story, which makes you feel very familiar. But when the story ends, it’s time to witness the last moments of their lives, which make me feel a little bit abrupt. A few seconds ago was still happy, but a few seconds later the character was gone. Life is short. Even when the Giant Sparrow developer tried to create a bit of poetry in the death of every character, that feeling was still so bad.

The graphics of the game are quite impressive. The environment inside and outside the house has scenes and moments that make you amazed, with high levels of detail for an indie game. However, the graphics are not in the “real” direction, which is somewhat “fantasy”, evoking more imagination. Even the sound is the same. I recommend you to play What Remains of Edith Finch with a dedicated headset or sound system. Otherwise, you will miss the footsteps on the trail, the creaking of the old house, or even the sound of the waves breaking into the shore, very real. They all make for a perfect listening experience, immersing the player into an enigmatic and exciting experience that appeals to Finch players.

Another commendable aspect that many games pay very little attention to is the voice. Thankfully, this was done so well and I was really pleased with the result. Edith is voiced by Valerie Rose Lohman, giving a clear sense of character as a young, intelligent and curious girl. Of course, other voice actors do a good job of them, but Lohman impresses me the most.

What Remains of Edith Finch, however, still has an unfortunate and irritating problem throughout the experience. At the beginning of the game, when you first approached the house, there was a sharp drop in frame rate. In the later moving parts, this problem often occurs. Not to the extent of ruining the experience, but enough to make players feel uncomfortable every time. On the other hand, the design of the Finch family feels more structured than practical, but this is not a big deal or a nuisance.

For a fairly short amount of time, you may want to replay the game as soon as it’s over to review the content. Just about two hours into this remarkable story has left me with mixed feelings about birth and death. Life is too short, and life is just a blink of an eye.

What Remains of Edith Finch is only released on PlayStation 4 and Windows. The PC configuration requires an Intel® Core ™ i3 2125 3.3 GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 750 / AMD Radeon 7790 GPU, and 5GB free space.
