amazon Astell & Kern AK100 reviews
As compact as the third generation Apple iPod Nano, the iRiver AK100 player can play lossless quality 24bit / 192kHz or turn it into a DAC decoder.
The AK100 is an audio Hi-Fi device with clear, detailed audio quality. The full name of this player is iRiver Astell & Kern AK100. It is the first pocket music player to reproduce the original sound (like the studio) thanks to Astell & Kern’s Mastering Quality Sound (MQS) technology.
AK 100 is about the size of Apple’s third-generation iPod Nano, but thicker. However, the shell of the machine is made of solid aluminum. The back is coated with the Astell & Kern logo embedded in the same as Apple iPhone 4 / Apple iPhone 4S. IPS technology supports touch-sensitive controls for music playback. The swivel button on the side is quite large, metal.
IRiver AK100 supports up to 2 microSD card slots (up to 32 GB), alongside an internal memory of 32 GB, which is suitable for large lossless music playback. Compared to other Hi-Fi Digital-to-Analog Player (DAP) players, the AK100 is neat but sound-efficient. IRiver integrates with Wolfson’s DAC WM8740 audio codec to enable 24-bit / 192 kHz audio output. Users can use Optical as the input signal, turning the AK100 into a compact Digital Analog Converter (DAC). The AK100 player can also do DAC via USB.
In addition to formats like MP3, WMA, OGG, ACC, AK100 can play lossless formats like WAV, FLAC and APE. The handset has a capacity of 2,000 mAh, continuous lossless playback of 10 hours, and continuous MP3 playback of up to 20 hours.

The compact AK100, fitting the hands of the grown-up and sure enough. To hear the AK100 test, the Test Lab uses Hifiman HE400 headphones and the Focal Spirit One. Connect your AK100 player to your PC, back up 4 MP3s from your PC to the AK100. These are two Bach’s Preludes & Fugues that Alfredo Sánchez transcribed and play on the classical guitar. The AK100 earphones test directly with the headset, immediately see the presence of the AK100 is reasonable as it handles and plays much better than normal PC music, playing MP3 files not inferior to good CD players. Headphones are output via headphones. Tongue flipping, detail, square, harmony, lively.
Listen to Chapter I of the Beethoven Moonlight Sonata, translated by Richard Clayderman and played on the piano with a light orchestra, the Test Lab saw the level of detail of the AK 100 worth: three strings of bass, mid, treble, especially treble Very bright and smooth. Both the AK100’s dynamic range is good, and every little change in the performance is immediately apparent.
On the touch screen interface, AK helps the listener sort out tracks by titles such as Songs, Albums, Artists, Genies, Folders, And MQS (additional equipment required as mentioned above). As a digital music player, the AK100 lets you set up a timeless “waiting list” and that’s its advantage over conventional music players. Continuing with light music such as Cha Cha Cha, listening to the drumbeat, the whistling sound, the electric guitar solo sublimation, Test Lab found the sound really filtered.
In light music songs such as Taylor Switt’s Beautiful Eyes, not to mention the support for the AK100 to play the standard 24bit, 192kHz, Test Lab found that the AK also supports vocals better than regular PCs. Play a good CD player. The AK100’s unique handling of digital music files is crystal clear and reliable because of its simplicity and ease of operation (not as common in case of multi-threaded system deployments). That makes the listening become reassuring, interesting.
