Sound

To mention AKG, I will think of harmonious, sharp, and easy listening. The expensive headsets to the K420 for just over $50 are sound very serious; well done.

Bass

Because it is On-ear, not closed, so the bass is not the strength of the K420; the bass is quite a loss. And one thing to note is that the K420 is semi-open, so the bass is not bouncing from the headphones. But it must be said that what AKG has done is very excellent. The bass is fine, not too much, not too little. If the scale is from 1 to 10, 5 is the most moderate; then I will hit bass K420 at level 4. The reproduction of bass sound is good, round, impacts well.

I like the AKG midrange in this On-ear, concentrating and not overflowing, not pulling the tail, just fit in a beat. That is very good; if the tail pulls out a bit more than the metal, the rock genre can not play. Bass is very compact, quite good pressure but not fatigue.

Sub-bass deep but light, not too long, not pull the tail too long. That’s enough for me; if sub-bass is heavier, it will feel heavy.

The K420’s bass is very general; most people who listen to the music play most types of music without feeling missing. Another thing to say is that the K420 is not over-ear the whole beam, so the bass can not create air around the ears; some heavy air overcast the K420 can not play perfectly.

Mid

Mid K420 is slightly thin, just a little bit! A hard, neutral medium, not too sweet, bright, and very sticky. Mid AKG is quite different from mid-ATH; ATH is slightly sweet, AKG makes it thin and clean. Mid K420 mainly hits the high mid to create a feeling of light; listening to unfamiliar will be somewhat dazzling. And this also has the disadvantage of it, if listening to some of the “sensitive” with YS Si Ting’s sib and for high vol, you will see mid dazzling and somewhere there is a sib phenomenon! That does not happen much, not ominous, but still. Depending on who, the mid-K420 will match ATH or vice versa.

I have to admit that the mid-K420 is easier to hear, more comfortable than most ATH headphones.
