On a very coincidental occasion, I had the chance to try the AMD R9 290X – one of the sharpest rods at the moment. Since this is a sample of the original AMD design, it is not widely available in the market so I will not review the details. This article is only for “show” and “boast” benchmark.

Manufactured on a 28 nm process, the Hawaii GPU is packed with 6.2 billion transistors, 2816 Shader Units and 512 bit memory interface. The R9 290X is equipped with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory – ready for full HD resolution and multi-pattern debugging. The original AMD clock rate is set to 1000/1250 MHz. Custom versions of the manufacturers are overclocked a bit higher.

First impression of the card is: long and heavy terrible! This is the longest graphics card I have ever used, up to 28 cm. With this length, the chassis designed specifically for Gaming can fit.

Despite its size, the density of components on the circuit is still very thick, showing the level of a high-end product.

The switch switches between Quiet Mode and Uber Mode (performance priority, OC support).

The card uses the squirrel cage thermal design. This design has the advantages of tunneling but low cooling performance and high noise level. The custom versions come from the manufacturers are redesigned smooth and efficient heat sink.

Because there is no big screen, this part I only test games on 1920 x 1080 resolution, of course the highest setting, 4xMSAA antialiasing (if any). The Sniper Elite V2 features Supersampling – the highest level of 4x.

With 8899 Fire Strike scores in 3DMark 2013, my system is rated as equal to FutureMark’s GTX Titan running system.

Even for the two worst hardware killers, Crysis 3 and Metro: Last Light, the system still glides on smoothly with the frame even at the highest setting. The Sniper Elite V2 has the option of a 4x Supersampling – that is, the image is rendered four times (3840 x 2160) and shrunk to Full HD for increased smoothness, with this mode the Sniper Elite V2 heavier than Crysis 3 killer.
