amazon ASUS AIMESH reviews
Setup process
The setup of AiMesh is very simple. First, you only need to reset both routers, then set up the primary router as you normally would, including connecting to a modem, setting up a WiFi name and password.
After setting up the main router, just press a button in the setup that the system will find the node and add it to the network
To add an AiMesh node, just turn on the other router, then go to Network Map settings, AiMesh on the main router to find the node. The process of setting up the node is then done by the software itself, the user does not need to do anything further.
The setup process is very fast, only takes about 15 minutes
The whole process of setting up from the beginning only takes about 15 minutes, the setup is also quite simple. When you need to update the firmware, you just need to access the interface of the router that is able to update both routers.
The minus sign of AiMesh compared to other systems is that you need the computer to access the web console the easiest, while most mesh systems now support setup through an application.
Assess the quality of actual use
To assess the coverage and speed in reality, we installed the AiMesh system at a house of 60 m2 consisting of 3 floors, each floor has 2 rooms with stairs in the middle, in addition there is more yard in front of an area of about 20 m2.
The main router connected to the modem is located at N1, the other node is located on the second floor to connect to the primary node. The evaluation site uses the FPT F2 fiber optic cable, which has a theoretical rate of 55 Mbps. We measure the strength, network speed and stability with the Oppo Find X.
To check the strength of waves, we use the WiFi Analyzer application on Android. On the router you can set SSID (network name) for each band. 2.4GHz band has the advantage of coverage, but if you want to have the highest speed then users should choose the connection on the 5GHz band.
Although only two nodes, the WiFi signal in the house is always good, never drops below -60 dBm with 2.4GHz. It can be said that each router is a high-end device, many antennas with wide coverage, so when combined together enough to cover a much wider area than the experience space.
In addition, the 5GHz frequency band is always below -80 dBm, which is enough to ensure connectivity and speed are unaffected. That is shown in the network connection speed assessment.
To test the network speed, we use the Speedtest application, to manually select the server and evaluate the download / upload speed at the points.
When connected to the 5GHz band, Wi-Fi speeds almost always peaked, only slightly lower at T1, which is also the point where the two most broadcast. So, if you use smartphones, laptops with 5GHz support, users can be assured of connection and reach maximum speed at every point in the house.
However, with the 2.4GHz band, the results are not as uniform as before. The highest speed is only guaranteed near the router (point T6, the same router room). At the node point (T5) and downstream near the router (T3, T4) the speed reaches about 80% maximum, while the remaining points only about 50 – 70%.

The cause of the drop in speed is probably due to the more common 2.4GHz band on WiFi transmitters, and we can not select a broadcast channel that does not coincide with neighboring devices. In fact, most smartphones, new networked devices are equipped with 5GHz band, only the old device or cheap smartphone is limited to 2.4GHz.
To test connectivity and roaming, we use the device to move through all points. With a real-world review, we played a PUBG game and watched a YouTube video at 1080p resolution, then went through the points to see if the machine had lost the connection.
Both games and YouTube videos are smoothly processed, without losing frames as they travel through the rooms, rooms in the house. This is a plus from the extension solution, as you will have to manually disconnect your old access point and connect to a nearby access point, otherwise the device will remain connected to the access point. until the connection is completely lost, although the wave strength may be very small.
Next, we use the Ping Tools application, which pings continuously to Google.com and moves through the points. After all the points in the room with about 3 minutes, the machine only missed 3 packets. Thus, it can be seen that when used in practice, the AiMesh system supports smooth transition, low latency so it almost does not affect the use.
Conclude
AiMesh is a very interesting solution for Asus. Instead of having to buy a new set of devices to set up a mesh network, users who are using the Asus router just need to add a new router to create a system with more coverage and more importantly the ability to transition, utilize Advantages of mesh networks.
In addition, the main functions of the router remain the same, so if you need network management features, the security of the router, this will be the best choice for the user. In the opposite direction, the Asus installation interface is still a bit more complicated and it’s best to use a computer to set up, while most mesh networks use smartphone applications.
During the actual use, AiMesh system also provides the speed of connection through the 2.4Ghz band is less impressive. As we mentioned above, this will only affect the old, cheap equipment. In order to optimize the network speed, users can consider connecting the nodes with cables instead of the wireless connection.
At present, AiMesh is only supported on mid-to-high devices. In the coming time, when Asus launches compact and cost-effective transmitters, this will be a remarkable choice.
