Design

The ROG Swift PG279QM has a full-screen look at the front with 8mm thin bezels around the top and side edges and a 21mm band at the bottom with the shiny metal ROG logo. You can barely see the power LED at the bottom, but you’ll find large control buttons and an OSD joystick around the back. The base has the look of all other ROG monitors, with a twist, wide feet, and a copper border.

Around the back, there’s a large ROG logo that lights up with a multitude of colors and effects. RGB colors are controlled in the OSD and Asus’ Aura Sync app. Here you can also see the controls, the joystick, and the lighting effects that can be turned off if you want.

The edges are rounded but they don’t look thin at all. The panel is deeper than most, at about 3.5 inches. Solid stone kickstand with full of handy features: 100mm height adjustment, 5/20 degree tilt, and 25-degree side swivel. You can also rotate the panel 90 degrees to portrait mode.

Connectivity options include a single DisplayPort 1.4 operating up to 240Hz with HDR, G-Sync, and 8-bit color. Three HDMI 2.0 ports operate up to 144Hz. Efficiency

The Swift PG279QM’s area blurring combined with impressive color saturation makes every detail and texture very clear.

Used as a general productivity monitor, the Swift PG279QM shines equally. This is one of the few HDR monitors that doesn’t suffer from color distortion on Windows monitors. I don’t recommend turning on HDR all the time if you’re going to be editing SDR photos or videos. But for word processing or spreadsheets, it adds a bit of brightness without becoming too harsh or oversaturated. The only problem is that you can’t lower the brightness when working in the dark.

It’s also great to have some level of control over HDR images. All available picture modes (Game Visual) are available, as well as contrast and color temperature. Most HDR monitors lock their picture options and assume you’ll be happy with the resulting image. With Asus ROG, users have the power to choose and that’s a rare thing. Also, there is a selectable gamut option, but another unusual feature. SDR content will display I. sRGB and it shows by default.

This technology is already available on larger screens, and we already feel the high price tag it attracts.
