Design and Build Quality

The ASUS Vivobook S 15 (S5507) presents a premium design through its lightweight structure which maintains strong construction standards. The Vivobook S series belongs to the Vivobook S series which ASUS recently updated by introducing a more upscale design style.

The complete chassis construction consists of metal materials which display a silver finish. The single color option available to customers contains this specific shade according to ASUS. The product achieves a lower thickness than its rivals who offer similar screen dimensions while matching the 15-inch MacBook Air from Apple.

The Vivobook S 15 delivers a premium experience through its design elements yet it falls short of matching the premium experience offered by Dell XPS and MacBook Air devices which directly compete with ASUS Zenbook products. The current Zenbook models achieve a performance design balance which leads to a thermal design power output of approximately 28 watts. The Vivobook chassis was selected by ASUS because its 45 watt thermal design power allows complete performance of the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chip which will be explained later in the document.

ASUS has developed lightweight products through its design innovations which include a 180-degree lay-flat hinge and complete port options which serve to enhance product usability according to research.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The ASUS Vivobook S 15 (S5507) keyboard design presents challenges which make it impossible to create an accurate assessment. The design functions properly because it includes a complete numpad yet its aesthetic appearance falls short of pleasing results. A design assessment which includes the numpad should use a centered layout because it produces a more balanced outcome.

The silver keycaps can also make characters harder to read in certain lighting conditions. The single-zone RGB backlighting system provides a solution to this problem. The keyboard lacks any extraordinary features which would make it stand out as remarkable.

The touchpad provides a sufficient solution to the problem which exists. The touchpad serves its purpose because it contains a large glass surface which enables users to perform taps swipes and gestures with their touch.

ASUS Lumina OLED Display

ASUS maintains its preference for OLED displays which provide superior visual performance through their laptop display technology. The Vivobook S 15 (S5507) uses a 16:9 aspect ratio which creates a disappointing design because it makes the lower bezel area appear excessively wide according to users.

The display maintains its high resolution of 2880 × 1660 together with a 120Hz refresh rate which produces clear and smooth video results.

Performance

The ASUS Vivobook S 15 (S5507) tested here is the highest configuration, featuring:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite 78-100 (12 cores, 12 threads)
  • Adreno 331 GPU
  • Hexagon NPU (45 TOPS)
  • 32GB LPDDR5x 8446 MHz RAM
  • 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD

The device operates at a TDP of 50W, which represents the highest power limit for Snapdragon X Elite devices that have been released until now.

The system requires users to download updates through Windows Update and MyASUS software after their purchase. MyASUS enables users to control TDP settings through the following options:

  • Full Speed: up to 50W
  • Performance: 45W
  • Standard: 35W
  • Whisper: 20W

Standard mode provides users with the most effective combination of operational performance together with quiet operation and extended battery duration.

The primary advantage of this product is that its operational efficiency stays the same regardless of whether the device operates on battery or AC power which Intel and AMD laptops have not yet achieved.

The system has weak capabilities in delivering gaming performance. The experience is quite poor compared to similarly sized laptops running on Intel or AMD platforms, with frequent stuttering and compatibility issues. The Snapdragon X Elite platform will receive updates which will bring better performance improvements.

Application Compatibility

Users need to understand which software applications work with this new ARM-based Windows platform. Qualcomm has official lists which show the applications and games that are supported by their platform.

To determine whether an app runs natively or via emulation, open Task Manager → Details tab → check the Architecture column (x86, x64, or ARM64).

Common applications perform well:

  • Microsoft Office 365 and EVKey (Vietnamese typing) run smoothly
  • Zoom works reliably

Creative users can access different software solutions:

  • Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom have native ARM versions
  • Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Premiere Pro are newly available on Windows ARM

Cooling System

The laptop uses a dual-fan, dual-heat-pipe cooling system which operates like the cooling system found in newer Vivobook S models to maintain 45-50W thermal design power.

Due to current software limitations, precise temperature monitoring isn’t available, so observations are based on real-world experience:

  • Light tasks: slightly warm chassis, very quiet fans
  • Heavy tasks: noticeably warmer, but not uncomfortable; fans become audible

Battery Life

The device contains a 70Wh battery system. The results demonstrate impressive performance after testing which shows the results to be among the top three Windows laptop results which would have benefited from a bigger battery.

  • Office work with web surfing at maximum screen brightness and Wi-Fi active continues for more than 10 hours
  • 4K Netflix streaming lasts more than 7 hours
  • Users can work with heavy Photoshop tasks for more than 4 hours

The battery performance shows excellent results since it outperforms most Intel and AMD laptops which we have tested.

Conclusion

ASUS presents an innovative and attractive experience to users through its Vivobook S 15 (S5507) product. Users required the MacBook Air to obtain extended battery life and dependable performance during battery operation. Now devices which use Snapdragon X Elite processors provide both features together with Windows operating system and beautiful ASUS Lumina OLED display.
