At the end of 2021, it seems that EarFun has made changes in the “tactical” of its products. Instead of placing the entire “Free” product line at a lower level than “Air,” these 2 product lines will exist parallel, developing in their direction to serve different purposes.

Its latest product, the EarFun Free Pro 2 pair, shows this very clearly. With a selling price that is slightly higher than previous Free pairs, even on par with the Air Pro 2 pair, what can Free Pro 2 bring?

EarFun’s box has become simpler, with no more large black and yellow patches. For me, this is a good thing, the more details the box has, the more confusing it will be!

Although it is a mid-range headset, EarFun Free Pro 2 does not disappoint in the quality of accessories. In the box, we have three rubber pads, two sets of replacement ear flaps, a USB Type-C charging cord, and a cotton swab to clean the ears!

The strength of the Free line compared to any pair on the market about compactness. The box fits in the palm of your hand, won’t take up much space when put in a pocket or backpack.

It’s compact, but this box is still quite “powerful.” The box gives the headset 24 hours of use, plus the 6 hours that the headset brings will increase the duration to 30 hours. Besides the ability to charge wirelessly according to the Qi standard, not bad at all!

If you were a user of the previous Free Pro version, you would realize that when you put the headset in the box, the company’s logo on both sides of the headset will be opposite. This problem has already been resolved in the Free Pro 2 version; when placed in the EarFun text box on both sides, it will face the user.

The general design of Free Pro 2 is an upgrade of the Free Pro version. The entire headset is made of a plastic block with no cutouts, covered with a silver color that looks a lot like aluminum.

The touch feature remains the same, allowing us to change songs, receive calls, adjust the volume, enter Gaming Mode with low latency of 80ms, call virtual assistants and control the most important features of the headset: active noise cancellation (ANC).

Another feature that EarFun never ignores and special with headphones aimed at users who wear sports like the Free Pro 2 is water resistance. This pair of headphones has IPX5 waterproof, not enough for playing water sports, but enough for using at the gym, running, cycling…

But what I like most about the Free Pro 2 is that this pair of headphones is equipped with ANC active noise cancellation and a QuietSmart 2.0 version like the Air Pro 2. At home, I don’t need this feature either because the natural noise cancellation of the headphones is already good, moreover thanks to the unexpected compactness, sometimes I “forget” that I am wearing the Free Pro 2 on my ear!

When going out to noisy places, the ANC noise cancellation feature will come into play, blocking a lot of car horns, speakers, and construction sites. The effectiveness of noise cancellation from EarFun is quite high; only losing to leading brands like Apple and Sony by only one small step is more than enough.

A small drawback of ANC from EarFun is that the ability to filter the wind is not very high; this is the point that the company will need to refine and upgrade shortly.

In terms of sound quality, this pair of headphones will still follow the general direction of EarFun, which is bass-oriented sound quality, creating a rich and thick sound to suit those who listen to exciting music. Therefore, the most powerful performance band of Free Pro 2 will be the bass range!

The bass of Free Pro 2 has also been refined compared to its previous pairs, including Free Pro and Air Pro. The amount of bass is still very much; listen to songs with thick drums like Bella Poarch’s Build a B*tch, and the bass will “jump” right in front of you. But every time it emerges, the bass has more certainty, more compact than the previous generation. That helps to improve the sound of the bass, along with not letting it infringe on the mid and treble.

Bass does not completely encroach on the mid, making this band appear brighter than before. This midrange seems suitable for young songs, with the singer’s voice being adjusted to auto-tune a bit. Although bright, when it comes to high-mid, Free Pro 2 also has a moderation never to have sibilance.

I’m a folk music listener, so I want a more natural mid-range; on the contrary, the performance of the headphones will also “respect” the singer’s voice of Pop, Hip Hop songs more. Finally, the treble range has a fairly average volume and performs well in making the sound lighter without being drowned out by the bass.

Not perfect but too good for the mid-range price

In the testing process, I still found the weaknesses of EarFun Free Pro 2 so that it does not become perfect, such as the fact that it has a higher price than previous versions, the bass will be much with some tastes music, or wind resistance can still be improved.

But these weaknesses are too small for what we get. That must be said to be an all-in-one pair of headphones, superior in many ways compared to its price range. EarFun has once again redefined how a mid-range True Wireless headset should be designed!
