Eufy’s RoboVac 30C robot vacuum is a great improvement over the original, offering app and voice control for just $30 more.

We like Eufy RoboVac 30$ 269.99, despite its rather basic nature as a robot vacuum. However, the newer 30C model commands a higher price for $30 more because of app control and voice assistant compatibility. If you are indeed choosing, then the 30C model priced at $299.99 is worth buying. For 70 dollars less, however, Ecovacs Deebot N79S will offer you the same options that 30C gives.

Design

The RoboVac 30C almost looks like its older sibling, the RoboVac 30. With a diameter of 12.8 inches, and only 2.9 inches tall, the slim and compact profile guarantees that it should fit effortlessly underneath any low-profile furniture. The top is a tempered glass; here, the pattern is a faint bronze hue, interrupted by subtle color splashes within the black framework.

An orange flashing light will be displayed by the start/stop button when charging; it glows blue when charged; and glows solid orange when the battery is low. In case of an error or if stuck, a red flashing light appears. The Wi-Fi status light gently flashes blue when the device is awaiting a connection; it flashes blue briefly when it is connecting to your router, and glows blue when it is connected.

The front bumper houses the infrared sensor of the vacuum cleaner. At the opposite end, you’ll find the 0.6-liter trash can and the release button. The bottom contains two main grooves, a rotating wheel, the main roller brush, dual rotating brush, brush guard, charging contact, anti-drop sensor and lobby sensor, main power switch, and battery compartment.

The RoboVac 30C comes with a charging dock and remote control. You can use the remote control to return the vacuum to the charging base, adjust the suction power, start or stop cleaning, control navigation, and start different cleaning modes.

The box also includes two AAA batteries for the remote, a power adapter, two extra brushes, a cable tie, adhesive tape, an additional filter, an additional foam filter, two rolls of strips limit where each strip measures 6.6 feet long.

Setup and app installation; voice control

Due to its accompanying remote control, an app is unnecessary for controlling the RoboVac 30C, but the app does provide scheduling and voice control capabilities. Here’s how one gets started:

Download the app EufyHome (Android/iOS) and switch on the main power from the bottom of the vacuum.
Create a user account in the app and tap on the upper right ‘+’ sign to add the RoboVac to your profile.
The application will have you follow the steps in order to connect your vacuum to the home Wi-Fi network.

At the top of the app’s home screen, the vacuum’s battery life (percentage) and status (charging, cleaning, standby) are to be found. The start/stop button and steering wheel are located in the middle. Even though the app controls are handy, they do not navigate the vacuum nearly as smoothly as the physical remote could. In tests, the 30C vacated its area whenever controlled with a remote instead of with a phone.

When choosing a cleaning mode, tap the Mode button. This will allow you to select Auto, Spot, Edge, and Fast. In Auto and Fast, you may also set the suction strength to Standard, Maximum, or BoostIQ. BoostIQ increases suction when it detects thick carpet or hard-to-clean clutter.

The Schedule button lets you schedule cleaning for one specific date and time, after which the vacuum will clean automatically. The Home button brings the vacuum back to the charging dock, and the Find button causes it to beep so that you can locate it.

While the app is easy to use, sometimes the notifications are confusing and inconsistent. Regardless of how or where the vacuum got stuck during testing, I got the same message combining several warnings: its drop sensor was dirty, and it was hanging from a ledge or trapped. Some days, I just did not receive any notice. Instead, I realized it was stuck when it started beeping.

As stated previously, RoboVac 30C can work with Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. After connecting the device to any assistant of your choice, you can start or stop vacuuming, send the vacuum to or bring it back from the dock, and perform other actions using your voice.

Performance

The RoboVac 30C moves well around and under furniture. In testing, it moved quickly around chairs, tables, and desks. Thanks to the low height of the vacuum, it can also pick up dust particles below the vents. I made sure to tie the cord away from any areas where wires and computer chargers can’t move off the floor using boundary strips. Every time 30C reaches a marked point, it immediately recognizes it as a no-go zone and returns to clean another area.

30C has strong suction, easily removes dirt and hair on both tiles and carpets. It even smoked a few staples with no problem. While Standard mode works well on hardwood and tile, I recommend BoostIQ if most of your floor is carpet. 30C is very quiet in all three modes; it’s hard to hear it work unless it works for you.

I tested how well it sucks up different materials on carpets and wood using Standard suction. It inhales most of the mess with larger items like Cap’n Crunch cereal but leaves a piece or two on both carpet and tile. Cat poop and sand need to go through a few times to clean the carpet and leave some debris behind fully. It works better on tile, fully absorbing both materials. Unfortunately, the double brush scattered cat poop litter all over the floor and created an even bigger mess.

30C lasted about 90 minutes in the test before the battery ran low (BoostIQ mode reduces this to about 50 minutes). Meanwhile, the N79S lasted a bit longer, at about 100 minutes.

Conclusion

The $299.99 Eufy RoboVac 30C is a great upgrade over the original. Not only is it quiet, compact, and powerful, app control and voice assistant compatibility are welcome additions for just $30 more.
