Due to printing images on film instead of conventional paper to print photos from Instax SHARE bit nostalgic style, similar to photographs from aircraft quality Instax mini 90 NEO CLASSIC biareview newly introduced recently. Compared to the phone screen, film printed with much higher brightness, diminish somewhat detailed picture. In addition, pigment printed film from SP-1 is being applied on many image editing applications but can also be a drawback in the eyes of the believers digital photos.
Design and Build
The Instax SHARE is a small printer that sits in a bag or a large coat pocket. It’s made of plastic and feels sturdy enough for daily use. There’s no screen, and the only controls are a power button and a reprint button, so all the work happens in the phone app. That keeps it simple, and it also means the printer is useless without your phone.
Features
App. The companion app (iOS and Android) connects to the printer over Wi-Fi. You pick a photo, edit it and send it to print. The tools are basic: filters, brightness, cropping, plus templates for text and borders.
Prints. The printer uses Instax Mini film and makes credit-card-sized prints. Colors are warm and a little soft, with the look instant film has always had. They won’t match a photo lab, but that isn’t the point.
Speed. It exposes a print in about 10 seconds. The image then takes another minute or so to develop, as with any instant film.
Social media. The app is said to let you print from Instagram and Facebook. Check that this still works, because app features change often.
Battery. It has a rechargeable battery rated at roughly 100 prints per charge, which is enough for a party or a day out.
Using It
Setup is short. You turn on the printer, connect your phone to its Wi-Fi in the app, and start printing. LED lights show battery level and connection status. Note that the printer makes its own Wi-Fi network, so your phone drops off your home network while you print, and you can’t browse or use other apps online at the same time. Some owners find the connection needs to be redone now and then.
Downsides
Film cost. Instax Mini film isn’t cheap, and the price per print adds up quickly if you print a lot.
No screen. Everything goes through the phone app.
Print size. Prints are credit-card sized, which is too small for anything you’d frame.
Wi-Fi. Connecting can be fiddly, and you lose your phone’s normal internet connection while you’re printing.
How It Compares
HP Sprocket: uses ZINK paper, so there’s no film or ink to buy. Prints are 2 x 3 inches. The paper is cheaper per print than Instax film, though colors are usually less rich.
Polaroid ZIP: also uses ZINK and makes 2 x 3 inch prints. It costs less than the Instax SHARE, and print quality is close to the Sprocket’s.
Verdict
The Instax SHARE is a good choice if you want real instant-film prints from your phone photos and don’t mind paying for film. It’s easy to use, portable, and prints quickly. If cost per print matters most, a ZINK printer such as the Sprocket or ZIP is cheaper to run. If you want bigger prints, look at a different format.
