amazon HP Envy 13t reviews
High-end design
HP did not hide the intention of putting their latest Envy 13t into the high-end Ultrabook segment, which is reflected in the glossy silver case. There is absolutely no cut of the material – the entire shell of Envy 13t is made of magnesium and aluminum. Thanks to the high-grade metal casing, the Envy 13t, though not made of solid lining, still feels very firmly on hand. The lid is simple with the chrome HP logo engraved on the aluminum shell. However, for some reason the company put a thin, long plastic strip on the top of the lid. In particular, the upper lid area of the hinges are rounded to the thickness of the body so that each time the screen is opened, the keyboard is lifted, tilted slightly towards the user for a better typing experience.
Opening the Envy 13t, the first impression was a chiclet keyboard with silver buttons that matched the color of the case. The two sides of the keyboard are quite loud speakers using the technology of the famous audio company Bang & Olufsen. In the lower right corner is a fingerprint sensor. Do not use rubber coated as rival Dell XPS 13, shell area around the keyboard of the Envy also cool aluminum, creating luxury and not easily degraded. However, one detail that made the Envy 13t’s superior looks lose significant points, and made it outperform the Dell XPS 13, which was a dense screen border. With Infinity Edge technology, the Dell XPS 13’s ultra-thin bezel makes it “sexy” than the Envy 13t, although HP uses better material than Dell.
With such a thick bezel, the dimensions of the HP Envy 13t (DxRxC: 326.39 x 226.06 x 12.95 mm) are also larger than the Dell XPS 13 (304.8 x 200.6 x 15 , 24mm) although it is thinner to 2.29mm. With a weight of just 1.27kg, the HP Envy 13t is not a burden for those who are constantly on the move. The number of connectors is enough for most users, with three USB ports (including one 3.0 port), an HDMI port, an SD card slot and a 3.5mm audio jack. Divide the two sides by the body.
Keyboard, touchpad and fingerprint sensor
On the Envy 13t, HP has designed backlit chiclet keyboards with large buttons and the space between them is large, making text typing quicker and easier. However, compared to the competition, the bounce rate of each key on Envy 13t is slightly weak, this can be good or bad depending on the user.
Below the keyboard is a touchpad up to 10.92 cm in width but only 5.33 cm tall. This size makes Envy 13 rollovers much limited. It is worth mentioning that HP can completely increase the height of the touchpad, but they did not do so and left too much space above the keyboard, which only has the source button and the Bang & Olufsen logo. In addition, the surface of the touchpad is also a bit too friction, causing the finger to “hiss” when moving the pointer.
At the bottom right corner of the keyboard, HP arranged a fingerprint sensor. Like previous laptops, this sensor requires users to scan their fingers over to read fingerprints, rather than touching them at different angles on the phone. The process of “registering” fingerprints is simple and fast with pre-installed SimplePass software. With each finger, users only need to scan once to save fingerprints. The Simple Pass application also allows the use of fingerprints to quickly login to websites via pre-saved passwords.
The screen and sound are very good
Featuring Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, Envy 13t’s screen is a highlight of its brilliant color reproduction capability. See the launch trailer of Forza Horizon 2 with Envy 13t, the skyline changing from sunlight to rain is very clear. At the same time, the distinctive orange color of the McLaren P1 supercar is also accurately displayed with varying shades of orange under light conditions. The viewing angle of the screen is also very good and only slightly discolored when the eyes look almost identical to the plane containing it. However, the brightness of HP Envy 13 screen is not equal to the competition. The 90% level on the envy is only about the same as about 75% of the Dell XPS 13. In addition, if the black is reproduced deeper the screen will be more perfect.
With a B & O speakerphone, the Envy 13t’s sound experience is pretty good compared to the competing Ultrabook rivals. Sitting in a quiet room and bursting into rapper rapper Rick Ross’s Carol City, the pair of symmetrical speakers on either side of the keyboard provided clear, high-pitched sound, roughly equivalent to some 15-inch laptops. The background bass was deep and clear, while Rick Ross’s deep, rap voice was reproduced in great detail and true. Continue listening to The Prototypes with Amy Pearson’s vocal, Do not Let Me Go, while Envy’s loudspeaker continues to show off piano and electronic instruments. However, with this track, Envy’s loudspeakers have been showing signs of lightness at low rhythmic pitches. Envy also plays a minor role in the mini-movie theater, featuring the Forza Horizon 2 trailer, the crashed car chimes or the car’s sound reproduced via live speakers.

Performance is okay
The HP Envy 13t version mentioned in this test is code-named 13-d049tu with a basic configuration of 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-6200U processor (the latest 14nm Skylake), Intel HD Graphics 520 integrated GPU (1 7GB of shared memory from RAM), 4GB of RAM and a 256GB solid-state drive. With this configuration, Envy 13 is able to handle common tasks and multitasking such as Office document processing, web browsing at the same time with several tabs or running Photoshop CS5 … Measure SSD speed with Atto benchmark software. The HP Envy 13t has a very good read speed – about 500MB/s, but its write speed is only about 280MB/s.
Like many other Ultrabooks, the HP Envy 13t is only suitable for some light gaming. With Asphalt 8 Airbone – a cross platform racing game (download directly from the Microsoft Store app store), the machine can only reach frame rates of 25-30 fps. With Battlefield 4 launched in 2013 at a resolution of only 1,366 x 768 and the lowest settings, the frame rate is about 33 fps, this image detail is hard to satisfy the professional gamers.
A lightweight Ultrabook for the mobility user, the HP Envy 13t only achieves average battery life. Continuously broadcast a 720p HD video through the VLC application with 50% speaker volume and 80% screen brightness, which runs for 5 hours. For ease of comparison, the Asus ZenBook UX303UA reached 5.5 hours with maximum brightness and 50% volume. With 80% screen brightness, when running Microsoft Edge browser, the machine can surf the web continuously about 7.5 hours. This is an average result, especially when the Envy 13t’s main rivals, the Dell XPS 13 and the Apple MacBook Air 13, have impressive battery life.
In terms of design and performance alone, the HP Envy 13t is a fairly stable Ultrabook. The machine is sleek, high quality and finished materials, fast and stable operation, beautiful screen, impressive sound and sensitive fingerprint sensor.
