Porsche Design Book One

Porsche Design has worked with Quanta, Intel and even Microsoft to make Book One. This is a praiseworthy effort when a German supercar manufacturer, from the design of the phone, headphones to the laptop through.

The heart of this gorgeous unit is its latest 7GHz Core i7 chip, 16GB RAM and 512GB hard drive. It also comes with a 13.3-inch QHD display. As a manufacturer only for high-end customers, Porsche Design has only one version for a very high price: nearly 2500 USD. Although this is extremely expensive compared to similar hardware, but users will enjoy the advanced facilities that it brings, such as the hinges.

Unlike the Surface Book, Porsche Design took one step further to completely rebuild the laptop’s hinges. Looks like they will work like a gearbox on a car, and it’s made of polished metal to enhance the beauty of the laptop. It can fold up to 360 degrees and disassemble the screen to turn into a tablet.

Because of the design of the special hinges, the screen is much closer to the keyboard. Even Porsche Design carefully adds a small piece of rubber at the hinges to make the gears do not scratch the laptop. Everyone agrees that the hinges are very solid and smooth. Certainly Porsche Design beat Microsoft in the design.

Book One is equipped with a USB-C port, two USB ports and a microSD card slot. We do not have a SD card reader on the camera, but we will have a USB-C port. There is also a USB-C port with Thunderbolt support and a headphone port. In particular, users can log in with Windows Hello via an integrated camera on the machine.

In terms of weight, both Book One and Surface Book are similar. The touch pen of the machine uses technology from Wacom and it can be attached by a magnet on the right side of the screen. Porsche Design promises the machine will last up to 14 hours, and about 3 hours if used in tablet mode.

Performance

Powerhouse Specifications

Under the hood , the Porsche Design Book One is kind of packing serious performance muscle. It runs on an Intel Core i7-7500U processor, teamed up with 16GB of RAM, so it has plenty of “oomph” for pretty demanding workflows like video editing, 3D rendering , and all that multitasking that just never ends. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 takes care of the graphical side pretty efficiently, but lets be real—it s more tuned for everyday productivity than for heavy gaming sessions or high level professional graphics work.

Ergonomic Typing Experience

The Book One includes a backlit keyboard, and honestly the typing feels comfortable enough even after hours. The keys give you good travel along with clear tactile feedback , so long writing streaks stay enjoyable. The trackpad is responsive too, and it works with Windows Precision drivers, which helps a lot with smooth navigation and multi touch gestures , that makes day to day productivity feel a bit more effortless.

In practice you can expect about 8 to 10 hours of use on one single charge during normal day stuff, like web browsing, document editing, and multimedia streaming. It also does fast recharge through its USB Type-C ports so when you are low you can top it up pretty quickly.

Audio and multimedia

Better sound, more presence
The audio side on the Book One is worked on pretty carefully, with stereo speakers tuned with the help of specialists from Burmester Audio. Those speakers make a pretty clear, immersive sound, it kinda feels good for music, films , and even for video calls. Also, with Dolby Audio in the mix the listening feel gets wider, so the output becomes more complete and balanced.

Software and user experience

Premium software pack
This laptop arrives pre-installed with Windows 10 Pro, so you get a solid operating system setup that is familiar, and also secure for work focused users. Porsche Design has added a few extra software touches too, to help with performance, and day to day responsiveness, so things run smoothly from the very first startup.

Security Features

Enhanced Security

Security features include a fingerprint sensor that’s integrated into the power button, which gives a bit more convenience but also a secure, almost reliable way of doing biometric login, along with keeping sensitive data protected. You get this extra layer of security , so it tends to boost user privacy, and honestly it can bring peace of mind too, even if you’re on the move.

Portability and Durability

Lightweight and Tough

With a weight of about 1.53 kg (3.37 lbs), the Book One manages that nice middle ground between portability and durability. It’s light enough to toss into a bag and take around, for business meetings or traveling , without feeling like it’s a burden. At the same time the sturdy aluminum chassis supports long term daily use, and it’s made to handle the typical wear and tear.

Use Cases

Professional and Creative Use

The Porsche Design Book One is kinda aimed at professionals, senior managers, and creative types who care about speed , design, and that flexible feel in their computing gear. The 2 in 1 approach means you can flip pretty smoothly between laptop and tablet orientations , so it really fits for things like client presentations, jotting down notes, doing quick sketching, and even multimedia editing while you’re on the move.
