Not every robot vacuum does a good job of sucking pet hair and removing debris from moderate carpeting. With an impressive 2,600Pa suction capacity, the $499 Proscenic M7 Pro excels. Its strong suction power combined with the HEPA filter creates a robot that not only vacuums well on hard floors and carpets but also helps remove allergens from the air. It comes with a remote, and it supports Alexa voice control and the app. From its companion app, you can initiate and schedule a cleaning job, select specific rooms for it to clean, and set boundary zones for no-go zones. It also works as a basic robotic mop, but its water tank is small to cover a large area in a single pass. Overall though, it offers great vacuuming and a good amount of features for its price point.

Design, features, and battery life

The M7 Pro looks similar to the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI, with a rounded design and a protruding laser sensor at the top. It measures 13.5 inches in diameter and is about 3.75 inches tall. At the bottom, it has two auxiliary brushes and the main roller brush. It boasts 24 sensors, including anti-drop and anti-collision sensors, to avoid obstacles like stairs, map your home, and plan the most efficient cleaning path.

The raised laser sensor, which helps it navigate and map your home, makes the M7 Pro taller than other floor mopping robots I tested, but it will still fit most furniture.

I like that the robot has a high-efficiency air filter (HEPA), which captures allergens from the air. If you have allergies like me, be sure to look for a vacuum with a HEPA filter.

You can control the M7 Pro with the included remote, your phone through the ProscenicHome app (available for Android and iOS), or your voice using Amazon Alexa. You can switch cleaning modes from the app, schedule cleaning sessions, create virtual boundaries for the robot to avoid certain areas, and select specific rooms or areas where you want to vacuum and mop. The app also records cleaning jobs, showing the date and time, duration, and square meters covered (there doesn’t seem to be a way to change this to square feet). You can click on each record to see the exact route map.

The M7 Pro is powered by a 5,200mAh battery that Proscenic says allows for 90 to 150 minutes of cleaning, depending on mode use. Recharging takes about 4 to 4.5 hours.

On the first test run, the M7 Pro covered about 530 square feet in an hour and still had 60% of the battery life left. I ran it in Standard Mode for this first test, but there’s also a Powerful Mode for increased suction power and volume and a Quiet Mode for sensitive ears. In subsequent tests, I noticed that Powerful Mode drains the battery faster than Standard Mode, which is not surprising.

In testing, the M7 Pro cleaned a total of 103 minutes in Standard Mode before dropping to 28% battery and returning to the base station to recharge. I tried running it again to see how long the battery has left, but it said, please wait until fully charged to start another cleaning job.

That’s just average battery life, beating the iRobot Roomba S9+, which lasted only 60 minutes in the test, but falls short of the Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI’s nearly 170 minutes.

Establish

Setting up the M7 Pro is easy. You connect the power cord to the charging dock, plug it in, and place the base against the wall. Proscenic recommends placing the base station about 1.6 feet from objects on either side and 3.9 feet from anything facing anything.

To turn on the robot, press and hold the Power button at the top and the light will turn blue, then tap the Home button to bring the robot to the charging dock. When the robot starts to charge, the light will turn green.

Download the ProscenicHome app, create an account, select Add a device, select the M7 Pro from the list, then press and hold the Power button and the Home button of the M7 Pro simultaneously for 5 seconds to start connecting it to Wi-Fi. Then you enter your Wi-Fi password into the app, go to your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, select the Proscenic device (appears as a network), and then go back to the ProscenicHome app and wait for its finished connection.

I had no problems setting it up and connecting it to my Wi-Fi. It is very simple and intuitive and only takes a few minutes.

Performance

When active, the robot maps your home and its precise cleaning path within the app. A glance at the map shows where it is and all the places it has covered. The app also shows its coverage area, remaining battery, and total cleaning time.

The robot has no problem walking through different types of floors, including carpet, wood. It automatically increases suction to Maximum when it detects carpet, a feature I’ve only seen on more expensive robot vacuums like the $800 Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI. When rolling off the carpet, it will automatically reduce the suction power.

Weaker robot vacuums — like the iLife A9, which has a suction capacity of 1,000Pa — struggle to clean all the debris from medium-quality carpets, but the M7 Pro has no such problem. Thanks to its powerful 2,600Pa suction power. The trade-off is that it’s not the quietest robot vacuum I’ve tested, especially when it comes to carpeting.

Setting up the Area Cleanup in the app is very simple. You choose Custom Area > Add Custom Area, and a box will pop up asking for the area name. Enter the name of the room, press Confirm and a green box will appear on the map. Move the green box to the room you want to label and press Save Temporary Area. You can add up to five Custom Areas.

To clean a labeled area, tap More > Multi-Area Clean, select the room you want to clean, and tap Clean Now. Once I was all set up, the Area Cleanup function worked as advertised; After selecting the rooms I wanted to clean, the robot went right there and started working.

The M7 Pro works well with Alexa voice commands. To set it up, I opened the Alexa app on my phone, then searched for and enabled the ProscenicRobot skill. Then I used my ProscenicHome account credentials to log in, and it was good to go.

All you have to do is say, “Alexa, ask the smart bot to start cleaning,” and the M7 Pro activates right in Auto Mode. You can say, “Alexa, ask the smart bot to stop cleaning” to pause the robot or say, “Alexa, ask the smart bot to start charging” to end the session early.

When done, the M7 Pro successfully returned to the base station on its own. After over 100 minutes of cleaning my floors, its 600ml bucket was filled with dust, pet hair. The floor looks a lot cleaner. The trash can is easy to remove and empty.

Wipe

The M7 Pro works best as a vacuum cleaner, but it can also mop. It comes with a small 110ml water tank, on which you attach a machine washable cleaning cloth. It also comes with a pack of 10 disposable wipes.

Besides the small water tank, the main drawback of the mop is that it doesn’t automatically avoid the carpet. For this reason, it’s best to use Zone Mode when mopping, leaving it in a designated space like your kitchen or bathroom. When used this way, it works fine. I used it to mop my kitchen floors in Zone Mode, and it was looking clean.

Maintenance

Proscenic makes an automatic vacuum cleaner for the M7 Pro that can empty the trash without your help, like the iRobot Roomba s9+ and i7+. As someone allergic to dust, I love the idea of never having to be exposed to it.

Unfortunately, the automatic vacuum cleaner doesn’t come with the M7 Pro—you have to pay $100 more for it. That brings the total price for the robot and automatic vacuum cleaner to $600, still $200 less than the Roomba i7+, the cheapest iRobot model that can empty its trash can.

When I first tested the M7 Pro, the automatic vacuum cleaner was out of stock in the US, but it has since become available, and Proscenic sent me one to test.

The automatic vacuum cleaner is easy to install and use. You swap it out for the standard base station that comes with the M7 Pro, which will recharge the robot and automatically suck up the bin’s contents after each cleaning job.

It is much larger than a standard base station, measuring approximately 10.0 x 8.8 x 13.5 inches (LWH). It comes with a pre-installed dust bag and includes two extras in the bag. Proscenic sells packs of three dust bags for $20.

There is a dust indicator light on the front of the unit, which flashes yellow when the bag is full and needs to be replaced. Proscenic recommends changing the bag every six to eight weeks, but that will depend on how often you use the vacuum.

Over the past two weeks, I’ve run the vacuum about half a dozen times, and the bag still isn’t nearly full. When the robot docks after the cleaning job, the fan of the automatic vacuum cleaner will turn on, it sounds pretty loud for a few seconds—about the volume of an old-fashioned upright vacuum—as it sucks all the debris from the robot’s bin into the dust bag.

During testing, the automatic vacuum cleaner thoroughly emptied the robot’s bin. It successfully sucked up all the dust and hair, leaving only a few larger debris.

If you own or are thinking of buying an M7 Pro, I highly recommend spending the extra $100 on an automatic vacuum cleaner, especially if you have allergies. It significantly cuts down on maintenance.

Without this accessory, you will need to manually empty the trash every time the robot completes a job. Proscenic also recommends cleaning the HEPA filter and rinsing the trash can with water once a week. You should also clean the main roller brush and the auxiliary brush weekly.

Compare and conclude

The Proscenic M7 Pro doesn’t disappoint me when it comes to its battery life or mopping, but with 2,600Pa suction, it’s even stronger than the $1,100 Roomba s9+ (2,500Pa). That makes it a good choice for pet hair and medium-volume carpets, which weaker robot vacuums are often difficult to clean.

The mopping feature is a nice bonus, but I wouldn’t specifically buy an M7 for it. You can mop small spaces like the kitchen or bathroom but may need a little babysitting if you also have carpet in your home. For a more capable vacuum/mop combo robot, I recommend checking out the Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI, which is significantly more expensive than the M7 Pro at $799.99 but has a large water tank excellent battery life, and can automatically avoid carpets when mopping.

Meanwhile, if you don’t have pets and you only have hard floors or low carpets in your home, you don’t necessarily need to spend $499 on a robot vacuum. More affordable options like the $279.99 iLife A9 will get the job done just fine without breaking the bank.
