PSU Corsair SF600 SFX This product line is aimed at the user who loves the compactness of a mini PC. The Corsair SF series is built on the SFX standard, which is smaller than the ATX standard we often see in computer power supplies.

Corsair SF600 SFX has an output of 600W rated 80Plus Gold. The 600-watt power supply will almost satisfy all current Mini PC configurations with discrete graphics

Box and Accessories SF600 SFX

The SF600 SFX’s box is small in size. Smaller than the VS series box. However, as a high-end product, Corsair uses a two-layer box like RMi / HX. The black-and-gold tone remains a hallmark of Corsair’s brand recognition for PSU products

External design

The SFX SF600 has the standard SFX size. Using 92mm cooling fan. The back is embossed stylized and uses a 100% removable cable system

SF600 SFX uses 100% discrete cable system including:

1x 24pin Mainboard (30cm)

1x 4 + 4pin ATX12V (40cm)

2x 6 + 2pin PCIex (40cm)

4x SATA (max 45cm)

4x ATA (max 45cm)

Designed for the mini PC case, the SF600 SFX cable is very short. And certainly can not be used for traditional ATX cases. However, the SFX uses a common Corsair Type 4 cable with the RMx / i HX2017, so it is easy to replace the SFX “zin” cable when needed.

Inside the SFX SF600

SF600 SFX is manufactured by Great Wall (OEM) similar to the TXm series. The interior is very airy, unlike other SFX standard pSUs with a power rating of less than 600W as well as the circuit design LLC.

SF600 SFX Two-layer circuit board and SMD components are welded on both sides, minimizing the size and cooling air flow.

The first EMI filter circuit is welded on a small module that plugs into the AC plug of the power supply. Instead of using a wire to connect to the motherboard, the module is soldered straight to the motherboard. This eliminates unnecessary wiring.

The second EMI filter located next to the GBU1508 (15A) bridge diode is included in the Mosfet radiator for both APFC and PWM. The downstream component is neatly positioned next to the inductors of the APFC circuit

SF600 SFX uses the main power supply Nippon 420V 470uF. The capacitance level can be just enough for a 600W PSU.

The APFC uses a 394 AOK42S60L Mosfet packed in the TO247 format. The PWM floor uses a pair of FCP104N60F mosfets with a power output of 37A.

With the cramped and high working temperature due to the heat dissipation is almost “trimmed”. So Corsair and the Great Wall chose components with much better endurance than the SFX SF600’s rated capacity of 600W.

All SFX control and monitoring ICs are welded to the main circuit board. Including 6 Mosfet line 12V. These 6 Mosfets are heat sinked through a thin piece of aluminum close to the PSU shell

The 5V and 3.3V lines are made from VRM circuits using the dedicated APW7159 IC (2 channels)

Bo modular cable jacks are equipped with multiple solid-state noise filters. SFX SF600 uses mostly solid capacitors to provide stable operation at high temperatures

The 5Vsb front-end circuit uses a separate PWM IC LD7750 driving one mosfet 04N60H

SF600 SFX’s printed circuit board neatly arranged, with no excess welds. This makes us think of the motherboard.

SF600 SFX Test

SF600 SFX completes the load level. Performance is maintained at around 90% on the 80Plus Gold standard. The 12V line ranges from 0.08V ~ 0.6%. 2 line 5V and 3.3V are respectively 0.059V ~ 1.2% and 0.058V ~ 1.7% are very good numbers.

SF600 SFX has good ripple & noise. The largest 12V line reaches 35mV at 20% load and gradually decreases to about 29mV at 100% load, the remaining lines fluctuate below 20mV.

Hold up time of SF600 SFX reaches 15.2mS lower than standard 0.8mS.

The 12V line fell from the safe zone after 17.8mS

Ambient temperature: 35oC

The SFX SF600 features a 92mm Rifle brearing fan that speeds up to 3500RPM for quick cooling of the underpowered components. The SFX is equipped with SemiFanless and temperature monitoring. The PSU only activates the cooling fan when the temperature inside the PSU rises above 45 degrees Celsius.

Conclude

Corsair SFX SF600 has good quality components. Small voltage fluctuations. High efficiency of 90%. The compact size and 600-watt capacity will be almost surplus for MiniPC configurations in the near future.
