The cause and how to fix it
There are many causes of slow computer reception of print jobs, but the most common include:
Driver is incorrect
Installing the wrong driver or the wrong model will cause the machine to generate errors or lack functions during use, and more dangerously, it can cause damage to the machine (usually occurs with color inkjet printers). The printer’s slow reception of print jobs is also a problem that can be caused by incorrectly installing the driver.
Solution: First, delete the old driver, restart the computer, and reinstall the new driver for the printer. Please download the driver from the home page and the correct model of the device with the operating system you are using. There are many printer codes with different “suffixes”, please write down this complete suffix to find and download the correct model.
The connection cable is loose or damaged
Always make sure that the connection cable you are using is fully plugged in at both ends of the printer and computer. In cases where the connection cable is damaged, defective, broken, or crushed by a heavy object, signal transmission between the computer and printer is slow or impossible.
Solution: Try again with another USB port on the device, avoid the USB port you are using being faulty or damaged, or try again with a new connection cable. Limit the use of connection cables that are too long or have multiple transfer port wires.
Due to network connection (for printer connection via LAN or WIFI)
Similar to the problem arising from the connection cable, the network connection also directly affects the speed of signal transmission and print command reception between the printer and computer.
For printers connected via network lines, there will be more than one issue to check.
Network connection of the printer: First, the LAN/wifi network connection must be guaranteed, the network cable must not be crushed, broken, or rusted. For printers connected to wifi, do not leave the printer too far from the device. Wifi is detected causing the connection to be unstable.
Synchronization of network connection: Make sure that your computer and printer are using the same modem/network connection, it is best to use the same Router to avoid having the network divided across multiple routers, affecting connection as well as transmission speed.
Network connection speed: Caused by network connection, data transmission speed is reduced between devices.
Network devices: Devices will also affect the network connection between the printer and computer. Some Modems/Routers/Switches are faulty, causing the connection to transmit data signals to flicker and not connect.
Hardware error on the printer
Printers, like other electronic technology devices, use electronic circuit boards and chips to receive print commands from the computer and process them. Parts of the printer may develop errors during use due to impacts such as strong impact, long-term use in a humid environment, short circuits, etc. The above errors can cause your printer to fail. Meets parameters such as slow initial printing, paper jams, and no printing.
How to handle: In this case, we advise you not to handle it yourself at home, this may cause more serious damage to the printer. Please bring it to a warranty center so that skilled experts/technicians can handle it for you.
The printer has too many print jobs
You may be pressing too many print commands and pressing them continuously, which will cause the machine’s printing speed to slow down, and also cause errors when the machine receives commands and processes files.
How to handle: If the number of files to print is too much, you can press print commands one after another so that the machine can perform the job for each file one by one. For machines that have too many print jobs, check the print jobs on the machine, delete them all, and try again.
How to check the print job on the printer: Control PanelHardware and SoundDevices and Printers -> Right-click on the printer and select the line See what’s printing -> A text box appears, which will display the status and print jobs available on the machine, you can optionally delete or stop the print jobs.
Heavy print file
One of the most common reasons why your printer prints slowly is that the print file is too heavy, so the machine takes a long time to process. Some printed files related to a professional nature such as construction drawings or design and architectural files can take up thousands of GB.
How to handle: When there are files like this, if possible, split them into small files and then print each file in turn.
Weak computer configuration or virus infection
Normally, after a period of use, a computer will contain a lot of data, including junk data, which over time can slow down the computer, leading to a delay in processing and transmitting print signals.
Computer viruses can make your computer unable to connect to the printer, causing conditions such as slow printing, printing a few copies, and then stopping for a long time before printing again.
Solution: You can fix the above situation by installing more RAM or upgrading computer memory to improve the computer’s performance, as well as reinstalling new computer software installing some anti-virus software, and cleaning the machine again.
The condition of a slow printer is no longer strange, however, those who are new to using printers may not know how to handle it and feel very confused when encountering the above situation. Hope it can be of help to you.
