Design

In terms of design, the PXC550 is a pair of headphones with the Oval key claspered diagonally forward to hold the ears. Outside the right track has a large touch surface for headset control, the left has an NFC module for one touch connection. The ear muffs are thick, soft leather so high quality should wear soft, comfortable, tight and soundproof very well.

The product is made mostly of plastic, but the main frame, couplings and Sennheiser logo are solid metal. At the bottom of the right ear is the active noise level adjustment, Equalizer, microUSB charging slot and signal port. The PXC550 is a Bluetooth headset, but if you want it, you can still use it with a wire. In general, the PXC550 is designed with subtle colors and simple styling, but is geared towards comfort, comfort and good sound insulation.

Practical experience

Comfortability

One of the strengths of the PXC550 is its ease of use. The tip pad is made of very thick and smooth sock, which does not create any sense of entanglement or pain in the contact areas when worn for a long time. Just like other Sennheiser headphones, the PXC550 feels like it’s firmly clamped to the sides of the ear, but after a while, the speakers will get used up and the cushions will soften as well.

Soundproofing capability

Apart from its sturdily-clamped elastic cradle and thicker ear cushions for passive acoustics, the PXC550 is also equipped with the NoiseGard Active Noise Protection feature. Through the microphone, the headset will measure the background noise and then emit the same frequency but reverse the phase to eliminate them. There are two levels of sound insulation by means of a button on the head. The noise resistance of the PXC550 is very good, even in the hottest places. But there is a slight downside: when active noise is turned on without playing music, the headset will still produce reflections, which makes it feel a bit overwhelming.

Support software

Comes with a headset is a support software on the phone called Captune. In addition to the ability to play music, this application also allows customization of headphones according to preferences Equalizer, On / Off NoiseGard, battery capacity, call mode on / off. This application can automatically identify the connected Sennheiser headset and apply the appropriate settings. Generally, Captune is quite useful, but finding music on Android is a little confusing compared to the default app.

Intelligent control system

This is the difference of the PXC550 compared to the market in both headphones and Sennheiser products. There is no On / Off switch on the pair, instead, to turn the power on and off, just turn the wires out and fold. Each time the headset is powered on, information on the connection status is provided.

The touch pad on the right ear replaces all keys and buttons, press once to play or pause, swipe forward / backward for transfer, scroll up / down to adjust volume, press twice to receive audio. Environment (very convenient to talk to others without removing earphones). This gesture-control system is useful, not only smooth on phones and tablets, but also on computers using the Foobar2000 application. There is also an unreasonable point is that the volume of the PXC550 is only 10 steps so the volume control to adjust the volume / speed too fast, not accurate by adjusting volume on the source.

Feel the sound quality

Sennheiser equipped the PXC550 Bluetooth standard aptX to enhance the detail of the audio signal compared to previous SBC standards. When connected to a laptop, the PXC550 sounded a bit poorer than a smartphone. So to get the most out of your device, use a Mee Connect transmitter to connect your computer and headphones. The practical experience shows that the PXC550 represents a modern, healthy sound in the general style of Sennheiser headphones recently released.

Not heavy, slow and lyrical as in the traditional Sennheiser HD650 or Sennheiser HD600 headphones, the PXC550 is designed to play the bassline more neatly. The PXC550 represents the bass strips in modest amounts, even slightly to the heavyweight V-shape audiophile on most current headsets. Drum beats are played quite fast, do not pull the tail and leave many resonances. The subwoofer comes down, but it can not be said to be deep in comparison with other Sennheiser headphones. The advantage of this subwoofer is that it completely avoids bass-bleed – the overwhelming band overwhelms other frequencies. Most of the bass are concentrated in the mid bass strings, which are punchy but fairly neat and interrupting. The whole feel that Sennheiser has put the PXC550 in multitasking orientation, not focus on a certain stream of music. The PXC550 is neat, clean, faster, and can accommodate a wider variety of genres.

Like the current headphones, especially the 630VB, the Sennheiser has made great changes in the midrange range. Singer voice is not as thick and dark as before but thinner and brighter pretty much. One advantage is that the vocalist, whether male or female, has a clearer, more distinct feeling. Not exactly the detail of the PXC550 “overtakes” the older, simply cleaner, more advanced and more impressive. In return, the tones are cooler. Male voices like Leonard Cohen in Hallelujah lose a little bit of hoarseness, less old. New, taller and younger voices like Adam Levine and Charlie Puth are not affected much. With its mid-to high-pitched vocals, the PXC550 performs brighter, more colorful and dynamic, not too lyrical. The midrange of the headphones is high, but there are no peak points to avoid sibalance. The PXC550 will fit in a bright female voice, or modern pop, and with lyrical music that needs smoothness, sweetness, these headphones are just as good.

The most striking feature of this pair of earphones is the high part, which is a strange thing when previous handsets, except the Sennheiser HD800 and Sennheiser HD800s, Sennheiser does not often hit the high strips. The high pitch of the PXC550 is quite good, which makes the overall sound slightly brighter than the Momentum 2.0. These tones are spread evenly in space instead of in one spot, creating an impression of speed and energy. The highest points are lightened, trimmed to avoid hissing. In general, those who prefer a slightly louder and slightly taller will not be disappointed with the PXC550.

In short, the PXC550 possesses a completely new sound, not borrowed from its predecessor products. This is a fairly balanced sound from bass to high, but in a more modern and energetic direction than the traditional, slow, warm and natural Sennheiser. With this style, the PXC550 is a multitasking product that satisfies many genres of music, preferably with the Pop or EDM line in general.

Experience watching movies

One of the reasons that Bluetooth headset is inferior to traditional wired headset is latency. Bluetooth headsets that use old connection technology often have a high latency, causing audio in the movie to be half a second slower than the picture. The PXC550 uses the new aptX standard, so when used with standard devices, the latency is greatly reduced. With the Mee Connect transmitter and the latest aptX Low Latency movie recording, the delay is only about 30ms, enough to enjoy the movie perfectly.

Mee Connect and PXC550 are the perfect pair to watch movies, photos and sound always match, the sound insulation of the headphones keeps the noise out and the sound does not come out to disturb the people around. In terms of sound quality, the PXC550 is quite neutral, so the sound from the film is less distorted, clear tones, the headset can be used in many genres. With the action movie, the PXC550 is not quite as powerful as the bass to create vibrancy, blast or powerful gunfire, but so the viewer gets tired, watching movies longer. A slight weakness on the PXC550 and close-type headphones is that the sound field in the film can not be with open earphones.

Summary

The Sennheiser PXC550 is a high-end wireless earpiece that directly matches the Sony 1000X from Japan. After years of being outdated, Sennheiser has been able to launch a pair of headphones with the latest technology, on a par with Sony, which is always pioneering technology and products. For those who love to listen to music at home and looking for the warmth of the Sennheiser, the HD650, HD600 and HD599 series are still good options. But for the user often to move, want to bring music everywhere, the PXC550 is worth a try.
