amazon AMD Radeon R9 series reviews
Support for 4K resolution, AMD True Audio audio technology, Mantle programming interface and attractive performance/cost ratio, AMD’s new GPU generation promises gamers the same experience as the environment more realistic.
Design
All three cards with the latest Radeon R9 series graphics processing unit (GPU) have been introduced by AMD at the ’14 Tech Day 2013 GPU not long ago. Asus R9280X-DC2T-3GD5 and Gigabyte GV-R928XOC-3GD (Gigabyte R928XOC) with GPU R9 280X and reference card AMD Radeon R9 270X with R9 270X GPU.
AMD Radeon R9 270X: Unlike the Radeon R9 290 and Radeon R9 290X, the R9 270X is a remake of the Radeon HD 7870 with higher clock GPU and RAM to compete directly with nVidia’s GeForce GTX 760. The new R9 270X GPU supports the Mantle programming interface, AMD True Audio audio technology, and DirectX 11.2 graphics library built into Windows 8.1.
The R9 270X GPU has 16 compute units with a total of 1280 stream processing units, 80 texture units and 32 Color ROP unit. According to AMD, the R9 270X standard clock speed is 1,000 MHz and can accelerate to 1,050 MHz, 2 GB of GDDR5 memory, 1400 MHz of memory and 256 bit of memory bandwidth.
The Asus R9280X-DC2T-3GD5 is a graphics card manufacturer has overclocked the GPU clock operating at 1075 MHz and memory clock frequency up to 1600 MHz; Higher 7.5% and 6.67% respectively than the standard AMD announced. DirectCU II heatsink with 10mm heatpipe duo and 2x100mm cooling fans, in which the main fan uses CoolTech technology for good performance while not causing noise during operation. According to Asus, the new DirectCU II heatsink will reduce the GPU temperature by about 20% and reduce noise by about 3 times the standard heatsink.
Gigabyte GV-R928XOC-3GD: Same as the Asus R9280X, the Gigabyte GV-R928XOC-3GD (Gigabyte R928XOC) is also the overclockable Gigabyte version. The Triangle Cool Cooling Technology incorporates a large 100 mm cooling fan to ensure efficient heat dissipation and smooth operation.
Experimental shows that the Gigabyte R928XOC performance is slightly lower than the Asus R9280X in most performance ratings. This is easy to understand because this graphics card is only Gigabyte GPU clocking up to 1100 MHz while keeping the memory.
Technology, support features
Basically, the new generation of GPUs still use the Graphics Core Next (GCN) graphics architecture, which is capable of multi-threaded processing and better utilization of graphics processing power with multiple pipelines at the same time without compromising value. Including overall performance. The application of 28nm manufacturing technology reduces the distance between transistor connections, so that new GPUs are faster to process, consume less power and cool down in operation.
The new Radeon Rx 200 series GPUs from previous generations provide support for the Mantle programming interface, which simplifies the game development process by leveraging the shared resources of the Graphics Core Next architecture between the two platforms. PC and game consoles. Thanks to that, the programmers will not spend much time, effort to optimize the game running on these two platforms.
The Rx 200 series GPU also supports AMD True Audio technology. Game developers can program audio based on the GPU’s processing power, producing live sound effects that resemble more realistic environments, giving gamers an entirely new experience.
In addition to the Mantle programming interface, experimental graphics cards still support two familiar graphics libraries, DirectX 11.2 and OpenGL 4.3, as well as optimized multi-threading, anti-aliasing 24 samples and surface pattern filter 16 samples, Enhanced Quality Anti-Aliasing (EQAA) and Morphological Anti-Aliasing (MLAA) enhance the image antialiasing quality during post-construction and post-construction to provide users with most “Sharp”.
AMD HD3D technology meets the needs of 3D movie playback, AMD Eyefinity technology allows the output of three video monitors at the same time via DVI, HDMI 1.4a and DisplayPort to display high resolution images. Up to 4096×2160 pixels (4K Support) when playing games, slideshows or working with multiple applications at the same time. AMD PowerPlay and ZeroCore Power smart power management technologies reduce power consumption in idle state.
The Radeon Rx 200 series GPU also includes AMD PowerTune technology, which dynamically adjusts the TDP (power consumption) value to boost the GPU clock to a higher level, delivering the highest performance in graphics applications. Specialized or games are dubbed “hardware assassins”.

Performance
To assess the power of three graphics cards, Test Lab uses a test configuration built on the Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 motherboard platform, Windows 8 Pro operating system and Catalyst 13.152 driver. In addition to the overall performance benchmarking tools 3DMark 11 and Heaven DX11 Benchmark 4.0, Test Lab also uses some DirectX 11 games such as DiRT 3, Alien Vs. Predator and Resident Evil 6 test the graphics performance of the graphics card at 1280×720 pixels (HD 720p) and 1920×1080 pixels (full HD).
Overall, the scores achieved by the Asus R9280X-DC2T-3GD5 and Gigabyte GV-R928XOC-3GD4 were slight but marginally significant as the two designs were based on the Radeon R9 280X GPU. However, the Asus R9280X has the advantage of memory pacing, which is slightly better than the Gigabyte R928XOC, especially in the “heavyweight” tests at 1920×1080 pixel resolution.
The AMD Radeon R9 270X also easily conveys Test Lab scenarios built in 720p HD resolution. However, at full HD resolution, the graphics processing power of the card dropped dramatically as the R9 270X GPU structure removed some of the component parts for a competitive price that suited the majority of users. .
For the test games DiRT 3, Alien vs. Predator 1.03 and Crysis 2, all three graphics cards are also good, the ability to process images in the game reaches 30 fps (full frame) in full HD resolution with graphics quality. Pushed to the highest level. For example, with Alien Vs Predator, AMD Radeon R9 270X 54.1 fps and highest is the Asus R9280X with 80.8 fps. Similarly, when pushing the graphics quality in Resident Evil 6 to the highest level, test card samples still show strength through the number of processing frames and no lag occur during the process experiment.
Temperature, power consumption
Test the graphics card thermal capabilities and power consumption of the test configuration (not including the monitor) through 3DMark graphics tests, temperature and system capacity recorded through GPU-z software and Logger Lite in normal environment (about 30 – 31 degrees Celsius).
On idle mode, the graphics card runs quietly, GPU temperature difference is negligible, of which the lowest is the Asus R9280X with 34 degrees Celsius and the power consumption of the test configuration is 83.7 W respectively (Measured in average). The Gigabyte R928XOC has the highest GPU temperature (38 degrees Celsius) while the test configuration power is 90 W.
In the 3DMark 11 graphics test, the Asus R9280X and Gigabyte R928XOC utilize a unique heat dissipation technology that has proven to be effective, quiet running fans, GPU temperatures only fluctuate between 70 and 71 degrees Celsius and The power consumption of the test configuration is 367.7 W and 347.1 W respectively (highest value).
Meanwhile, the AMD Radeon R9 270X still uses a traditional, closed-box heatsink, squirrel-cage cooler to push out hot air through the expansion slots on the back of the case. The fan works quietly, although the heat dissipation is not as good as the two graphics cards, but GPU temperature is still acceptable (81 degrees Celsius).
